Who are Mehakdeep and Sehajpal Singh?
Mehakdeep Singh, aged 24, and Sehajpal Singh, aged 26, are both from Tipton in the West Midlands.
They were part of a gang that carried out a "meticulously planned" and savage murder of DPD delivery driver Aurman Singh in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, on 21 August 2023.
The attack was far from random — evidence presented at their trial showed that the group used inside information from a contact at DPD to learn Aurman's delivery route.
On the day of the murder, they lay in wait for him on Berwick Avenue, Coton Hill, as he made deliveries.
When Aurman arrived, the group ambushed him with an arsenal of weapons.
Mehakdeep Singh wielded a hockey stick, while Sehajpal Singh used a shovel during the horrific assault.
'Calculated & brutal'
The attack was described by police as "calculated and brutal" — with the clear intention to kill.
Detective Sergeant Mat Crisp from West Mercia Police's Major Investigation Unit said: 'It was not a robbery that went wrong, it was planned and Aurman was their sole target.
'Following an incident the previous day that involved Aurman, the group used a contact to access inside information from his employer to learn Aurman's delivery route before lying in wait for him on a quiet Shropshire street.
'The group used an arsenal of weapons against Aurman, who was defenceless.
'There is no doubt in my mind what their intention was, and that was to kill him.'
"Exactly a year ago [on April 11, 2024] five men were sentenced to a combined total of 122 years for their part in Aurman's death, and today I am pleased a further two men have been given a 28-year prison sentence for their role in this senseless killing.
There are no words that could ever explain the impact this tragedy has had on me and my family
Family statement
Aurman, aged 23 and from Smethwick, was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the murder, Mehakdeep and Sehajpal Singh fled in a white Mercedes, which was later found abandoned in Shrewsbury.
They ordered a taxi to Shrewsbury railway station, took a train to Wolverhampton, then left the UK.
Traced and arrested
Following an international manhunt, Mehakdeep and Sehajpal Singh were traced and arrested in Hohenzell, Austria, on 20 May 2024.
On 31 March 2025, after a three-week trial at Stafford Crown Court, both Mehakdeep Singh and Sehajpal Singh were unanimously found guilty of murder by a jury.
On April 11, 2025, they were each sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 28 years before being considered for parole.
The judge described the murder as "meticulously planned and executed," emphasising that Aurman Singh was "completely unaware" and "defenceless" when attacked.
The police highlighted the use of inside information and the deliberate nature of the killing, stating there was "no doubt" the intention was to kill.
Aurman's family released a moving tribute after his death: "There are no words that could ever explain the impact this tragedy has had on me and my family.
"Today a mother will grow old without her son.

"A sister will grow up without her brother.
"We don't want what has happened to us to happen to another family.
"We would like to thank the police for conducting their investigation diligently and supporting us through this tough time."
Residents told of their horror after witnessing the aftermath of the brutal attack.
Back in August 2023, one told MailOnline: 'I saw four men, carrying a variety of weapons, jump into the Audi and two others get into the front of a white Mercedes.

'None of them looked as though they had stolen anything.
"They didn't seem to be carrying any parcels from the van.
"They just had weapons which looked to be a machete, baseball bat and what appeared to be some sort of shovel.
'The cars did a three-wheel turn and they sped off.
"One of the men shouted something before they escaped but I couldn't hear what they said."

Motive
The motive for the murder of Aurman Singh remains somewhat unclear.
Prosecutors told the court that the exact reason behind the murder could never be definitively established.
However, evidence presented during the trial suggested that the killing followed an incident at a kabaddi tournament in Derbyshire the day before the ambush.
It was suggested in court that the murder was an act of revenge for what happened at the tournament, but this was never confirmed
Mehakdeep and Sehajpal Singh were not the only ones convicted in connection with this murder.
Five other men had already been jailed for their roles, including four who received 28-year sentences for murder, plus the "inside man" from DPD who received 10 years for manslaughter.

CLOTHES belonging to a missing teenager have been found on a beach as cops continue to hunt for her. Serren Bennett, 18, disappeared on June 8 in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, with police becoming increasingly concerned for her safety. 2 A major search for the "vulnerable" youth was launched when she was reported missing but has so far failed to locate her. Now, cops have found clothing belonging to the missing 18-year-old at Redcar beach. The items of clothing have been confirmed to be Serren's by her family members, said Cleveland Police. Previous CCTV footage showed Serren walking towards Redcar beach alone at around 9pm. Serren's family is currently being supported by specially trained officers as enquiries continue. Serren is described as 5'6' tall with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a brown coat with fur on the hood, a black skirt, black tights and black shoes. Cleveland Police Superintendent Emily Harrison said: 'From CCTV, we can see Serren headed towards the beach alone on the evening of Sunday, June 8. "Clothing has been recovered from the beach which has been confirmed by family as belonging to Serren. 'We have no other missing people reported to us in this area. We have specialist officers supporting Serren's family and providing them with updates on police activity during this extremely difficult time. 'Our enquiries are now centred around the beach as we continue to do everything possible to locate Serren as quickly as we can.' Cops previously shared CCTV footage showing Serren leaving her home address. The 18-year-old was spotted by a CCTV camera heading to the De Brus Way area at around 7pm on June 8. She then appeared to make her way towards Redcar beach around two hours later. Cops have become more and more concerned for her welfare as the frantic hunt for the "vulnerable" teen reaches the seven day mark. The youth's disappearance was described as "out of character" for her. The force have re-issued an appeal for information that could help locate her, asking members of the public who may have seen Serren to come forward. Any members of the public who may have seen Serren have been asked to urgently contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting ref 105161. UK failed to identify disproportionate number of Asian men in 'grooming gangs', report says
LONDON, June 15 (Reuters) - British police will be ordered to record the ethnicity of gangs involved in organised child sexual abuse after a report on Monday detailed state failures to tackle the issue and a reluctance to recognise an "over-representation" of Asian men. For about 15 years, Britain has been shocked by revelations of so-called child "grooming gangs" exploiting thousands of children for sex, becoming one of the most contentious political issues amid findings that fears of being accused of racism had played a part in the failure of the authorities to intervene. Those on the political left have argued that far-right groups have used the issue to stigmatise entire Asian communities, while others say the ethnicity question has been ignored, often at the expense of the victims. The scandal returned to the spotlight this year after U.S. billionaire Elon Musk criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government over its stance, forcing him to commission a review by Louise Casey, a member of the House of Lords, into the scale and nature of the problem and who was responsible. The report found data from three areas showed "clear evidence of over-representation among suspects of Asian and Pakistani heritage men", but that ethnicity was not recorded in two-thirds of cases. "Despite reviews, reports and inquiries raising questions about men from Asian or Pakistani backgrounds grooming and sexually exploiting young white girls, the system has consistently failed to fully acknowledge this or collect accurate data so it can be examined effectively," the report said. The report found the questions about the ethnicity of those behind the abuse had "been dodged for years" and partly because of "fear of appearing racist, raising community tensions or causing community cohesion problems". Interior minister Yvette Cooper apologised to victims in parliament saying there had been "too much reliance on flawed data, too much denial, too little justice, too many criminals getting off, too many victims being let down". The government accepted all the recommendations of the report, including setting up a national inquiry into the grooming gangs after months of resistance. Opposition parties, including Nigel Farage's Reform UK and the Conservative Party, have accused the government of delaying its decision and failing the victims. To counter those accusations, the government announced that the policing agency that investigates serious crime would help track down the perpetrators of abuse. The police have already identified more than 800 cases for review, with the figure expected to rise to over 1,000 in the coming weeks, Cooper said. Cooper said survivors of the abuse had been ignored for too long and "blindness, ignorance, prejudice, defensiveness and even good but misdirected intentions all played a part in this collective failure".
