Saudi travel: Polio vaccine mandatory for passengers flying from Pakistan for Umrah

Khaleej Times11-02-2025

Passengers travelling from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia have been advised to get the polio vaccine and get the certificate stamped from a government or private hospital.
This new decision will apply to passengers travelling to the Kingdom on Umrah, as well as visit/tourist and business visas.
Pakistan's private carrier Airblue said Iqama holders and Saudi nationals are exempted from this condition when they enter the Gulf country.
'Passengers are required to receive either an IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine) dose within the last 12 months or an OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine) dose within the last six months, both at least four weeks before arriving in Saudi Arabia,' the airline said on social media platform X.
This is in effect from February 10, 2025.
Over the past couple of days, hundreds of Umrah pilgrims were offloaded from the aircraft at Lahore' Allama Iqbal International Airport for not being vaccinated with the polio vaccine.
Millions of Pakistanis travel to Saudi Arabia annually for the pilgrimage through different carriers. Now, they will have to make preparations well in advance to ensure that they're compliant with the new vaccine regulation.

On-Road Mobile Stations Support Hajj Pilgrims During Bus Breakdowns

Saudi Arabia's Roads General Authority has introduced mobile service pods along the Hijrah Expressway that connects Makkah and Madinah. These stations are intended to assist pilgrims whose buses experience mechanical issues en route. For many pilgrims, the journey between Mecca and Madinah is spiritual and physically demanding. Unexpected bus breakdowns can add to the challenges, leaving pilgrims stranded under the scorching sun. Inaugurated by Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser, these mobile units are strategically located along the Hijrah Expressway to support distressed pilgrims. In addition to providing physical assistance, they create a feeling of safety and compassion, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to the well-being of each pilgrim. Each mobile unit can host 40 pilgrims and features air conditioning, seating, restrooms, and facilities for serving cold drinks and meals. Functioning 24/7 during the Hajj season, these stations are designed to offer prompt relief and comfort to pilgrims in need. This initiative is part of a larger effort by Saudi authorities to guarantee the safety and well-being of all pilgrims.
