Tough to go through injury - Man City's Layzell
Manchester City defender Naomi Layzell was on course for the perfect evening when she scored a goal and assisted another on her Women's Champions League debut, helping her side stun defending champions Barcelona. But 20-year-old Layzell, who had not scored a goal in her career prior to that night in October, was forced off with an injury right at the end of the match. She is back fit again now and on international duty with the England Under-23 team, hoping to regain the form she had shown prior to her injury."Straight afterwards, I didn't know what the injury was and I was so happy with the performance," said Layzell."But when I had a few setbacks with my injury afterwards it was tough to go through that. I expected to come back a lot earlier and it just kept being put back."That was really frustrating. You can never really predict when injuries will come. I was hoping to build some momentum."I've been fortunate with injuries mainly in my career. It's the first injury that's been more difficult in that sense. I had moved clubs so it was a lot to tackle at once."

Kyle Walker agrees to join Premier League club ahead of Man City exit
Kyle Walker has agreed to join Everton after being put up for sale by Manchester City. The 35-year-old has been one of the best right-backs in the world over the past decade, lifting six Premier League trophies at the Etihad Stadium. Walker was also a key member of the team that secured Man City's first Champions League trophy in 2023. The England star made at least 30 appearances for seven seasons in a row before being frozen out by Pep Guardiola last term. Man City loaned Walker out to AC Milan following a disappointing first-half of the season and are now ready to sell the veteran. AC Milan were initially interested in making Walker's stay permanent but the Serie A giants have now decided to end their interest. But it has now taken long for Walker to find a new club, with the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 starter agreeing a one-year deal with Everton, according to The Sun. Fulham also expressed interest in signing Walker but it is claimed Everton have won the race and are now in talks with Man City to discuss whether it will be a permanent move or a 12-month loan. Walker made over 300 appearances for Manchester City following his £50m move from Tottenham in 2017. He has been England's first-choice right-back for around a decade, amassing 96 caps for the Three Lions. More Trending New England boss Thomas Tuchel has continued to show faith in Walker since his appointment but the ex-Spurs star struggled during the recent friendly defeat to Senegal. Walker is desperate to hit 100 England caps and wants to be involved in next summer's World Cup in the United States. And he is said to believe a move to Everton and a full season of regular football under David Moyes will give him a superb chance of featuring for the Three Lions. Kyle Walker agrees sensational switch to Everton after starting talks on return from Italy with Man City career over
KYLE WALKER has agreed to join Everton on a one-year deal. The England right-back has been locked in talks with Toffees chiefs since his return from his loan spell at AC Milan. 5 5 Everton and current club Manchester City will now thrash out whether it is a permanent deal or just a 12-month loan while he sees out the remainder of his Etihad contract. Fulham also enquired about the 35-year-old but could not afford his package. Walker has jetted out to New York for a whistlestop tour of the Big Apple before heading to Jamaica for a two-week holiday. The 35-year-old won 17 major honours - including six Prem titles - during a glittering eight years at City. And despite having a year left on his Etihad deal, he was axed from their Club World Cup squad and no longer features in Pep Guardiola's plans. A source said: "Kyle has been a wonderful servant to the club. "He has given everything and was key to the success. "But after the disappointment of last season the club has to rebuild." JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS It will bring to an end a love affair with City which began following a £50million move from Spurs in 2017. Jack Grealish has gone from eye-catching showman and heartthrob to miserable bench warmer - and I know who's to blame His trophy haul included six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League. But in January he told City he wanted to explore the option of playing abroad and weeks later signed a six-month loan deal with AC Milan. The Serie A giants were given the option of extending it or making the move permanent but declined. Milan finished a disappointing eighth last season and, like City, are planning a major summer rebuild. Walker won his 96th England cap in the dismal 3-1 defeat to Senegal but is desperate to reach a century. Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel has made it clear his players must be playing regular, high-level football in order to be picked. And Walker is confident Everton under David Moyes is the perfect place to do that. 5 5 5

Chelsea vs Los Angeles FC: Liam Delap could make debut from bench
Enzo Maresca is convinced that Chelsea's new centre-forward Liam Delap will succeed Harry Kane and become England's 'number nine'. Ahead of Chelsea's first group game in the Club World Cup, against Los Angeles FC, there is much anticipation as to whether Delap will be given his debut. And the new £30 million signing – who has joined up with Chelsea rather than play for England as they aim to retain the Under-21 European Championship title – is indeed expected to feature against the MLS side. Maresca refused to confirm this but talked enthusiastically about how much potential he feels the former Ipswich Town striker – who he coached when they were together at Manchester City, working with the Under-23s – has. 'Before we faced Ipswich - so Liam was not a Chelsea player - I said that for me, Liam, potentially he can be England number nine. So, he was not even with us,' Maresca said. 'And, for sure, now that he's with us, I'm going to say again that I don't have any doubt that he can be in the future England number nine.' Chelsea beat off competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United and Everton to activate the release clause and sign the 22-year-old on a six-year deal with Maresca insisting he had not given any assurances that he will play over Nicolas Jackson. 'I never say to a player you want to be a first-choice,' he said. 'The message is always the same: 'you arrive, you work hard, you work more than the other number nine and you want to be a number nine first-choice'. So, the conversation with Liam has been quite clear. He was keen to join us because he knows the way we play, the season that we were together. 'He scored 24 goals. So, he knows exactly what we can give him and I know what Liam can give us. I think it's a win/win and the conversation was quite an easy conversation. We like Liam; Liam likes us.' Delap will wear the No 9 shirt, which has been vacant since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left Chelsea almost two years ago. It has proved to be something of a curse for a series of forwards at the club including Aubameyang, Mateja Kezman, Hernan Crespo, Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku. It is a long list but it is also a sign of Delap's confidence that he has, nevertheless, still readily taken it. 'Liam knows quite well how important the No 9 shirt is for this club. I don't see any problem about that,' Maresca said. 'I see Liam quite relaxed, easy, he's doing well, since he arrived he's working well. We know each other already from years ago. So I know what Liam can give us, he knows what we can give to him to improve and to become a better player. And, again, in terms of number nine, hopefully he can score goals for us.'
