Edmonton weather: Wet start to the weekend but a sunny finish

Scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the province (again) on Friday.
For the Edmonton region, we'll start the day off sunny and then the risk of precipitation comes into play late this afternoon/early this evening.
Temperatures will get to the 24 C range for an afternoon high.
So...a lot like yesterday.
Cloudier and a bit cooler Saturday with an afternoon high near 20 C.
There's a good chance we'll have some steadier showers or periods of light rain overnight and through the morning hours on Saturday.
That area of rain is expected to stretch from the Edmonton region into east-central Alberta.
However - the latest hi-res modelling from ECCC indicates that the rain zone might develop a bit further northeast instead of right over the city.
So...I'm going with a 70 per cent chance of showers or rain for Saturday morning. It WAS looking pretty close to a guarantee...but now it's just 'very likely.'
Assuming we DO have some more precip tomorrow, it should taper off/move out by midday, although we'll stay cloudy through the afternoon with some gusts in the 30-40 km/h range.
Sunday/Monday will be sunnier and several degrees warmer as we climb back into the mid 20s in Edmonton and area.
Canada Day has a slight chance of an evening shower or thunderstorm. But, the bulk of the day should be beautiful.
Sunny in the morning, partly cloudy in the afternoon and light wind. Temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 20s.
That heat sticks around through to the end of next week.
Here's the forecast for Edmonton and area:

Sask. province-wide wildfire state of emergency expires
A province-wide wildfire state of emergency in Saskatchewan has ended. The order was issued by Premier Scott Moe on May 27 when several out-of-control wildfires threatened numerous communities, which led to around 15,000 people being forced to evacuate at its peak. As of Friday, evacuations had ended for all but two communities. Recent rainfall and cooler temperatures allowed firefighters to more aggressively attack fires and reduce threats to the majority of communities close to wildfires in recent weeks. According to the Saskatchewan Public safety Agency (SPSA), daily wildfire updates will also end. Updates will be provided when necessary, moving forward. Officials say people can stay up to date by using the SPSA's online dashboards. On Friday afternoon, the SPSA's website said there are 26 active wildfires across the province with 10 that are not contained. To date, there have been 274 wildfires in Saskatchewan, well above the five year average of 171. As of last Friday (June 20) the province had confirmed that 1,931 values had been lost to the fires, including 299 houses and 60 cabins. The SPSA's last wildfire update came on June 23, when officials indicated loss totals had not risen since June 20. -With files from The Canadian Press and Caitlin Brezinski

Mattawa and area under a flood watch
has all the weather details you need to know for northeastern Ontario and what to expect for the next seven days. The Ministry of Natural Resources in the North Bay District said Friday that a flood watch is in effect for the residents in Papineau-Cameron Township, Mattawan Township and the Town of Mattawa on the Ottawa River until July 4. 'In addition to last weekend's storm event, which brought significant precipitation and an increase in water levels and flows, the current weather forecast includes additional rainfall and the possibility of thunderstorms,' a news release Friday said. Remain vigilant 'Residents are advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution around rivers and streams. Water levels and river flows are expected to stay high as the precipitation moves through the watershed.' Affected residents are urged to ' protect and secure any vulnerable property in proximity to rivers and lakes, closely monitor developing conditions and regularly check for updated messages.' Showers and thunderstorms will be moving through the northeast region Friday and over the weekend as it moves eastward through Ontario. Between 10-20 mm of rain is expected to fall in the coming days, with an additional 5-10 mm of rain expected if thunderstorms occur. Water levels are elevated after 50-80 mm fell last weekend.
