He was booked along with a Hyderabad-based businessman for alleged corrupt practices in tender processes and payment clearance. The judge stated that considering the "nature and gravity of the offence" and the allegations against the accused, custodial interrogation was warranted to "unearth the conspiracy".
The judge remarked that the allegations levelled against the applicant cannot be brushed aside at this stage.
"There is no submission that the accused was falsely roped in or that the allegations are motivated or frivolous or that he has been framed with an oblique motive," said the judge.
The judge further noted that the material on record reveals that the officers of the FCI demanded bribes from private individuals to secure favourable orders in the ongoing tender process. The investigating officer has placed on record transcripts of telephone calls intercepted by the CBI, which indicate that the accused was a party to the conversation.
"The applicant was discussing the 'award' of the tender, as well as money to be paid to the 'general manager' for the award of the tender.
Moreover, another General Manager was apprehended while accepting a cash amount of Rs 20 lakh from the accused, Uma Maheshwar. There is prima facie evidence to indicate that the applicant was involved in accepting illegal gratification for securing a favourable outcome of tenders," the judge said.
According to the FIR, CBI received information indicating Kumar and another AGM, Srinivas Mylapalli, colluded with private persons to secure contracts and favourable tender results.

Two, including lawyer, arrested for running fake GST companies

New Delhi: Two men, including an advocate, were arrested for allegedly running a racket involving bogus GST firms and issuing fake bills to facilitate fraudulent GST settlements. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to police, the scam came to light when a resident of Sagarpur filed a complaint at the South West Delhi's cyber police station. "The complainant alleged that while applying for a GST registration using his PAN card, he discovered that two GST numbers had already been issued in his name without his knowledge or consent. These GST numbers were being used to operate different trading firms, and a SIM card had also been issued using his Aadhaar card. The complainant claimed that the firms were conducting high-value transactions, causing significant reputational and financial damage to him," DCP (South West) Amit Goel said. A case was registered, and an investigation was initiated. With these leads, a police team mounted technical surveillance and examined credentials linked to the fraudulent GST accounts. "Based on location tracking, raids were conducted in Panipat and adjoining areas of NCR, leading to the arrest of the first accused. During his interrogation, he revealed that he worked under an advocate based in Burari," the DCP added. Based on this, the police team traced the advocate, who had absconded to Kairana in Uttar Pradesh after learning about his associate's arrest. He was eventually tracked and arrested. "During the probe, cops found that genuine documents such as PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, rent agreements, SIMs, and email IDs were being misused to create fake GST firms. The accused would obtain firm details from associates in Delhi, who sold them the login credentials and supporting SIM cards for Rs 25,000–Rs 30,000 per firm," a senior police officer said. "Once in control of these credentials, the duo would update the mobile numbers and email addresses linked to the GST accounts and begin operating them. Using software, they generated and uploaded fake invoices to the GST portal." One of the arrested men is a 27-year-old from Panipat, Haryana, who studied up to Class 12 and worked with an advocate for seven years. He primarily handled the technical aspects, logging into the bogus GST accounts, changing credentials, and preparing the fake bills. His associate, a 45-year-old advocate from Burari, arranged the procurement of GST firms through hisnetwork and oversaw their operation.

Factory making fake diesel from chemicals smuggled via Gujarat's Kandla Port busted

Jaipur: Bikaner police Saturday unearthed a large-scale interstate operation involving the transportation and mixing of industrial chemicals with diesel, using bogus companies and forged documents to avoid detection. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The smuggling network, which operated from Kandla port in Gujarat, diverted tankers to a hidden factory running behind a hotel in Bikaner's Pallu area. Police officials said that the network was involved in transporting at least 25 tankers of fake diesel, each containing 35,000 litres, and pushing it into the market. Three men were arrested, including a resident of the Rainwal area in Jaipur district. Bikaner range IG Om Prakash said the accused were using fake firms like Nav Nath Chemical and Oil to prepare transport documents. Though the bills of supply falsely listed Hisar as the destination, the chemical-laden tankers were instead rerouted to the illicit facility concealed behind Mahadeo Hotel, which served as a front for a factory where chemicals were mixed with diesel to prepare diluted and illegal fuel. Police raided the location and seized 4 lakh litres of the adulterated fuel, along with one chemical tanker, pick-up vehicles, and a cash amount of Rs 3.55 lakh. The operation was found to be highly organised, with forged documents pointing to widespread distribution of the fake fuel across multiple states. The accused include tanker driver Banwari Lal, a resident of Rainwal in Jaipur, factory owner Netram, 26, from Rajiasar in Sriganganagar, and Pradeep, 43, from Hanumangarh. Investigators believe the gang was operating on a massive scale, transporting at least 25 tankers every month, each carrying around 35,000 litres of chemicals. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This points to a monthly smuggling volume of nearly 8.75 lakh litres of chemical used for fuel adulteration. Police suspect the racket could be linked to a recent major fire at a house in Sawalsar village, Rajiasar area. The fire was reportedly caused by an inflammable substance, and the connection to the smuggling ring is now under investigation. The IG warned that such fake and diluted diesel is being circulated widely and poses serious risks. He urged the public to purchase fuel only from authorised dealers and pumps to avoid potential hazards.

KSRTC's Davanagere division records uptick in digital payments

Davanagere: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation ( KSRTC ) achieved notable success in digital payments, collecting Rs 10 crore in eight months through its Davanagere division. This achievement follows KSRTC's intensified promotion of UPI payments since Nov 2024. The organisation aims to collect Rs 1 crore daily through digital means, targeting 50% of all transactions. Passengers embraced the QR code payment system for bus fares, despite initial technical difficulties. The digital payment implementation resolved issues related to small change, enhancing the travel experience and reducing conflicts between passengers and conductors. The Davanagere division also introduced UPI payments via smart electronic ticket machines (ETMs) in Nov. Travellers now complete transactions using applications like PhonePe and Google Pay. Digital payments are more prevalent on long-distance routes with reliable network coverage. Inter-district and interstate services show higher digital transaction rates when compared to urban and rural routes. From Nov 2024 to June 15, 2025, the division collected Rs 11 crore via UPI across its three depots: Davanagere Depot-1, Davanagere Depot-2, and Harihar Depot. Monthly collections increased steadily: November (Rs 29.2 lakh), December 2024 (Rs 1 crore), January 2025 (Rs 1.3 crore), February (Rs 1.5 crore), March (Rs 1.6 crore), April (Rs 1.8 crore), May (Rs 1.9 crore), and June (Rs 1.9 crore). The division manages 404 buses with 490 ETMs, including backup units. Occasional technical issues led to payment deductions without ticket issuance, causing disputes. The refund system improved, with reimbursements now processed within 48 hours, reduced from one week previously. Passengers are showing a preference for digital payments, and if a ticket is not printed, the amount is credited to their account within 24 hours. We solved some technical issues, and we are expecting more digital payments in our division, said Kiran Kumar Basapur, KSRTC divisional controller, Davanagere.
