The Legion of Merit is awarded to civilians who have shown exemplary performance in service to others, according to a statement issued by Jan Care.
Bruce Price, who received the award, has worked as an EMT for 43 years.
He has assisted over 38,000 patients.
Price told 59News he was overwhelmed by the award.
'I cannot express my gratitude to the Cornett family and Jan Care. Because it was the Cornett's, particularly Rick Cornett, who gave me an opportunity to be a paramedic. Jan Care gave me my career. I'll never work for anybody else,' said Price.
Price said it is an honor to be recognized for his service to the community, but that he was only doing what he loves and what he knew was right.

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung ‘dismayed' at $52k bid to rent Tampines HDB clinic; S'pore woman names daughter after Sun Xueling: Singapore live news

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung is "dismayed" at the $52,188 monthly rental bid for a general practitioner (GP) clinic in a Tampines HDB estate as "this must translate to higher cost of healthcare one way or another." I-Health Medical's unusually high bid to operate the 52 sq m ground-floor unit at Block 954C Tampines Street 96 continues to draw attention but a co-owner for the company insists they will not raise prices to compensate for their rental costs. Health Minister Ong said that going forward, bids for future HDB GP clinics will be assessed using a Price-Quality evaluation Model (PQM) that focuses less on price, and more on quality of care. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has expressed his dismay at the $52,188 monthly rental bid for a general practitioner (GP) clinic in a Tampines HDB estate as "this must translate to higher cost of healthcare one way or another." The health minister made the comment in a Facebook post on 4 June after media reports of I-Health Medical's unusually high tender bid to operate the 52 sq m ground-floor unit at Block 954C Tampines Street 96. Earlier this week, a co-owner for the healthcare firm, Andrew Chim had explained the unit's location near several Build-To-Order projects as well as the surrounding competition justified the high rental amount. Chim, in the same interview with the Straits Times, also said the company would not increase their prices. "Rent is not commensurate with [consultation] fee," Chim said in a separate interview with CNA. "I can assure you that the total bill for different cases will be in range for other heartland clinics." HDB has also moved to assure the public that the rental for this Tampines clinic "does not set any price requirements for future tenders by HDB, and it also will not affect the rentals that HDB is charging other existing clinics." I-Health Medical tendered for the Tampines unit in December 2024 and won it in March. This was before the Ministry of Health (MOH) and HDB had launched a new tender approach for GP clinics at Bartley Beacon last month. Health Minister Ong said that going forward, bids for future HDB GP clinics will be assessed using a Price-Quality evaluation Model (PQM) that focuses less on price, and more on quality of care. "Quality of care will account for 70% of the tender evaluation, and rental 30%," he said. "We will make the new PQM approach the norm, when tendering our GP clinics in our HDB heartlands," Ong said. Drug overdose deaths down 25% in Washtenaw County, health officials say

Overdose deaths in Washtenaw County dropped dramatically, according to a new report from the Washtenaw County Health Department. The department found deaths from drug overdoses dropped 25% between 2023 and 2024. This report comes as Washtenaw County also reaches a nine-year low in opioid related overdose deaths, a huge turnaround in a trend that was increasing every year between 2019 and 2022. Experts are thanking the accessibility of emergency treatments like naloxone. They're giving them away for free at the Washtenaw Health Department, as you can't put a price on saving someone's life. They say it's a big reason why total overdose deaths went down from 88 in 2023 to 66 in 2024. "We're really attributing the decrease to a lot more resources being available in our county. We have the naloxone kits pretty widely available in the county, including here at Towner. We have a vending machine where free naloxone can be taken," said WCHD health promotion coordinator Deanna Price. While 42 is the fewest number of opioid related overdose deaths for the county in the past nine years, nearly all of them still involved fentanyl in 2024 (93%), just like in 2023 (95%). Price says fentanyl testing strips are also free at the health department and can easily save someone from making a fatal mistake. "So the goal is really making it as accessible as possible, where people can easily grab these kits and then have them when they're using. Knowing that you can test these things before using may be making using a bit safer," Price said. With $16 million in opioid settlement funds over the next 18 years, the health department is already reviewing grant proposals from local organizations that also want to see overdose numbers continue to drop. "We've had several organizations apply for this RFP and they'll be scored. Then we hope to have the final award recipients sometime this summer," Price said. The Washtenaw Health Department created a list of locations you can pick up free Narcan (brand name naloxone) and fentanyl testing strips, while also compiling a checklist of how to decrease your risk of an overdose if you're using: • Test drugs using fentanyl test strips • Avoid using alone and take turns when using with others • Take care if you have not used in a while • Avoid mixing drugs, including alcohol • Have naloxone ready and know how to use it

Raleigh County Sheriff's Office awarded grant to increase number of DUI checkpoints

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The Raleigh County Sheriff's Office is cracking down on drunk awarded grant funding will allow for the sheriff's office to expand its resources to identify drivers who get behind the wheel after too many drinks. A recent meeting of the Raleigh County Commission saw funds secured for the department to conduct a greater number of DUI checkpoints throughout the county. Sheriff's office members said drivers should think twice before operating a vehicle under the influence.'You don't want to be in that position where you caused a fatality because you have to live with that your whole life,' says Corporal Eikost of the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office. 'It's very important for you to have public safety at your main focus when you're driving.' $15,000 in grant funding approved by the Raleigh County Commission was awarded during a Raleigh County Commission meeting on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 to allow for more frequent roadside checkpoints from the sheriff's office, which are expected to be conducted in the area over the next several months.
