PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — The GIANT Company is recalling a brand of veggie chips after a possible undeclared allergen.
Select packs of veggie chips made by Nature's Promise are being recalled as they may contain wheat, while it's not listed on the packaging.
The following products are affected:
Nature's Promise Veggie Chips multipack, 6 count, 6 oz., UPC 68826758057, with the lot code of SEPT 22 2025
Nature's Promise Veggie Chips, 1 oz., UPC 68826758056, with the lot code of SEPT 22 2025
Customers who have wheat allergies and purchased the product are urged not to eat it. Customers can return to a store with their receipt for a full refund.
GIANT Company stores can be found across Pennsylvania, along with Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

Uptick in tick bites reported in Central Pennsylvania emergency rooms
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — With summer temperatures reaching Central Pennsylvania, emergency rooms are noticing an uptick in ticks. 'The seasons are now changing and so we're doing a lot more outdoor stuff,' said Nsikak Daniel, M.D., an emergency room physician at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. 'Ticks are just one of those things you kind of get when you go out into the woods.' While children and older adults may have the most adverse reactions to tick bites, everyone should take precautions. Juniata College receives approval from state nursing board for new nursing program 'Wear clothing that covers you up, you know, socks and stuff like that with your shoes. Insect repellents sometimes can help,' Daniels said. Lyme Disease is a common illness carried by ticks, often characterized by a bullseye–shaped rash around a bite. While it's become more prevalent, Daniels said it's not the only thing you should worry about. 'One of the complications a lot of people don't think about is something that's called anaplasmosis. It's a very serious, tick borne illness and it's something that can affect your bloodstream. It can affect your organs and cause organ damage,' Daniels said. If you get bit and have any concerns that you did not remove the tick or notice signs of infection such as fever or a rash, you should go to the emergency room immediately. Veterinarians also said they're seeing a rise in bites and infections in dogs. They said the best way to keep your furry friend safe is to use medications and repellents, mow your lawn and avoid high risk areas like tall grass and wooded areas during tick season. Despite looming campus closure, Penn State DuBois launches new nursing program
DUBOIS, Pa. (WTAJ) — Despite the recent announcement that Penn State will be closing the DuBois campus, there will be a new licensed practical nursing (LPN) program launching in the fall. The non-credit 18-month certificate program will launch on August 18 and is set to offer a part-time path for students who want to enter the nursing profession. This comes just weeks after the Penn State University Board of Trustees voted to close seven commonwealth campuses, including the one where the new program will take place. According to a release, courses will be held in the DEF building on the DuBois campus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. They added that students will get hands-on experience and take part in clinical rotations every weekend at local healthcare facilities. 'We have more than 30 potential participants and are excited to add to that total now that we have the final approval to move forward.' The program hopes to prepare students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), a requirement to earn licensure in all 50 states. To apply, interested individuals must complete an online interest form. Applicants will be contacted about the next steps, which include submitting two professional letters of reference and a one-page essay describing their motivation to become a nurse. It's unclear at this time when exactly the campus will close, but Penn State has previously stated that help and options will be provided to both students and staff when the time comes. The recommendation to close the campus came after 'persistent and compounding structural challenges' that didn't make the campus viable for the long term. In an official report, they said they've also seen a 46% decrease in enrollment over the last decade and that there is little sign that it will increase. The committee that made recommendations to close DuBois, Fayette, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Shenango, Wilkes Barre and York campuses looked at enrollment trends, demographic forecasts, student outcomes, financial performance, housing occupancy, capital investment needs and geographic proximity to make their determination. The products are being recalled due to potential microbial contamination identified as fungi in cotton swab components. Swabs found to contain microbial contamination can potentially present a significant risk to the health and safety of consumers including serious and life-threatening blood infections in users whose nasal mucosa may be compromised due to inflammation and mechanical injuries. The risk is highest (potentially severe or life-threatening) among children and individuals with compromised immune systems or other underlying medical conditions. To date, no serious adverse events associated with the affected product have been reported. The recalled products were distributed nationwide in the United States and in Puerto Rico.
