Far-right probation officer fights for his job after using sickening gestures at work

Daily Mail14-05-2025

An Oregon probation officer who was canned for repeatedly greeting his German coworker with the Nazi salute has been battling for reinstatement.
Shawn C. Sorensen, the lead probation officer for the Wasco County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), reportedly admitted to making the hateful gesture while shouting 'Mein Fuher' to another officer, Marco Beitl.
Beitl allegedly responded by placing his finger over his lips to mimic Adolf Hitler's mustache.
After multiple complaints and an internal investigation, both Sorensen and Beitl were fired by Sheriff Lane Magill last year.
Challenging the decision, Sorensen filed a grievance backed by the Federation of Oregon Parole and Probation Officers union.
And state arbitrator Dorothy C. Foley has ruled in his favor - demanding that the office must reinstate Sorensen.
The neutral third party decided Sorensen's behavior was inappropriate, but not blatantly biased.
But Magill has no plans of welcoming the officer back onto the WCSO team, calling out his inexcusable behavior as 'egregious and offensive.'
'We cannot tolerate a hostile work environment and will not allow antisemitic behavior at our office,' Magill told OregonLive.
'There is no excuse for this behavior...It goes to the professional standards of how we conduct ourselves in law enforcement...We are held to a higher standard.'
Sorenson owned up to his bizarre and unacceptable workplace behavior while speaking with external investigator James Ferraris.
'I've known Marco for going on 12 years and we've done that back and forth the entire time we've known each other,' Sorenson said.
'It was not uncommon,' he added, explaining he could recall at least a 20 instances of his jarring exchanges with Beitl.
He even noted he made no efforts to hide his salutes.
'It wasn't like I was going in the door, behind closed doors, and doing it,' he said, describing the historically hateful motion as nothing more than a lighthearted hello.
When Ferraris asked if anyone ever complained to him about the gesture, he responded: 'No, but it was wholly inappropriate.'
'Because even if Marco was participating in it, it could have offended somebody else,' he later elaborated.
'There might have been somebody with Jewish nationality. A Jewish person that would be very offended by that.
'I didn't think that there was, but in retrospect, even if he was participating, that was inappropriate on both of us.'
However, Beitl has denied any involvement in the Hitler-related gesturing.
'What they said I was doing, I didn't do,' he told Oregon Live. 'If you grow up in Germany, that is a crime, you don't do that.'
As noted in the investigation, Beitl had allegedly made a derogatory comment about his dog looking like a 'Jew.'
He claimed this detail was taken out of context, explaining he was saying 'It looks like he has a Jewish hat on,' referring to a kippah.
Ultimately, Beitl, who worked for Wasco County since 2012 and served 15 years as a police officer in Germany, chose not to fight for his job back, citing the expenses of hiring a lawyer.
He also said Beitl never expressed discomfort with their routine.
During arbitration on January 15, Sorensen said his encounters with Beitl were 'goofiness. They were banter,' OregonLive reported.
But county attorney Kyle Abraham was less than thrilled with Sorensen downplaying the significance of the salute.
'You mentioned that it was intended to be goofy and·banter. Was the Holocaust goofy?' he asked.
Sorensen, who started working for the Wasco County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) in 2011 after an Air Force career, asserted he has learned from his mistakes and wanted his job back.
'I'm a servant, and I found my calling at parole and probation. I am good at my job. I'm getting better. I got better daily because I made it a goal of mine to help more people,' he said.
On March 27, Foley officially ordered for Sorensen to be put back to work, calling firing him 'extreme' given his 'unblemished 12-year work history.'
A 2021 state law limits the power of arbitrators in Oregon, stating the litigators cannot minimize punishments if doing so is against public interest, specifically when 'enforcing a higher standard of conduct for law enforcement officers and ensuring an accountable, fair and just disciplinary process.'
OregonLive reported Sorensen is planning to file an unfair labor practice complaint to solidify his return to his previous position.
Magill said he will cite Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based on ace, color, religion, sex and nationality, when Sorensen formally tries to get his job back.
'We will continue to defend our decision to terminate his employment through the appropriate legal means,' Magill told the outlet.

BREAKING NEWS Frantic hunt for gunman after Democratic lawmakers shot at their homes in 'targeted attacks'

At least three people were shot early Saturday in what authorities believe were targeted attacks at the homes of Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota. Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and State Representative Melissa Hortman are thought to have been targeted by a gunman impersonating a police officer. The first shooting occurred shortly after 2 am at Hoffman's residence in Champlin. A man and a woman were shot multiple times and their conditions are unknown, KSTP reported. Hoffman has served in the Minnesota Senate since 2013. The second incident took place eight miles south at a home in Brooklyn Park, reportedly belonging to Hortman, who has served in the position since January 2023, near the Edinburgh Golf Course. One man was reportedly shot multiple times, however his condition is also unknown, The Sun reported. Authorities believe the two incidents are connected and involve a suspect posing as law enforcement. Governor Tim Walz has since addressed the situation on social media, condemning the 'targeted attacks,' and adding that he is activating the State Emergency Operations Center as police launch an urgent manhunt. At least three people were shot early Saturday in what authorities believe were targeted attacks at the homes of Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota 'I've been briefed this morning on an ongoing situation involving targeted shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park,' Walz wrote on X. 'I've activated the State Emergency Operations Center. Local law enforcement in Champlin and Brooklyn Park have the full resources of the State of Minnesota behind them. 'We are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information soon,' the Governor wrote. Police described the suspect as a white male with brown hair, wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants. Brooklyn Park Police issued a shelter-in-place order around 5:30 am, later expanding it to a three-mile radius around the Edinburgh Golf Course. Another emergency alert was issued around 7 am, advising residents to only open their doors if two officers are present and to call 911 to verify any officer's identity. 'Police are looking for a suspect in multiple targeted shootings who is armed and dangerous,' the alert stated. 'Suspect is white male, brown hair, wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants and may misrepresent himself as law enforcement.' The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether the lawmakers were the intended targets or if the attacks were politically motivated.

Scott Wolf's controversial pal speaks out after shocking 'arrest' of actor's wife

Scott Wolf's close friend Billy Bush has spoken out after the actor's estranged wife was 'arrested' on Friday. Kelley Wolf — who had announced her divorce from the star earlier this week — was seen being apprehended by law enforcement during a shocking Instagram Live session while she was at the Sundance Resort in Utah. As the officers placed what sounded like handcuffs around her wrists, one of the deputies at the scene told the mom-of-three that she was 'not going to jail.' Kelley then could be heard saying, 'I think this is shameful and Scott Wolf has been abusing me and now you're abusing me more.' In his clip uploaded not long after the incident, Bush shut down the claims of 'abuse' against his pal Scott. Billy began the reel by stating that Wolf was one of his 'very best friends.' 'Right now there is a video floating around. His wife had Instagram Live on and she's being apprehended by police and they're taking her in,' he recounted. 'And at the end she says, "Scott Wolf has been abusing me." I know both Kelley and Scott very, very well... And I can tell you this. There is zero truth to anything abusive by Scott.' Bush added that the Party Of Five actor is 'the kindest, sweetest person. He is everything you see and think you know about him when you see him.' 'He is all of that and more. And Kelley is getting the help she needs. And I can tell you, I've talked to her myself one-on-one personally about it,' he added. Toward the end of the clip, the TV host said, 'She's got excellent parents. They're on it. She's a beautiful person. And so is Scott. 'So, just want you to know that and it will unfold but that is the case.' Billy and Scott have been close pals for many years, with Wolf also coming to the TV personality's defense in the past. Billy was fired from the Today Show in 2016 — despite only joining the morning show earlier that year — after an old recording resurfaced during Donald Trump's presidential campaign that featured both Trump and Bush making lewd comments about women. 'I love the man. And he's not a good man — he's a great man,' Scott said of Billy during an appearance on What What Happens Live in 2017. 'And you know what, he's figuring it out. That was like an unprecedented thing to happen to anyone, but I know who he is behind what everybody has heard and I love him.' Earlier on Friday morning, eerie new details emerged about the shock video of Scott's estranged wife Kelley, who was apprehended by law enforcement on camera. The incident was inadvertently captured on Instagram Live, although the screen was blacked out through most of the footage until Kelley's face was briefly seen at the end, along with those of two sheriff's deputies. Her voice was clear as she insisted that she would 'go on my own,' before one of the officers was heard asking, 'You got that arm?' followed by what seemed to be the sound of handcuffs clicking shut. A deputy assured her she was 'not going to jail,' while adding that she 'made some comments to your dad, and comments to people that concern — are concerning.' Kelley claimed: 'I think this is shameful and Scott Wolf has been abusing me and now you're abusing me more.' So far, there hasn't been any confirmation of her allegations, and she didn't specify the alleged abuse in the video. Authorities have also given their side of the story behind the disturbing footage and revealed where they took her after she was detained. The incident unfolded Friday morning at the Sundance Resort in Sundance, Utah, where Kelley had been staying since Wednesday, according to People. A press release by local law enforcement said: 'Deputies responded to the Sundance Resort for a report of a female that needed some help. Upon speaking with the female, our Deputies learned that she had made concerning comments to a family member, and she also made similar comments to our Deputies. For that reason, our Deputies transported the female to a local hospital.' A spokesperson for the Utah County Sheriff's Office explained further: 'Typically, when we transport somebody in any of our patrol vehicles, they are placed in properly-fitted hand restraints, just for their protection and our protection as law enforcement as well.' The spokesperson continued: 'So that's what happened today: she was placed in hand restraints, placed into a vehicle, and transported by our deputies to a hospital.' has contacted Scott's representatives for comment. Early in the footage, Kelley could be heard saying: 'Oh my God, this is not happening! Fine, I'll go. I'll go on my own. Please, I'll go on my own!' 'You got that arm?' said one of the deputies, and a noise that sounded like handcuffs being applied was then distinctly audible, as Kelley said: 'Wow. Wow.' She lambasted the officers: 'This is shameful, gentlemen. Look at this. Look at this woman. This is shameful. Be ashamed of yourselves, gentlemen.' One of the deputies said: 'You're not going to jail,' followed by another sentence that was drowned out as Kelley, a life coach, snapped: 'I know what I'm doing. I've done this. This is my job. Shame on all of you.' 'You've made some comments to your dad, and comments to people that concern - are concerning,' explained one of the officers. Kelley then directed their attention to the fact the exchange was being recorded on her phone, saying: 'You might wanna turn this off. It's on. Would you like to turn it off? You want me to turn it off?' She clarified for the officers that she 'didn't mean to' stream the incident, and one of the policemen offered: 'I can turn it off if you'd like me to,' to which she said: 'Please turn it off. Please.' By the end of the video, Kelley was finally visible, asking the deputies to hand her the phone so that she could switch it off on her own. She later posted an Instagram Stories photo of her personal effects laid out in front of her, including a handbag, a Gatorade bottle and a baseball cap. 'This is horrible. I have been taken against my will. Please check in on my kids. Also... I am happy!! Happier than I have ever been,' she wrote. 'I have NO idea why or how this is happening in AMERICA.' Kelley added: 'I am compliant, calm and respectful, and hopefully this is all sorted very quickly. In the meantime, be kind to each other. This is one of the darkest things I've ever experienced.' The astonishing episode follows Scott's statement on the divorce, which he issued after Kelley announced their split in a cryptic Instagram post. She had shared the announcement of their split on social media on Tuesday, stating: 'It is with a heavy heart that Scott and I are moving forward with the dissolution of our marriage. 'This has been a long, quiet journey for me — rooted in hope, patience, and care for our children.' Although she didn't disclose the reason for their shocking split, Kelley offered positive words toward Scott. 'Scott Wolf is one of the best fathers I've ever known and one of the best partners a woman could have the privilege of sharing life with. He is kind, thoughtful, funny, and beautiful in spirit.' She said their priority would be continuing to raise their three children, and Kelley added that she will focus on her own 'healing' as well. 'I am stepping into a chapter of peace, freedom, and protection — with grace. Thank you to the many friends, family, and professionals who have held space for me with love,' she added. 'Please respect our privacy during this time. May we all remember: healing isn't loud. It's sacred.' Wolf also confirmed the news of the separation and issued a statement to People: 'After 21 years of marriage, I have made the most difficult decision of my life, and filed for divorce from my wife Kelley. 'Our children have always been, and continue to be, the loves of our lives and our every priority, so I kindly ask for privacy at this time as we help guide them through this new chapter.' Before the divorce announcement, Kelley had also posted a cryptic message to her followers about wanting to 'tell the truth' and feeling 'misunderstood.' She tied the knot with the Doc actor back in 2004, and the estranged couple celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last month in May. The couple share three children: Jackson, Miller, and Lucy.

EXCLUSIVE Ex-Hillary Clinton aide set to tie the knot with George Soros' son in lavish Hamptons wedding...as Democrat A list invite list revealed

Ex-Hillary Clinton aide, Huma Abedin, dazzled in off-white as she mingled with Democrat A-listers ahead of her Hamptons wedding to the wealthy son of George Soros, exclusive pictures reveal. Abedin, 48, wore a simple but elegant mid-length champagne-colored dress with flutter sleeves and matching heeled sandals as she celebrated her upcoming nuptials to Alex Soros, 39, on Shelter Island, New York, on Friday. The groom-to-be complimented his bride in a light brown suit with matching shoes as the pair spent the evening mingling with A-list Democrats, such as Clinton herself. Her husband, Bill Clinton, and daughter Chelsea, alongside former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, are on the high-profile wedding guest list, sources told Page Six. Hillary was seen talking to Abedin's son, Jordan, whom she shares with disgraced politician, Anthony Weiner, 60, who is attempting to break back into NYC politics with a bid for city council. Her ex-husband, who she divorced after he was jailed for sexting a minor, is not attending the wedding. She did donate $175 toward his campaign, according to public records. The happy couple hosted Friday night's soiree for dozens of family members and friends at the waterfront estate of Soros' mother, Susan Weber, on Shelter Island, in the exclusive enclave of Dering Harbor. The rehearsal dinner was surrounded by heavy security, including Secret Service agents guarding former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, who arrived with Soros and Abedin in a motorcade of black SUVs. The Democrat insider and the liberal mega-donor hosted their rehearsal dinner – reportedly catered by Marie Eiffel – in a warmly lit white marquee on the lawn, with two bars at either end and a string ensemble to entertain guests as they enjoyed their sit-down meal. The ex-president, who wore a dark blazer and pants, was seen gingerly clambering out of the SUV, just days after sparking concern over his apparently fragile appearance at his book launch in New York City. Well-dressed guests were chauffeured to the party in a fleet of sleek black minibuses and blacked out SUVs as local police were drafted in to manage the slew of traffic on the residential road. Soros's mother was seen making final preparations before the arrival of the guests, most of whom had to line up under a gazebo on the front drive to show their invitations. VIPs including the bride, groom and the Clintons were driven directly down the private driveway of Soros' mother's abode. Some guests were luckier than others in getting into the exclusive event, with one unhappy-looking couple left standing on the side of the road for some time after they apparently failed to produce their invitations. The dinner comes ahead of the Democrat power couple's hotly anticipated wedding celebration Saturday at George Soros's $14.5million mega mansion in Southampton, New York. It has been billed as the society wedding of the year for the Democratic elite, with a string of leftie power-players reportedly expected to attend, including the former presidents, George and Amal Clooney, and Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, among others. The happy couple hosted Friday night's soiree for dozens of family members and friends at the waterfront estate of Soros' mother, Susan Weber, on Shelter Island, in the exclusive enclave of Dering Harbor Several European prime ministers linked to Soros Sr.'s grant-giving foundation Open Society, are also set to attend, according to Page Six. Wintour, who hosted the couple's engagement party at her SoHo apartment last December, is said to have promised the couple coverage in Vogue for their wedding. On Friday, Soros Sr.'s 12-bedroom walled estate was abuzz with preparations for the wedding, with security staff on watch as tables were set out for cocktail hour and what appeared to be a pre-wedding photo shoot of the couple. But the nuptials could be blighted by rain throughout the day and a planned protest against the Trump Administration taking place nearby. Activists are gathering on Cooper's Beach – some 2.4 miles away - between 2pm and 4.30pm under the banner of the nationwide 'No Kings' protests. Protest organizers say of the event: 'We the people of Long Island cook, clean and landscape for the ultra-rich - yet they ignore our suffering. 'While costs for food and rent are skyrocketing, and programs like Social Security and Medicare are being slashed. On just one Southampton street, two billionaires hoard $117B from Wall Street gambling and fossil fuels. 'Instead of helping people here, Congress - backed by billionaires - sends billions to foreign conflicts instead of helping people right here in the US. 'The working class is under attack. We say: Enough! Tax all income over $10M at 100 percent - abolish billionaires! Food, housing, healthcare, and education should come before profit.' A no-fly zone encompassing the property is in force from 3pm Saturday until 3am Sunday. Soros and his father are among the most prolific fundraisers in the Democratic Party. Soros has been named heir to his father's $25billion empire. Abedin was one of Clinton's top aides during her tenure as Secretary of State during President Obama's first term. She hit the headlines when it was revealed her husband, then a Democratic US Congressman from New York had texted nude pictures to young women. Weiner resigned his post but ran again in 2013 when again he was found to have sexted pictures. Abedin divorced him and he was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison and he had to register as a sex offender. Abedin and Soros met in the fall of 2023 at Nicky Hilton's birthday party, and they were engaged in New York City in May 2024.
