Trump slams Paul for voting ‘NO on everything,' lacking ‘constructive ideas'

Yahoo2 days ago

President Trump slammed conservative Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Tuesday for pledging to vote against his 'big, beautiful bill', accusing the Kentucky lawmaker of voting 'NO on everything' and 'never' having 'practical or constructive ideas.'
Paul said he could vote for the 1,116-page budget reconciliation bill that passed out of the House last month if it didn't include language to raise the federal debt ceiling by $4 trillion.
Paul's comments sparked Trump to fire back on social media, accusing Paul of having 'crazy' ideas.
'Rand votes NO on everything, but never has any practical or constructive ideas. His ideas are actually crazy (losers!). The people of Kentucky can't stand him. This is a BIG GROWTH BILL!' Trump posted on Truth Social, his social media platform.
In a separate post, Trump declared Paul has 'very little understanding' of the bill and doesn't grasp 'the tremendous GROWTH' it would unleash from the economy.
'Rand Paul has very little understanding of the BBB, especially the tremendous GROWTH that is coming. He loves voting 'NO' on everything, the thinks it's good politics but it's not,' Trump wrote.
'The BBB is a big WINNER!!' he wrote.
Paul says he can't vote for Trump's bill because he is fundamentally opposed to heaping several more trillion dollars onto the national debt over the next two years.
He told CBS's 'Face the Nation' on Sunday that 'the math doesn't really add up' on the cost of Trump's bill.
'I think they're asking for too much money,' he said.
Paul warned before the Memorial Day recess that 'the anticipated deficits per year now will be $2 trillion a year for the next two years.'
He said that Republicans are going to shoulder the blame for huge future federal deficits if they vote to raise the debt ceiling by another $4 trillion or $5 trillion to give the federal government enough room to finance its spending and debt obligations past the 2026 midterm election.
'I think the problem for conservatives is they lose their high moral ground. These will be their deficits,' he said. 'These will be GOP spending bills, GOP deficits and there is no change in the direction of the country.'
Paul said the spending cuts in what Trump calls his big, beautiful bill 'wimpy.'
'They got a $300 billion increase in spending for the military and the border,' he said. 'We don't need another $46 billion for a [border] wall,' Paul said. 'There's nothing conservative about this.'

How Hard Will Musk Fight Republicans' Budget Bill?

Can Musk kill the budget bill? Elon Musk hasn't stopped criticizing the budget bill that he has called a 'disgusting abomination.' In fact, he appears to be just getting started. The debate in Washington now is how far Musk will go to try to defeat a bill that — by the assessment of Musk, several Republicans and now nonpartisan watchdogs — will vastly add to the federal debt. 'KILL THE BILL,' Musk posted on X on Wednesday, a message he urged followers to press with members of Congress. He has turned a majority of his feed into a stream of reposts of content criticizing the legislation and denouncing its effect on the nation's $36 trillion debt load. A string of assessments suggest that the bill will add to the debt. The most consequential, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, estimated that the House version of the plan would add $2.4 trillion over the next decade, given both the roughly $3.8 trillion tax cut at its core and additional spending. (Other estimates are even higher, including the Penn Wharton Budget Model's: $2.8 trillion.) A Republican counter: Attack the messenger. The Trump administration advanced hard-to-believe claims about C.B.O. staff members' partisanship, and arguments that its analysis ignores projected economic growth. That said, a previous nonpartisan analysis of the House bill found that the tax cuts would generate nearly no additional economic growth, and even conservatives found the budget office's analysis credible. 'When all the models are in unison,' Erica York, the vice president for federal tax policy at the Tax Foundation, told The Times, 'it really doesn't make sense to triple down on the strategy to blame the scorekeeper.' BBB of Upstate NY warns drivers of DMV text message scam making the rounds

The Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is alerting the public to another phishing text message scam making the rounds, this time claiming to be from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Cell phone users have reported receiving a message claiming their license and registration will be suspended if they don't pay for an outstanding traffic ticket. BBB reminds the public that the DMV will never contact individuals via text message asking for personal or payment information. Phishing scams, also known as SMS or smishing scams, have been on the rise in recent years. According to a BBB study, reports of phishing scams doubled from 2022-2023 and broke a record in 2024. They are the #2 most frequently reported scam to BBB of Upstate NY. BBB has also received reports of phony New York State toll collection notice text message scams in the past year. BBB reminds consumers not to engage with any suspicious messages like this. Any phishing message should be deleted and marked as spam. As a reminder, anyone who receives a scam message should report it using BBB Scam Tracker.
