
Chhattisgath Additional SP among several cops injured in Sukma IED blast
An additional superintendent rank police officer was critically injured while several other personnel and officers also sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists went off in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday (June 9, 2025), said a police officer.
'Akash Rao Giripunje, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP)— Konta Division, District Sukma, has sustained serious injuries in a pressure IED blast near Dondra on Konta-Errabora road.
Additional SP Akash was on foot patrol duty in the area to prevent any kind of Naxalite incident in view of the call for Bharat Bandh on June 10 by the CPI (Maoist),'said the officer..
The officer added that other officers and jawans had also been injured in this pressure IED blast but did not specify their exact number. He further said that the other officers were out of danger.
'All the injured are being treated at Konta Hospital. Among the injured, the condition of Additional SP Akash Rao is said to be very serious and critical. The other injured are currently out of danger. Efforts are underway to transfer Additional SP Akash Rao to a higher medical centre for better treatment,' said the officer.

A police officer was killed and several others were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district early on Monday. Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Rao Giripunje, who was posted at Konta division, was patrolling with other personnel on the Konta-Aerobora road near Dronda when he accidentally stepped on a pressure IED believed to have been planted by Maoists, an official said. The patrolling was part of precautions taken ahead of the June 10 country-wide bandh call given by the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). The officer was rushed to Konta hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Other officers and jawans who were with him are under treatment and are said to be out of danger. This takes the total number of security personnel killed in Maoist-related incidents to 18 this year. The number of Maoists killed this year in encounters is 209 in Chhattisgarh, including 192 in the Bastar region.
