Hyderabad: RPF rescues 238 children
Hyderabad: As part of its ongoing fight against human trafficking, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Secunderabad Division has rescued 238 children and apprehended 69 human traffickers so far this year.
According to RPF officials, they have been actively conducting Action Against Human Trafficking (AAHT) in collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTU) and the NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).
During intensive checks across general, sleeper, and AC coaches, child trafficking victims are identified and rescued, while human traffickers and their agents are traced and apprehended. Recently, most cases involved children trafficked from Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
Under Operation AAHT, the RPF is implementing a multi-pronged strategy that involves the deployment of dedicated AHTU personnel, monitoring through CCTV surveillance, and awareness campaigns at railway stations and on trains.
In 2023, RPF Secunderabad Division rescued 305 children and arrested 137 traffickers under Operation AAHT. In 2024, these numbers increased to 310 children rescued and 174 traffickers arrested, reflecting a 1.64 per cent increase in child rescue and a 27.01 per cent rise in trafficker arrests compared to the previous year. In 2025, till date, 238 children have been rescued and 69 traffickers arrested. Officials suspect the number of children rescued could reach 400 by the end of the year.
RPF officials urged rail passengers and citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities by dialling the national helpline number 139.
'Every alert call and watchful eye can help protect vulnerable children from falling prey to this heinous crime. We will continue to intensify tactical raids and coordinated operations to end human trafficking,' said a senior RPF official.

Despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 12.30 pm. In a cruel twist, Sai's wife and friends—unaware of the tragedy—continued their journey until Kacheguda station. Only upon receiving a call from police did they learn the devastating news and disembarked. Based on a complaint by Madhuri, a case has been registered under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Sai's body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Saturday.

146 killed in seven years from falls off moving trains in Madurai division in Tamil Nadu
MADURAI: In the wake of the video of a woman dancing on the footboard of a speeding train in Nagercoil making its rounds on social media, the Southern Railway in its reply to an RTI query filed by TNIE has stated that 146 people died in accidental falls from moving trains in Madurai division in the last seven years. Recently, a social media influencer, Shakela Banu from Nagercoil, made a reel while dancing to a song from the footboard of a moving train. She was widely criticised for the dangerous act and a case has been registered against her. In the aftermath of the incident, TNIE filed an RTI query to the Divisional Security Commissioner of RPF Madurai. In reply stated that they did not have data from 2015 to 2018. However, they reported 26 deaths in 2019, 11 in 2020, 9 in 2021, 17 in 2022, 38 in 2023, 37 in 2024, and 8 in 2025 (till April), totalling to 146 deaths over the years due to accidents caused on moving trains. The Madurai division covers twelve districts in the state and one district in Kerala. An RPF officer said that accidental falls are avoidable deaths in trains. Notably, not all recorded accidental falls are caused by stunts. The railways have provided awareness and instructions to allow passengers to travel safely. In 2023-24, railway police have registered 21 cases for footboard travel and imposed a penalty of Rs 8,700, whereas in 2024-25, it rose to 148 cases for the same and collected Rs 56,900 as a penalty. 'Eight cases were registered in April and six cases in May 2025,' police added. Speaking to TNIE, DRM Madurai Sharad Srivastava said both RPF and ticket checking staff have been asked to do more drives against footboard travel. Action will be taken against those who are involved in photography/videography without permission, he said.

Trichy division realises Rs1.2 lakh as fine for railway gate violations

Emphasizing growing concern over gate rule violations, he said that 90 cases were booked last year (Jan–Dec 2024), and 11 lakh were collected as penalties. He stated that reckless behaviour by road users not only damages railway property but hampers train's punctuality and endangers human lives. To mitigate such risks, cautionary and statutory signboards were installed to advise road users to strictly adhere to safety norms while crossing the railway tracks. The DRM underlined the ongoing efforts to enhance safety through the rationalization of level crossings by constructing limited use subways (LUS), road under bridges (RUBs), and road over bridges (ROBs) in collaboration with the state govt. Anbalagan and other senior officers flagged off a mass awareness rally and the safety publicity mobile vehicle in front of Trichy Junction railway station. The rally proceeded through Central bus terminus. The team distributed safety pamphlets and educated the public on level crossing safety. Later, a vehicle bearing safety awareness banners, along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) visited level crossing gates near Trichy Town, Srirangam, and Thiruverumbur railway stations.
