WTC Final 2025, SA vs AUS Live Updates: Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins are set to lead their bowling attacks in the WTC final.
WTC Final 2025, SA vs AUS Live Updates: The ICC Test mace is once again back up for grabs, and it is a contest between two historic rivals at the home of cricket that will decide where the mace and the World Test Championship will go. Is it set to return to Australia, a land of serial winners, defending champions and a juggernaut of cricket year after year after year? Or, in a year across sports that has been one for the bridesmaids to finally have their moment, to shed disappointments of the past and take the mantle for themselves, will South Africa finally rid themselves of their long trophy curse and finally manage to get one over the line to lift the WTC title? ...Read More
It will all come down to how these two teams perform at Lord's, which will host the WTC final, a historic venue for what could prove to be a historic moment. Pat Cummins and Temba Bavuma have marshalled terrific performances over the last 24 months to earn this spot in the title match for their teams, undoubtedly the most consistent teams in Test cricket over this previous cycle. South Africa and Australia are both blessed with spades of talent right across the team, and neither will mind playing at Lord's, where their bowlers will be a constant threat but the attacking batters will find value for good performances.
Both teams have already announced their playing XIs, and there are no major surprises: Australia will welcome back Cam Green, a massive boost both to their batting, and especially to their bowling, which can now supplement their three incredible lead seamers with the hard-hitting pace and bounce of Green and Beau Webster. It's an embarrassment of riches for the Aussies as they attempt to hold on to the mace, and it will need South Africa to be focused and committed through every single passage of play in this Test match to hold off a relentless opposition. It is just what Test cricket should be.
Despite the quality Australia possess, South Africa won't be intimidated. They have had a terrific WTC campaign, winning four consecutive series, and seven out of eight Tests they have played in that span. Their sole series loss in this cycle came against New Zealand, when they sent a much-changed team to play against the Kiwis: for their core group, the players who will be on show this week, winning has become a habit, and that provides the sort of momentum that can prove difficult to overturn.
Day one will be crucial for both teams: as the understanding goes, a Test can't be won on day one, but it can certainly be lost. It's a long match where plenty will happen. But this is the day that will decide the momentum.

The Australian skipper claimed six wickets, dismissing Wiaan Mulder, Temba Bavuma, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, and Kagiso Rabada, to register the best bowling figures by a captain at the venue. "It's great, and I've got some family here which is nice," Cummins told broadcasters at the innings break. "They were batting pretty well so happy we've got a decent lead this first innings. Australian skipper Pat Cummins delivered a bowling masterclass on Day 2 of the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord's, shattering a 43-year-old record and etching his name among the legends of the game. Historic Figures at the Home of Cricket Cummins recorded 6/28, the best-ever bowling figures by a captain at Lord's, surpassing the long-standing mark of 5 wickets set by England's Bob Willis against India in 1982. In a destructive spell, the Australian captain dismissed: Wiaan Mulder, Temba Bavuma, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada This stunning effort dismantled South Africa for just 138 runs, giving Australia a first-innings lead of 74 and firmly turning the match in their favour. 300 Test Wickets Milestone Alongside this iconic Lord's performance, Cummins also reached another major personal landmark, 300 Test wickets, becoming only the sixth Australian fast bowler to do so, joining an elite club that includes: Glenn McGrath Mitchell Johnson Brett Lee Dennis Lillee Jason Gillespie His achievement came in just 67 Tests, underlining his impact and consistency since debuting in 2011. Dominant Day 2: Turns the Tide Earlier, Australia were bowled out for 212, with South Africa's Kagiso Rabada (5/51) and Marco Jansen (2/49) keeping them under pressure. However, Cummins' fiery spell, supported by Starc and Hazlewood, turned the tables quickly. The Proteas were reduced from 34/1 to 138 all out in less than a session and a half. WTC Legacy Grows This performance not only keeps Australia in command of the WTC Final but also cements Cummins' growing stature in red-ball cricket. With 73 wickets across 17 matches in the current World Test Championship cycle, he trails only Nathan Lyon among Australians and continues to lead by example.

Kagsio Rabada Becomes SA's 5th Highest Wicket-Taker In International Cricket
Last Updated: In 242 international matches played so far for South Africa, Kagiso Rabada has picked up 573 wickets, which is one more than Kallis' tally of 572 wickets. Kagiso Rabada is on fire with the ball for South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. In the one-off match taking place at Lord's in London against Australia, the 30-year-old fast bowler picked up five wickets for 51 runs in the first innings to help the Proteas bowl out the Baggy Greens for 212 runs on Wednesday (June 11), and on Thursday (June 12) he has dismissed two Aussie batters so far in the second innings to leave them struggling at 32 for 2. Rabada opened his wicket account in the second innings by removing Usman Khawaja. The left-handed batter was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne on the second ball of the 11th over for a score of six runs from 23 balls. In the first innings as well, Rabada removed Khawaja. After taking the premier left-handed batter's wicket, Rabada dismissed all-rounder Cameron Green for a two-ball duck on the fourth ball of the 11th over. Green was caught by Wiaan Mulder in the slips. The wicket of Green in the second innings helped Rabada extend his tally of wickets to 573 in international cricket, which is one more than legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis' tally of 572. Kallis played 513 international matches for South Africa across formats during his 19-year-long career and picked up 572 wickets, whereas in 242 matches (Tests, ODIs, and T20I combined), Rabada has accounted for the dismissal of 573 batters. The overall record of taking the most wickets for South Africa in international cricket is in the name of former captain and legendary all-rounder Shaun Pollock. In 414 matches, Pollock picked up 823 wickets for South Africa in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. He is followed by Dale Steyn (697), Makhaya Ntini (661), and Allan Donald (602). Rabada has 334 wickets to his name in 71 Tests, and in 106 ODIs played so far, he has dismissed 168 batters. In addition to that, the 30-year-old fast bowling great has picked up 71 wickets in 65 T20Is. During Australia's first innings, Rabada went past Donald's tally of 330 wickets to become South Africa's fourth most successful bowler in Test cricket. First Published: June 12, 2025, 20:34 IST
