Spalding to get animal sculpture trail in nod to farming heritage
Cattle sculptures celebrating a town's rich farming heritage will be unveiled this spring.Six sheep made from limestone, along with a bull and a cow made from red sandstone, will go on public display in Sheep Market and New Road in Spalding on 15 March.Spalding & District Civic Society (SDCS) said the sculptures will form part of The MARK-IT Trail.People can meet the sculptor, Graeme Mitcheson, from 11:00 GMT in Hall Place. There will also be live music, stalls and free art activities, said organisers.
Sir John Hayes, MP for South Holland and The Deepings, will unveil the sculptures.According to SDCS, Spalding's history is "intertwined with its weekly livestock markets, which once drew farmers and traders from across the region".John Bland, the group's chairman, added: "I am delighted to see the first animals in this, the most ambitious element of the society's long-running project come to fruition. "The sculptures are very special and will significantly add to what the town has to offer to attract people from outside the area to visit the town."

Two arrests and birds seized in Bradford in cockfighting probe
Two men have been arrested and several cockerels seized from six properties in Bradford in connection with an investigation into animal man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing an animal fight to take place and taking part in an animal fight, while another man was arrested on suspicion of being present at an animal fight, according to West Yorkshire RSPCA confirmed its officers had joined police as warrants were carried out at six addresses in Bradford and two addresses in Burton-upon-Trent and Warrington as part of the investigation.A "number" of cockerels were removed during those operations and placed into the care of the RSPCA, a spokesperson said.
