Anne Frank exhibit in Fort Scott celebrates her life and legacy
FORT SCOTT, Kan. — One of the most famous voices of the Holocaust makes a stop in Fort Scott this month.
The Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes presents 'Anne Frank: A History for Today' — thanks to the efforts of 2021 Lowell Milken Center Fellow and Anne Frank Center Program Coordinator, Megan Helbert.
The 31-panel exhibit features never-before-seen photos of Anne's life, quotes from the people who knew her, and visuals of the house where she and her family hid from the Nazis.Artifacts from the Holocaust and World War 2 are also on display, contributed by staff member Ronda Hassig.
The exhibit will stay in Fort Scott through June 26th. June 12th would have been Anne Frank's 99th birthday.
'We are celebrating her life and her remembrance, and the importance of sharing stories. Anne was able to do that, Anne Frank was able to do that with her diary, and we're so thankful we have her story. Here at the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes we know the value of stories, and how they can inspire others to step up and make a difference,' said Megan Felt, Lowell Milken Center Program Director.
Admission to the Anne Frank exhibit is free. The Lowell Milken Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 5, and Saturday from 10 to 4.

Fourth of July fireworks return to East River this year
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Macy's Fourth of July fireworks will return to the East River this summer. The fireworks will be launched from the Brooklyn Bridge and four surrounding barges in the East River, Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday. More Local News 'This year's Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show, set against the city skyline and on the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, is set to deliver an unforgettable night,' said Will Coss, executive director of the fireworks show. The city will announce information about public viewing locations and tickets in the coming weeks. Last year, the city gave out 10,000 free tickets to view the show on Piers 84 and 45, which sold out in under an hour. The fireworks can be seen from any spot with an unobstructed view of the lower East River, according to organizers. Jessie J reveals ‘early' breast cancer diagnosis
Jessie J revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The singer revealed the diagnosis to her 13.9 million Instagram followers on Tuesday night after 'going back and forth a little bit' on whether she should share it or not. However, the 37-year-old wanted to share it with her fans and the people who care about her. 'Before 'No Secrets' came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer,' she explained. 'I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form but I'm holding on to the word early.' Jessie's latest album, 'No Secrets,' was released on May 16, her first album in four years. For the past few months, she's been 'in and out of tests' and she wanted to be open and share her health update because she doesn't 'talk about it enough,' and that she's been working so hard that she hasn't processed it herself. 'I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories,' she continued. 'I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse, that's the bit that kills me.' The 'Domino' singer did attempt to make light of the whole ordeal. 'I'm getting to keep my nipples. That's good,' she said lightly. 'It's a weird topic and a weird situation.' She found it ironic that she was releasing a song called 'No Secrets' and 'Living My Best Life,' both of which were planned before she found out about her diagnosis. Before ending her video, she was able to crack a joke. 'I mean, you can't make it up. It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job,' she said. 'I am going to disappear for a bit after summertime ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t-ts and more music.' Many of Jessie's celebrity friends offered words of support in the post's comment section. 'Love you! We all are sending healing energy to youuu… excited for the massive t-ts and more music,' wrote Katy Perry. 'You're literally my favourite person, and I'm praying for you,' wrote Rita Ora. Vance jokingly pushes back on ‘intellectual' label: ‘You insult me'
Vice President Vance on Tuesday jokingly rejected the 'intellectual' label during a live interview at an event hosted by conservative think tank American Compass. The group's founder, Oren Cass, welcomed the vice president to the stage, saying he's 'thrilled' to talk to Vance and is 'in awe' of much of the work he's doing 'because there are politicians out there who are — they've just been politicians.' 'But you are someone who was an intellectual first,' Cass continued. 'Some people don't like the word 'intellectual.' But I mean it in the good sense of the term. You were writing for National Review. You were at the bar late at night arguing about and helping shape these ideas that you are now–' Vance laughed and cut in: 'I come here for free, and you insult me, and you call me 'an intellectual,' remind me that I wrote for National Review.' 'What an a–hole this guy is,' President Trump's No. 2 added, to audience laughter and applause. 'That's fair,' Cass said, noting that, 'I will admit that I, too, wrote for National Review.'
