DU extends single girl child quota to PG courses from 2025
New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at promoting gender equity in higher education, Delhi University has extended its single girl child quota to postgraduate (PG) courses starting 2025-26 academic session, as per officials.

The policy was already in place for undergraduate (UG) admissions in the 2023-24 cycle. With this initiative, one supernumerary seat will be reserved in each PG programme for a woman candidate who is the only girl child in her family.
DU officials described this step as a continuation of university's broader commitment to creating an inclusive academic environment. "With this new quota, DU hopes to foster an environment that values the contribution of girls, allowing them to advance their education without barriers.
By offering this support, the university aims to make higher education more accessible and provide equal opportunities for all students," said a university official.
The single girl child quota will be applicable across all 77 PG programmes offered by DU. Admissions to these courses are conducted through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-PG), followed by the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS).
The introduction of the single girl child quota is part of DU's sustained efforts to support diverse student groups. The university already has supernumerary quotas in place for several categories, including sports, persons with disabilities, children and widows of armed forces personnel and orphans. "DU is once again reaffirming its goal of ensuring equitable access to education for all segments of society," said the official.
At the UG level, 764 students were admitted across 69 colleges in 2024. Additionally, 132 seats were allocated to orphans under a supernumerary quota introduced last year to support children affected by Covid.

CUET PG merit list released, choice filling begins today
Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on Thursday announced the merit list for postgraduate admissions based on CUET-PG 2025 scores. DU orders structural audit across campuses amid safety concerns
New Delhi, The Delhi University administration has ordered a comprehensive structural and safety inspection in all its colleges, hostels and departments during the summer vacation, after multiple infrastructure-related accidents across campuses were reported. In an official circular issued by the Office of the Proctor, the university directed authorities to begin inspections of "all the rooms and toilets in your institution" after examinations end, as part of a survey under the Board of Residence, Health and Discipline, Ordinance XV . This move comes after several accidents, including a fire at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, another at the University Science Instrumentation Center, and an incident where a fan fell on a teacher at Kalindi College, were reported. There have also been repeated complaints about falling ceilings and deteriorating infrastructure in various colleges. "Please see that all the roofs and walls are in proper and safe condition, all the electrical fittings, like fans, lights are in working condition and there is ample supply of drinking water and water in the toilet," the letter states. The directive also stresses the need to ensure that "the lifts are in working condition and the ramps for PWD students are repaired." Colleges have been told to check fire safety measures: "Kindly see that the fire extinguishers are in working condition. If any building requires white-wash, please get it done," it adds, noting this is in light of "few incidents which happened in some colleges." New Delhi: In the wake of recent safety incidents across its campuses, Delhi University (DU) has issued a directive mandating comprehensive safety inspections at all its affiliated colleges. The university has instructed college principals, department heads, hostel supervisors, and librarians to carry out detailed assessments to ensure that campus infrastructure is safe and well-maintained for students and staff.
