DU extends single girl child quota to PG courses from 2025
New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at promoting gender equity in higher education, Delhi University has extended its single girl child quota to postgraduate (PG) courses starting 2025-26 academic session, as per officials.

The policy was already in place for undergraduate (UG) admissions in the 2023-24 cycle. With this initiative, one supernumerary seat will be reserved in each PG programme for a woman candidate who is the only girl child in her family.
DU officials described this step as a continuation of university's broader commitment to creating an inclusive academic environment. "With this new quota, DU hopes to foster an environment that values the contribution of girls, allowing them to advance their education without barriers.
By offering this support, the university aims to make higher education more accessible and provide equal opportunities for all students," said a university official.
The single girl child quota will be applicable across all 77 PG programmes offered by DU. Admissions to these courses are conducted through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-PG), followed by the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS).
The introduction of the single girl child quota is part of DU's sustained efforts to support diverse student groups. The university already has supernumerary quotas in place for several categories, including sports, persons with disabilities, children and widows of armed forces personnel and orphans. "DU is once again reaffirming its goal of ensuring equitable access to education for all segments of society," said the official.
At the UG level, 764 students were admitted across 69 colleges in 2024. Additionally, 132 seats were allocated to orphans under a supernumerary quota introduced last year to support children affected by Covid.

CUET PG merit list released, choice filling begins today
Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on Thursday announced the merit list for postgraduate admissions based on CUET-PG 2025 scores. Students who registered for PG admissions at DAVV through CUET PG can now check their merit rank on the university's website. The choice filling process will begin from June 13 to June 19. "Students can view their merit status and proceed with course preferences," said Prof Rajesh Sharma, Chairman, CUET PG Admissions at DAVV. The choice filling involves selecting and prioritising programmes across departments and locking preferences before the deadline to be eligible for allotment. Despite a record 86,000 students selecting DAVV as their preferred institution during the CUET-PG registration process—more than double last year's figure—the university received just over 1,500 registrations for its 1,450 PG seats, raising concern among the admissions committee. Sharma attributed this to confusion over subject mapping: "Many students only appeared for their core subject exams, skipping required tests like general knowledge and mathematics, which limited their eligibility. " As per the official counselling schedule, the first round of seat allotment will be announced on June 24. Students allotted seats will have to report for document verification between June 30 and July 2, followed by online fee submission from June 30 to July 6.. DU orders structural audit across campuses amid safety concerns
New Delhi, The Delhi University administration has ordered a comprehensive structural and safety inspection in all its colleges, hostels and departments during the summer vacation, after multiple infrastructure-related accidents across campuses were reported. In an official circular issued by the Office of the Proctor, the university directed authorities to begin inspections of "all the rooms and toilets in your institution" after examinations end, as part of a survey under the Board of Residence, Health and Discipline, Ordinance XV . This move comes after several accidents, including a fire at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, another at the University Science Instrumentation Center, and an incident where a fan fell on a teacher at Kalindi College, were reported. There have also been repeated complaints about falling ceilings and deteriorating infrastructure in various colleges. "Please see that all the roofs and walls are in proper and safe condition, all the electrical fittings, like fans, lights are in working condition and there is ample supply of drinking water and water in the toilet," the letter states. The directive also stresses the need to ensure that "the lifts are in working condition and the ramps for PWD students are repaired." Colleges have been told to check fire safety measures: "Kindly see that the fire extinguishers are in working condition. If any building requires white-wash, please get it done," it adds, noting this is in light of "few incidents which happened in some colleges." The Proctor's Office has appealed to all institutions to make sure students return to a safe and healthy environment. "Kindly ensure that the students, when they come back from their vacation, have a safe, secure and healthy environment," the letter reads. The matter was discussed in a recent Executive Council meeting, where EC member Aman Kumar demanded an infrastructure audit. Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh had directed the Engineering Department to examine the issue. Following this, the Proctor's Office has issued formal orders to address the situation proactively.

DU colleges to undergo safety audits post infrastructure mishaps
New Delhi: In the wake of recent safety incidents across its campuses, Delhi University (DU) has issued a directive mandating comprehensive safety inspections at all its affiliated colleges. The university has instructed college principals, department heads, hostel supervisors, and librarians to carry out detailed assessments to ensure that campus infrastructure is safe and well-maintained for students and staff. The circular follows several alarming incidents. A fire broke out in the library of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce due to a short circuit, and a similar blaze was reported on Tuesday in the university's Department of Geology when computers caught fire. Earlier in April, a faculty member at Kalindi College was reportedly injured when a ceiling fan fell in a classroom. These events have sparked serious concerns about the physical condition of DU's facilities. "It is requested that after the examinations end and the vacation period begins, a thorough survey be conducted in all rooms and toilets of your institution. Please ensure that all roofs and walls are structurally sound, electrical fittings such as fans and lights are functioning, there is enough provision for drinking water and adequate supply of toilet water," stated the circular issued by DU Proctor Rajni Abbi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Buenos Aires (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo The notice further added, "Please ensure that lifts are operational, ramps for students with disabilities are repaired, and fire extinguishers are in working condition. If your building requires whitewashing, please get it done. This directive follows a few incidents reported from various colleges." A senior university official underscored the urgency of the inspections. "The recent fire in the geology department, along with the incident involving the ceiling fan, led to the issuance of this circular. Our priority is to prevent such mishaps in the future and ensure that all safety measures are firmly in place before students return from vacation and the new academic session begins," the official said. The directive calls for thorough checks of all rooms and restrooms, with specific focus on fire safety equipment, elevators, accessibility features for students with disabilities, electrical systems, and water supply infrastructure. It also emphasises the need to verify the structural integrity of buildings and maintain hygienic and functional sanitation facilities.
