AFP chief Brawner: No coup shall happen, not on my watch
Armed Forces of the Philippines chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. on Wednesday said there will be no coup d'état under his leadership amid speculations of internal unrest within the military.
In a statement, Brawner reaffirmed the 'unwavering commitment' of the organization to the Constitution and the chain of command.
'As long as I serve as Chief of Staff, no coup shall happen. Not on my watch. We will not be shaken by rumor, nor outmaneuvered by noise,' he said.
'Let me reassure our countrymen that the AFP remains strong, professional, and firmly loyal to the chain of command. We are a disciplined institution, grounded in respect for the Constitution, civilian authority, and the rule of law,' he added.
Brawner called out those who continue to stir discord and disinformation. He warned them of 'broader consequences' of undermining the AFP.
'To those who persist in creating instability, I offer this not as a rebuke, but as a reminder. Do not sow doubt among the very ranks that safeguard our democracy. Do not attempt to influence or mislead soldiers who serve quietly, honorably, and with steadfast loyalty to our Constitution and our country,' he said.
'Frustration is not a license to target your protectors. Attacking the Armed Forces with baseless narratives only threatens to weaken an institution that exists to defend us all,' he added.
Brawner encouraged the public to be discerning and differentiate real concerns from baseless speculations, especially about public institutions and national security.
'Let us not be adversaries in the same nation we all claim to love. Let us be better stewards of our words, platforms, and influence, because patriotism is not measured by how loudly we speak, but by how wisely we choose unity over division, and nation-building over disruption,' he said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News

Ukraine attacks Russian bomber planes with drones hidden in wooden sheds

Handout/ Security Service of Ukraine/ AFP KYIV — Ukrainian secret services were able to attack strategic bomber aircraft at Russian air bases on Sunday by hiding explosive-laden drones inside the roofs of wooden sheds, according to a Ukrainian security official and images posted online. The sheds were loaded onto trucks that were driven to the perimeter of the air bases. The roof panels of the sheds were lifted off by a remotely-activated mechanism, allowing the drones to fly out and begin their attack, the official said. The security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said strikes were conducted on Sunday on four air bases, and that a total of 41 Russian warplanes were hit. Reuters was not able to independently verify that assertion. Unverified video and pictures posted on Russian social media showed Russian strategic bombers on fire at the Belaya air base in the Irkutsk region of Siberia. Igor Kobzev, the regional governor, said there had been a drone attack on a military unit near the village of Sredny, which is near the Belaya base, though he did not specify what the target was. He said the drones had been launched from a truck. The Irkutsk region attack was the first time a drone assault had been mounted by Ukraine so far from the front lines, which are more than 4,300 km (2,670 miles) away. That is beyond the range of the long-range strike drones or ballistic missiles Ukraine has in its arsenal, so required a special scheme to get the drones close enough to the target. Photographs shared with Reuters by the Ukrainian security official showed dozens of short-range quadrocopter drones piled up in an industrial facility. The official said these were the same devices used in the attack. Other images shared by the official showed the wooden sheds with their metal roofing panels removed, and the drones sitting in the cavities between roof beams. Separate video posted on Russian Telegram channels, which has not been verified by Reuters, appeared to show matching sheds on the back of a truck. The roof panels can be seen lying on the ground next to the truck, and the video footage shows at least two drones rising out of the top of the sheds and flying off. The Russian online media outlet that posted the video, Baza, said in a caption that it was filmed in the district near the Belaya air base. The Irkutsk region air base hosts Tupolev Tu-22M supersonic long-range strategic bombers, a type of aircraft that has been used to launch missiles against targets in Ukraine. The operation was code-named "Spider's Web," according to the Ukrainian security official, and was personally overseen by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Vasyl Maliuk, head of the SBU domestic intelligence agency. If confirmed, the strikes would be the most damaging Ukrainian drone attack of the war, and would be a significant setback for Moscow. The source shared video footage shot from a drone, saying it showed one of the strikes. Teodoro, Brawner slam misleading report by Chinese ‘journalists'
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. on Saturday slammed a malicious and misleading report from what they are Chinese intelligence agents posing as journalists at a defense conference in Singapore. In a video shared by the Armed Forces of the Philippines on social media, Teodoro said the people claiming to be 'journalists' asked him if the Philippines is a proxy of the United States at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. 'Nung ako tinanong, nakipagsagutan ako ng matagal dahil tinanong nila sa akin kung tayo daw ay proxy lang daw ng America sabi ko 'hindi, hindi tayo proxy.' Natural Pilipino tayo, pero sila magnanakaw ng teritoryo e 'di nagsagutan na kami ng nag sagutan. Hindi pa nilalabas yun pero baliktarin na naman nila,' Teodoro said. (When I was asked if the Philippines is a proxy of the US, I answered 'no' because we are Filipinos. I had an argument with them. They're the ones stealing our territory. They have yet to release a story about it and they will again twist the narrative.) Teodoro and Brawner were attending the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, an event the defense secretary noted the absence of official delegates from Beijing. Palace: Sara Duterte impeachment trial beyond President Marcos' reach
The impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte is beyond the reach of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Friday. 'Maliwanag po ang sinabi ng Pangulo na sa simula po ay ayaw niya talaga po ng impeachment dahil maaaring mayroon pong ibang mga legal na pamamaraan para mapanagot ang dapat mapanagot. Pero ngayon po, ang Bise Presidente po ay impeached na, wala na po sa Pangulo ito,' Castro said during a Palace press briefing. (What the President said is clear from the very start. He does not favor impeachment because there may be other legal remedies to hold public officials accountable. But now that the Vice President is already impeached, this is out of the President's hands.) Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on February 5, with over 200 congressmen endorsing the complaint against her. She was accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes mainly over alleged misuse of around P612.5 million worth of confidential funds and threatening to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza, and the President's cousin and Speaker, Leyte First District Rep. Martin Romualdez. 'Iyon naman po ay kaniyang suggestion lang, kung maaari ay ayaw niya ng impeachment. Ang sabi po ng Pangulo, proseso,' Castro added. (What the President said is a mere suggestion. But he favors due process.) Further, Castro said that the President does not have the authority over any impeachment proceeding. 'The impeachment trial is not the business of the Executive. Hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo patungkol po diyan, pero sinabi po niya na dapat umandar ang proseso, irespeto ang due process,' Castro said. (The President won't meddle with the impeachment process, but the President also said the process should be followed, with respect to due process.) 'So, ito po ay nasa kamay na ng mga prosecutors, nasa kamay na po ng Senado. 'Pag sinabi po nating proseso, dapat sundin ang batas,' she added. Castro also said the ultimate judge of the public officials' performance, whether it is the Vice President, senators or the House prosecutors, is the people.
