Blackburn Rovers clarity after reported addition to Valerien Ismael staff

Yahoo20-05-2025

Adam Murray will not be joining Blackburn Rovers after taking up the manager's role at Kidderminster Harriers.
The 43-year-old has been linked with a move to Ewood Park to become part of Valerien Ismael's backroom staff. Murray initially worked under Ismael at Barnsley and later followed the head coach to West Brom and Besiktas.
He had a spell in charge at AFC Fylde before taking over at Eastbourne Borough in January 2024, leading the club to safety in the National League South.
Murray's side finished third this season but were beaten by Maidstone United in the play-offs earlier this month. He then announced he was leaving the club earlier this week, sparking fresh speculation he could be moving to Ewood Park.

However, he has instead been unveiled as Kidderminster's new manager. He was a former player with the National Leaue North side, joining on loan in 2003/04 before making the move permanent.
He made 22 appearances for the club, scoring three times, before his move to Mansfield – later playing for Carlisle, Torquay, Mansfield and Oxford.
Murray replaces Phil Brown, who led The Harriers to third in the division but they were beaten in the play-offs. Scunthorpe United were promoted alongisde Brackley Town.
Owner Richard Lane said of the appointment: 'I'm delighted to welcome Adam Murray to our football club. His enthusiasm, commitment and passion for the position came through loudly when we met and his CV, as a player and a manager, speaks for itself.
'I believe this appointment will excite our amazing Partners, Sponsors, supporters and staff, this demonstrates again that we are fully committed to succeeding at this level and we're all looking forward to the new season.'
Ismael did not rule out future additions to his team when he was appointed but nothing has been suggested outside of the links to Murray.
"As I say it was the first step to come with Dean (Whitehead) and for sure we will assess the situation as I say and week after week to get that feeling," he told The Lancashire Telegraph.
"If we need to add someone more, then we will do it and at the minute it's just to observe, to assess and later we will take some decisions."

Judy Murray tennis initiative helps primary-age girls Learn To Lead

Judy Murray is launching an initiative encouraging primary-age girls to participate in competitive sport and to mentor each other. Ms Murray, a former GB Federation Cup captain who raised her children, Sir Andy Murray and Jamie Murray, to be international tennis champions, has been campaigning to keep girls involved in sport since 2014 with her UK-wide initiative Miss Hits. On Thursday, she is launching Learn To Lead in Scotland, training older primary pupils to mentor younger girls by playing tennis. Research conducted by Women in Sport found 1.3 million teenage girls who considered themselves sporty at primary school dropped out when they started high school, and the project is designed to combat this trend. Learn To Lead is aimed at girls aged between 10 and 12, encouraging them to become coaches at lunchtime or at after-school tennis clubs. Pupils in P6 and P7 will lead girls aged between four and nine, organising sessions and setting up in school gyms or playgrounds, teaching basic leadership and organisational skills in a bid to maintain participation in sport. Ms Murray will initially partner with 20 primary schools, targeting those with a local tennis club nearby to ensure a convenient place to continue playing. It follows a pilot in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire which organisers say has already seen 'huge benefits' for pupils. Training sessions will be held in schools ahead of the launch of each club, and videos, lesson plans and equipment will be provided. A teacher will be required to supervise, but Learn To Lead allows older primary pupils to plan, set up, and run activities for younger girls, sharing their knowledge and passion for the sport. Ms Murray said: 'As a female tennis coach, I want to inspire the next generation of girls to learn to lead sporting activity so I can be confident that once I have retired, we have a well-trained coaching workforce in place and ready to continue growing the girls' side of the game. 'I believe Learn To Lead will help us to not just get girls playing sport at a young age, but keep them engaged throughout their lives and perhaps even provide a route towards careers in coaching or developing sport. Launching my Learn to Lead (with Miss-Hits) programme for primary school girls to teachers next week @stgeorgesedin . Developing leadership skills in p6/7 and introducing starter tennis to p1-4. Big girls delivering FUN lunchtime clubs to wee girls. Perfect. ⬇️ — judy murray (@JudyMurray) May 27, 2025 'My life has revolved around sport and as well as the obvious physical and mental health benefits that brings, the life skills you develop really prepare you for what adulthood will throw at you. The friendships often last a lifetime. 'It worries me that so many girls drop out of sport in their teenage years. I hope this programme can help address some of the issues around this by providing a fun and friendly atmosphere with development options too. 'Whether girls go on to become competitive players, coaches or just develop a love for sport, this is about growing participation and getting young girls active. 'I am really proud of what Miss Hits has already achieved, and hope that over the coming months we can build on this with our junior workforce leading the way.' Sarah Fraser, lead active schools co-ordinator (projects) at Sport Aberdeen, said: 'Learn To Lead has been a huge hit. From our initial work with the programme we have already seen huge benefits for the girls involved. 'For some of the younger girls this has been the first sports club they've been involved in, and it has given them a chance to try out tennis. 'For the older girls leading the classes, we have been struck by the confidence and leadership skills they have gained. 'I would definitely encourage schools to get involved. 'Learn To Lead is easy to pick up and deliver, and it is a great way to support girls to not just try sports, but to continue playing and develop their skills as they approach their teenage years and beyond.'

Tottenham Hotspur coach takes Championship job with more appointments imminent

Blackburn Rovers' rivals, West Brom, have ended their search for a new head coach after sacking Tony Mowbray. Tottenham Hotspur Assistant, Ryan Mason, has penned a three-year deal to replace the former Rovers boss. The Baggies sacked Mowbray after they failed to make the Championship play-offs. Advertisement Mason has been identified as his successor and has decided to leave his role as part of Ange Postecoglou's backroom staff to take his first senior management role. He'd been part of the coaching team at Spurs for seven years under various managers. "This is a huge club with a fantastic infrastructure and an incredible fanbase, and I am excited about what we can achieve together," Mason said after being unveiled. READ MORE: Blackburn Rovers' big summer battle that could force late transfer activity "Having spoken at length to the board and those at the club I am convinced that Albion is the perfect place for me to be and I can't wait to get started. Advertisement "I will bring with me a huge amount of enthusiasm, dedication and ambition, and look forward to a positive future together at such a fantastic club." Nigel Gibbs, who joins from Reading, has been named Mason's assistant, with Sam Pooley coming in from Rangers as the club's first-team coach and head of performance. More Championship jobs could be snapped up this week with Hull City close to appointing Bosnian boss Sergej Jakirovic. He is leaving Turkish outfit Kayserispor after half a season to take the gig in East Yorkshire. After flirting with relegation when the 48-year-old took charge in January, Jakirovic moved the club well away from danger to the relative comfort of 13th place, but is now heading for his first job in English football. It is a done deal, though Hull have to wait until a visa is secured which won't be until the end of the week at the earliest. Liam Manning's move from Bristol City to Norwich remains ongoing, with legalities being finalised. When that is complete, only Queens Park Rangers and the Robins will have vacancies for next season, though Leicester City may still choose to replace Ruud van Nistelroy and Danny Rohl's position at Sheffield Wednesday seems untenable.
