KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The first game at the new Knoxville multi-use stadium is just two weeks out. As construction continues at Covenant Health Park, the Knoxville Smokies introduced three new mascots that you can see during baseball games this year.
'You'll notice they might look a little bit familiar, if you saw them on our social media campaign as well as all of our flyers around town,' Smokies Community Relations Manager Lindsey Archer said. 'We hosted a whole naming competition. We had almost 1,000 submissions for these mascot names.'

Meet Knox and Jackson, a father son duo whose names hold extra meaning.
'So we obviously have the main bear, the father of this duo, Knox, standing for Knoxville of course, Knox County which is representative of the community we now joining with this new stadium,' Archer said. 'Then the son of our duo is Jackson as we all know Covenant Health Park is located at 500 east Jackson Avenue. It is the location of our brand new home and it is just an iconic street that runs through the heart of the Old City.'

The original mascot of the Knoxville Smokies, Smokie Joe, also joins Knox and Jackson. Smokie Joe was the mascot at Bill Meyer Stadium, where the Smokies played their final game in Knoxville in 1999 prior to the move to Kodak.

Michigan State football falls out of the running for 3-star New Jersey cornerback

Michigan State football falls out of the running for 3-star New Jersey cornerback Michigan State football has been on the hunt, pursuing a cornerback from Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic in Xavier Jackson. The 3-star cornerback has been a top priority for the Spartans, with a commitment date on the horizon. Unfortunately for MSU, the pursuit of Jackson is off of the table, and now the team is going to be forced in going into a new direction. Jackson has announced that he has canceled his official visit to East Lansing for this weekend, and instead, he will be visiting North Carolina. This comes on the heels of official visits to Minnesota and Pittsburgh. This puts MSU in sort of a particular spot, not having a cornerback due to visit over the next two weekends, meaning that the Spartans will most likely identify new prospects in the coming day. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, 'Mr. October' linked up at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is known as one of the NFL's foremost baseball aficionados, and got to meet one of the best players in MLB history on Tuesday night. While the Kansas City Royals were systematically dismantled by the New York Yankees at Kauffman Stadium, Mahomes took an opportunity to get a picture with 'Mr. October' — Reggie Jackson. Jackson, who spent the first year of his MLB career with the then-Kansas City Athletics (in 1967, before the A's moved to Oakland in 1968), commemorated his encounter with Mahomes in a post to his official Twitter account on June 10: Though Jackson seems to have been rooting for the Yankees, Mahomes could be seen beaming with pride next to the legendary slugger, who won a total of five World Series championships during his illustrious 21-year career in Major League Baseball. Jackson's No. 44 and No. 9 jerseys are retired by the Yankees and Athletics, respectively.

Lamar Jackson lands low on the\nNFLPA's list of top 50 players in merchandise sales

Lamar Jackson lands low on the NFLPA's list of top 50 players in merchandise sales Lamar Jackson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and a two-time MVP, yet he landed at No. 18 on the NFLPA's Year-End Top 50 Player Sales List. The Ravens are must-see television thanks to Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, and the Super Bowl hopefuls are among the most popular teams in all of sports. Jackson is a two-time MVP and a dynamic offensive player, yet landed at No. 18 on the NFLPA's year-end Top 50 player sales list, which captures sales from March 1, 2024, to Feb. 28, 2025. Patrick Mahomes, Jayden Daniels, C.J. Stroud, Josh Allen, Aidan Hutchinson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Micah Parsons, and Justin Jefferson highlighted the top ten of the 50 players driving retail demand last season. The annual list is the only verified ranking of all officially licensed, NFL player-branded merchandise sold through online and traditional retail outlets, as reported by over 85 NFLPA licensees, including Fanatics, Outerstuff, Fathead, FOCO, and Funko. Licensed product categories included trading cards, men's, women's, and youth game jerseys, T-shirts and hoodies, backpacks, wall decals, pennants, collectible figurines, matted and framed photos, bobbleheads, plush, drinkware, pet products, and many more. 'Saquon had a perfect storm this season,' NFLPA vice president of consumer products and strategy Ben Ruiz said. 'He's a generational talent with individual star power and joined a team in free agency that a lot of people felt were on the cusp of a championship. He came in and delivered in spades.' According to Sportico, Barkley is the first running back to lead the list since former Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliot in 2017. Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts was No. 3 on the list, while Jackson was the only Baltimore player to make the list. Jackson and Hurts are among 19 quarterbacks on the list.
