A KILLER nurse's appeal case is set to begin as his family claims new evidence proves he's innocent.
Colin Norris was jailed for at least 30 years after being found guilty of injecting his elderly victims with deadly doses of insulin.

He was also done for trying to kill a fifth woman.
The Glaswegian was convicted in 2008 following a trial at Newcastle Crown Court over the deaths at two Leeds hospitals in 2002.
His victims included Ethel Hall, 86, Doris Ludlam, 80, and Bridget Bourke, 88, who all died at Leeds General Hospital.
Another victim, Irene Crooks, 79, passed away at St James's Hospital.
Norris was also convicted of attempting to kill Vera Wilby, 90, by the same method.
He has been serving a life sentence at HMP Frankland in County Durham.
Norris' case was referred to the Court of Appeal in 2021 after doubt was cast on the verdicts.
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) revealed "new expert evidence" had come to light because of new scientific developments and understanding.
His appeal will begin today with experts suggesting that the hypoglycaemia in four of the women - other than Mrs Hall - may be accounted for by natural causes.
Norris' mother, June Morrison, hopes justice will be served after a series of delays.

She said: "It took five years before his trial commenced, almost two years until his first appeal, ten years before the CCRC referred his conviction back to the courts and another four years before his appeal hearing.
"Now at long last, we hope justice will be done so he regains the freedom he should never have lost with his name cleared."

She is now imprisoned in unit four of the only purpose-built private prison in the UK - HMP Bronzefield. Now an enhanced prisoner, Letby is given £33 a week to spend in the prison canteen where regular prisoners are only given £19.80. Some prisoners are bumped down to basic status as a punishment, which gives them only £5.50 per week. All prisoners are given status reviews every 28 days, but Letby has retained her enhanced position throughout her time at HMP Bronzefiled. A source told the MailOnline that the killer nurse was upgraded because of fears that she may be attacked by other inmates. The source said: 'Lucy is reserved and very quiet, she isn't really a problem with staff. 'It grates with officers though - she's committed the worst crimes possible and here she is on the enhanced unit with all the benefits that come with it. Abreu worked at the famous prison HMP Wandsworth in London. Letby has been in police custody since November 2020 and was handed a 'whole life order' in August 2023. The inmate is the fourth woman in British history to be given no hope for parole after committing her string of chilling murders. Letby has been found to have targeted 17 babies whilst at large between June 2015 and June 2016. Her first confirmed victim was a boy born in June 2015, who, despite being born prematurely, was described as being "stable". Letby came on shift at 7.30pm that same day and, by 8.26pm, the boy's condition was "deteriorating rapidly". He died twenty minutes later after air was deliberately injected into his bloodstream. The killer nurse was arrested on July 3, 2018, and faced a three-year court battle before finally being jailed for life. She had been working at the Countess of Chester Hospital while at large. Despite her conviction, Letby insists that she is innocent and several high profile politicians have called for her case to be re-examined. Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt said that, although the victim's family must be at the 'forefront' of politician's minds, there is 'doubt on what actually happened'. He added: 'They are not conspiracy theories dredged up from far-flung reaches of the internet.' The former health secretary and Tory chancellor said that 14 paediatric specialists ruled that the deaths of the babies had been down to natural causes.

Officials revealed a suspect had been identified and that the case was being probed as "criminally negligent homicide". But Collin County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that a Grand Jury has issued a 'no-bill' in the case - meaning criminal charges will not be brought. Lucy's mum Jane Coates has now hit out at the "baffling" decision and said it was "beyond comprehension". She said the Grand Jury found the evidence did not meet the threshold for criminal proceedings. Jane, from Warrington, Cheshire, added: ""Although we have tried so hard to prepare for this moment, it is a brutal outcome to accept. "It is baffling and beyond comprehension to us, our families and friends, that there is to be no accountability for what happened to my daughter. Unlike Britain, in the US a Grand Jury of citizens meets to review evidence and decide whether to bring a prosecution. The hearings are conducted in secret, so details of who could have been charged have not been released. It previously emerged from a police report that five witnesses had been identified - including two children. Cops found the victims' body parts in Shiraishi's flat in the Japanese city of Zama, near Tokyo. One resident told The Japan Times in 2017: 'I thought it smelled like sewage. It was something I never smelled before.' Another neighbour said they noticed a 'nasty smell' coming from the flat. Nine dismembered bodies were found in three coolers and five large storage boxes inside the flat - dubbed the "house of horrors" by the media. The serial killer had discarded parts of his victims in the bin, which was collected with the recycled garbage. Please DM [direct message] me anytime." Prosecutors demanded the death penalty for Shiraishi, while his lawyers argued for a prison sentence, claiming his suicidal victims had consented to their deaths and that he should be charged with "murder with consent". They also called for his mental state to be assessed. But Shiraishi later disputed his own defence team's version of events, revealing he killed without the victims' consent. 435 people showed up to watch the 2020 verdict sentencing him to death - despite the court having only 16 public seats - Japan's public broadcaster NHK reported. The murders also prompted Twitter to change its rules to state users should not "promote or encourage suicide or self-harm". Shiraishi was hanged at the Tokyo Detention House in secrecy, with nothing revealed until the execution was done. Japan's Justice Minister Keisuke Suzuki, who ordered Shiraishi's execution, said on Friday that Shiraishi acted "for the genuinely selfish reason of satisfying his own sexual and financial desires", according to AFP. The case "caused great shock and anxiety to society", he said. Japan currently has 105 people on death row, Suzuki added. The country has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
