Rally to be held ahead of competency hearing for man accused of killing Belmont University student Jillian Ludwig
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Sunday, people will rally in honor of a Belmont University student who died after being shot while on a walk.
On November 7, 2023, 18-year-old Jillian Ludwig was shot while walking in the Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park. She later died from her injuries. Shaquille Taylor was taken into custody, and later indicted, in connection with the shooting.
The rally will happen just one day before the court decides if Taylor is competent to stand trial. Ludwig's family said they would never stop fighting for justice.

'We miss her. Her parents are inconsolable still,' Jillian's aunt and rally organizer Geri Wainwright said. 'It doesn't go away. It comes in waves.'
The peaceful rally will be at 2 p.m. outside the Davidson County courthouse. Wainwright said they hope the community will help advocate for Jillian and a safer Nashville.
'We believe that … his intent was to kill someone, whether it was Jill or not, and he needs to be held accountable for that,' Wainwright said.
Taylor had been prosecuted by the Nashville District Attorney's Office for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to an August 2021 incident. However, doctors did not find that Taylor met the standards for involuntary commitment and he was released from custody in May 2023.
'Anybody who can hold a job, have a girlfriend, lock and load a gun, have a drivers license, maintain any kind of adult standard of living — certainly can understand the difference between right and wrong,' Wainwright said.

Last year, the legislature passed 'Jillian's Law,' which requires any person deemed incompetent to stand trial to be entered into the National Instant Background Check System, prohibiting those in a name check database from buying firearms. The law also requires defendants to be admitted in appropriate treatment facilities.
Wainwright said Monday would be an emotional day for the family, but if Taylor is forced to stand trial, it's a step in the right direction.

MNPD: Driver found with stolen gun, drugs after leading high-speed chase on I-24
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 26-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after police said he drove at speeds of up to 110 mph Thursday night in an attempt to evade from officers. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers were in the area of Bell Road and Interstate 24 when they observed a Dodge Charger traveling 20 mph over the speed limit. Man robbed of $30K Rolex after meeting woman on Broadway, police say Law enforcement reportedly attempted to stop the car in the 700 block of Bell Road, but the driver refused to pull over. A police helicopter followed the Charger as it drove on I-24 West at speeds of 110 mph with no lights on in heavy traffic. Officials said the police helicopter crew relayed to ground units that the Charger got off the interstate and entered a Hermitage neighborhood. That's when officers successfully deployed spike strips, causing the driver to drive to a nearby Hickory Highlands Drive apartment complex. Once at the apartment complex, the helicopter crew advised that the driver got out of the vehicle and threw a backpack while running away from officers. The driver—identified as 26-year-old Luis Hernandez—was taken into custody a short time later. | READ MORE | In addition to the backpack found in Hernandez's path, police said they found a second backpack in the Charger. Both backpacks reportedly contained narcotics, including 337.2 grams of meth, 662.8 grams of marijuana, THC products, three digital scales, and plastic baggies. Police said a Glock .380 handgun, which was reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in Williamson County, was also recovered from the Charger. According to Metro police, Hernandez was free on a $27,000 bond from a February 2024 arrest for felony marijuana possession, evading arrest, and driving without a license. He reportedly had five outstanding warrants for failure to appear on those charges. Booking records show Hernandez now faces 18 different charges for Thursday's incident, including five counts of failure to appear, felony drug possession, reckless endangerment (motor vehicle), theft of a firearm, evading arrest, gun possession during the commission of a felony, and driving without a license. Man robbed of $30K Rolex after meeting woman on Broadway, police say
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman was taken into custody Thursday after she allegedly stole a $30,000 watch after being invited to a short-term rental in Nashville. According to arrest documents, officers were sent to a short-term rental in the 900 block of Southside Place on Thursday, June 12 to respond to a theft call. | READ MORE | The victim allegedly told police that he and friends met two women at a bar on Broadway and invited them to come back to where they were staying. Once they were at the short-term rental, the victim said he placed his Rolex Daytona, which has a value of $30,000, underneath his hat and went to bathroom. Police said the victim reported that when he came out of the bathroom, he observed a woman—identified as 24-year-old Audrey Schump—reach toward where his watch was located and leave the room. Schump reportedly fled from the short-term rental and the victim was able to give officers a description of her clothing. According to court documents, police later found Schump about 'a block and a half away' from the short-term rental. She was taken into custody and booked in Metro Jail. At some point during the booking process, authorities found the watch with Schump. Booking records show she was charged with felony theft over $10,000 and has since been released from jail.
