Coco Gauff speaks out on Aryna Sabalenka as tennis stars prepare to renew rivalry after French Open storm

Daily Mail7 hours ago

Coco Gauff has spoken out on her feud with fellow tennis powerhouse Aryna Sabalenka after the Belarusians controversial comments following the French Open.
Gauff defeated Sabalenka at Roland Garros, with the world's No 1 saying after the defeat that the loss had more to do with her own mistakes than the American's solid play.
Sabalenka faced major criticism in the public and later apologized to Gauff for her remarks, calling them unprofessional.
Now, on the eve of Wimbledon, and a day after the two were spotted filming a TikTok together on Centre Court, Gauff has spoken out on everything that went down after her French Open triumph.
Gauff did admit to wanting to hit back at Sabalenka, but held off after receiving the apology.
'I'm not the person that will fuel hate in the world,' Gauff said. 'I think people were taking it too far. ... It was just really targeting and saying a lot of things that I felt were not nice. I didn't want to fuel that more.'
'I preach love, I preach light. I just want us to be kumbaya, live happily, hakuna matata, and be happy here.'
Sabalenka also had the chance to set the record straight in front of the press for the first time since leaving France.
'We are good, we are friends. I hope the U.S. media can be easy on me right now.'
'I was just completely upset with myself, and emotions got over me. I just completely lost it.'
Sabalenka starts play at Wimbledon on Monday against Carson Branstine, while Gauff goes against Dayana Yastremska in first-round action on Tuesday.

Woman's Hour Weekend Woman's Hour: SEND, Christiane Amanpour, Self Esteem, Return of the bullet bra

The Department for Education has just released the latest figures that show another rise in the number of Education, Health and Care Plans, or EHCPs, in England. These are the legal documents that outline what support a child or young person with special educational needs and disabilities is entitled to. The BBC's education reporter Kate McGough, Jane Harris, vice chair of the Disabled Children's Partnership, and Jacquie Russell from West Sussex County Council joined Clare McDonnell. Christiane Amanpour has been at the forefront of international news for more than 40 years, reporting from all over the world as a journalist and war reporter as well as being CNN's Chief International Anchor, steering the helm of several programmes including CNN International's nightly interview programme Amanpour. She's now launched a podcast, Christiane Amanpour Presents: The Ex-Files with Jamie Rubin. It's a weekly foreign affairs show, co-hosted with Jamie, a former U.S. diplomat and Assistant Secretary of State and also her ex-husband. Christiane joined Clare to discuss. The musician, songwriter and actress, Rebecca Lucy Taylor, aka Self Esteem won the 2021 BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year Award and achieved a nomination for the Mercury Prize in 2022 with Prioritise Pleasure. More recently she has performed the lead role of Sally Bowles in the West End production of Cabaret. She talks to Anita Rani about her new album, A Complicated Woman, and performing on the Park Stage at Glastonbury this weekend. The bullet bra has made a recent return to the catwalk and to the cover of British Vogue, where singer Dua Lipa can be seen sporting a blush satin Miu Miu creation in the July issue. But will the silhouette, once favoured by Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, cut through to the high street? And what does that mean for the comfortable t-shirt bras that have been going strong since lockdown? Julia Hobbs, British Vogue's contributing senior fashion features editor has recently road-tested the bullet bra. She joins Clare to discuss the experience, along with Karolina Laskowska, a lingerie designer and the director of The Underpinnings Museum. Orlando Bloom embraces bachelor vibes in pajamas at Bezos wedding after THAT hangout with Sydney Sweeney

Orlando Bloom embraced his new single status by sporting pajamas during Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez 's wedding weekend in Venice. The newest bachelor in Hollywood looked relaxed as he lounged on a boat in Venice just shortly after it was revealed that he and his fiancée Katy Perry had called it quits after nine years together. Earlier in the day, the 48-year-old actor was pictured spending time with Sydney Sweeney, 27, as they enjoyed a romantic stroll through the Venetian city streets alongside Tom Brady. The day earlier, he attended the billionaire Amazon founder's lavish wedding celebration in Italy by himself — while his now-ex was busy touring in Australia. As he prepared to attend the Bezos' post-nuptials soirée, he was seen basking in the golden hour rays and lounging in polkadot pajamas. He left the black-and-white sleep shirt unbuttoned to reveal black tank top and several pendant necklaces on his neck, sporting matching Dolce & Gabbana polkadot PJs. He left his hair purposefully tousled and looked calm and stoic as he leaned back as he and several pals traveled via water taxi to the next celebrity congregation spot in the city. At one point, he was seen throwing up his hand into a 'hang loose' shaka sign before throwing his arm around a friend as they started moving forward. It comes just hours after he enjoyed a city stroll alongside Sydney Sweeney and NFL legend Tom Brady — both of whom recently sparked romance rumors while attending what has been helmed as the 'wedding of the century.' After jetting off to Venice for the week of celebrations, Bloom made unwanted headlines after he was spotted in the back of a Venetian water taxi with a woman on Thursday. It came just a short time after news that Bloom and his fiancée Perry, 40, had called off their engagement broke. The woman spotted enjoying an evening with the A-lister was later revealed to be Jamie Mizrahi, 36, who was actually a former stylist for Perry and Meghan Markle. Bloom was also spotted enjoying a Venetian brunch the following morning and sipping on cocktails poolside with celebrity pals Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Brady during a boys' day out — while Perry continued her tour in Australia. Meanwhile Sweeney — who sparked romance rumors with Tom Brady after they were spotted chatting at a bar — was reportedly the 'most sought after' celebrity in Venice. A source told MailOnline: 'Sydney apparently is the most sought-after person to be around at the Bezos wedding. 'Everyone wants to talk to her and every guy that has been in her presence has talked about how stunning she is in real life.' The Euphoria star looked ethereal for the wedding on Friday, clad in a dazzling pink dress which complemented her blonde locks. The festivities are set to continue on Saturday night as the A-listers will once again gather for a huge party, though some guests including Kim and Khloe Kardashian left early. Sweeney was one of a host of stars to put on their best glam for what has widely been dubbed 'the wedding of the century'.

Kyle Tucker slugs Cubs over Astros

June 29 - Kyle Tucker drilled a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, the third homer slugged by the Chicago Cubs in that frame en route to a 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game interleague series. Tucker finished 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs in his second game against his former club. He spent seven seasons with the Astros before his offseason trade to the Cubs, and he made his presence felt as Chicago set up a series rubber match with a dominant performance. A half-inning after Astros rookie Cam Smith, acquired as part of the package that landed Tucker in Chicago, smacked his second home run of the series, the Cubs responded resoundingly to the 2-1 deficit Smith created with his two-run shot off Cubs right-hander Colin Rea (5-3). Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (1-3) appeared to have steadied the ship following a rocky top of the first when he walked in a run and threw 27 pitches, including 18 for balls. McCullers threw 12 consecutive balls during one stretch in the first inning but retired the Cubs in order in the second and third, and returned for the fourth with a one-run lead in his possession. That lead was short-lived. Michael Busch and Nico Hoerner clubbed back-to-back homers off McCullers to push the Cubs to a 3-2 lead. McCullers, who retired eight consecutive batters after his bases-loaded walk to Busch resulted in a 1-0 deficit, did not escape the fourth. Ian Happ produced an RBI single that extended the lead to 4-2 and set the table for Tucker, who roped a first-pitch slider to right field. His 17th home run plated Reese McGuire and Happ and lifted the Cubs to a 7-2 lead. McCullers departed after Seiya Suzuki tripled to left-center, and allowed eight runs on seven hits and four walks with one strikeout over 3 1/3 innings. Suzuki (2-for-5) added his 22nd home run in the top of the eighth. Dansby Swanson went 3-for-4 with a walk. Busch finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Rea allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts over five innings. --Field Level Media
