Andy Robertson reveals talks over future but welcomes competition at Liverpool
The 31-year-old Scotland captain is entering the final year of his contract and last season was something of a mixed bag in terms of his form.
Having seen long-time team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold run down his deal in order to join Real Madrid, Robertson may face reduced playing time should the club's chase for the £45million-rated Cherries full-back be successful, as expected.
But the Scot remains positive about his future and the challenge ahead.
'We have discussed it, of course we have. We've had good discussions with me and the club but what the future holds I am not sure,' Robertson told Sky Sports News about his contract.
'I need a rest after a long season and then I look forward to pre-season, that's all my focus is, I can't look too far ahead. I never have done that so I am not going to start doing that now.
'I know the position I am in and I have only got a year left and a lot is getting spoken about and getting said but my full focus is on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids.
'Then I will try to come back in the best possible shape for pre-season and then we'll see what the future holds when these decisions come.'
On the potential arrival of Kerkez, a 21-year-old Hungary international, he added: 'The club have identified certain positions where they want to get new blood in, it looks like players we're linked to are all younger players and they are all exciting players as well.
'When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect competition and I have always faced that, everyone here has faced that in their own positions and I expect nothing less.
'I want the club to be ambitious, they are doing that and wherever we fit into that, if we're happy with our role, we stay and we do it and if not then I am sure there will be a few out the door as well but that's the nature of football.'

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono from River Plate in a £38.5million deal. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder, who became Argentina's youngest-ever player in a competitive match just last week, has signed a six-year contract that will officially begin on August 14 - the day he turns 18. Madrid triggered Mastantuono's £38.5m release clause, setting a new transfer record for River Plate, who developed the prodigious talent through their ranks. Already a regular for River Plate's first team over the past two seasons, Mastantuono made headlines when he became the youngest goalscorer in the fiercely contested Superclásico against Boca Juniors. His historic Argentina debut came in a World Cup qualifier against Chile, where he was introduced as a late substitute in a 1-0 win, making him the youngest player to ever represent the national side in a competitive fixture. Alexander-Arnold only decided his next move in March, but the revelation left many Liverpool fans wondering if he's been eyeing a switch to Spain for some time. Others were just impressed by his knowledge of the language without even living there. Ex-Scotland striker Oli McBurnie, however, couldn't help but share his own talents after being made aware of the right-back's first media address in Spain. He shared a video highlighting his own Spanish skills on social media, asking fans if he's mastered the language better than Alexander Arnold. McBurnie moved to the country last summer when he joined Las Palmas on a free transfer and has been fluent in Spanish for some time. A clip of him answering interview questions in Spanish resurfaced after the new Real Madrid signing's surprise press conference. 'This is so impressive' - Fans amazed as Oli McBurnie speaks in flawless Spanish just months after joining LaLiga One fan joked: "The fact that you did it after having inhaled helium makes yours more impressive." That comment was met with a number of laughing emojis from McBurnie himself. While another added: "Nailed the accent." McBurnie only netted three goals in La Liga last season, but he did register an assist in his first game against Real Madrid last August as Las Palmas held the giants to a 1-1 draw. But the former Sheffield United hitman won't have the chance to go head-to-head with Alexander-Arnold in the league next season after his team suffered relegation, finishing 19th in La Liga.
