Every win matters in golf, but the ones tied to family often hit differently. For Patrick Reed, Sunday's breakthrough at LIV Golf Dallas wasn't just about lifting a trophy. It was about doing it with his daughter's putter in hand.
Additionally, his victory felt even more special, coming in his home state, and after 41 long starts without a single LIV Golf individual title. The moment was emotional, personal, but despite the celebration, one thing stung him.
Patrick Reed Admits One Thing He Doesn't Like Hearing After Dallas Win
On Sunday, Reed drained a 15-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole at Maridoe Golf Club to defeat Jinichiro Kozuma, Paul Casey, and Louis Oosthuizen. While the win was sweet, the reminder that it came in his 41st LIV start clearly stung the 34-year-old.
"I don't like hearing those numbers, that it took me 41 times just to win out here," Reed admitted in his post-round press conference.

"It took too long I felt like, but to check two things off and only win for the first time on LIV and also doing it in my home state means a lot."
He added, "You always deal with adversity throughout every tournament you play. It's just how you're going to respond and handle it. Luckily I was able to kind of right the ship today and get in a playoff and make that putt at the end."
Reed's final-round 75 nearly cost him the title after he squandered a five-shot lead. But he steadied himself with nine straight pars on the back nine, then delivered when it mattered most.
The win earned him $4 million from the $20 million individual purse. It also marked redemption after several near-misses—he had 11 top-5 finishes and five podiums since joining LIV in 2022.
Patrick Reed Eyes Royal Portrush Run After Win With Daughter's Putter
The family connection made Reed's first LIV Golf individual win even more meaningful. "I looked down at my putter, it's actually my daughter's putter, it's her head," Reed expressed afterwards. "It says the Windsor-Wells all over it."
"I looked down and I said, come on, honey, we've got to make one. For that putt to go in it meant a lot," he added.
Reed's victory also secured his spot at the Royal Portrush's Open Championship starting from July 17th. "I'm looking forward to Portrush,"he said. "Keep this momentum going, win there, and who knows, maybe go on a run."

He finished T3 at the Masters and T23 at the U.S. Open earlier this year, and now heads to Germany for the BMW International Open before teeing it up in Northern Ireland.
For Reed, the win was overdue. But with his daughter's name on the putter and his name back on a trophy, it was worth the wait.

WNBA star NaLyssa Smith 'sick to my stomach' after unexpected trade to Aces separates her from girlfriend

WNBA veteran NaLyssa Smith was traded by the Dallas Wings to the Las Vegas Aces, and she was clearly blindsided by the deal after reacting on social media. "Sick to my stomach dawg, never seen this coming but.. I love you Dallas nation, thank you 4 everything," she wrote on X after news of the trade came out. It was announced on Monday that the Aces acquired Smith, who has been struggling this year, for a 2027 first-round pick. The Wings have been struggling this year, owning a 1-11 record, and Smith hasn't fared well with her new team. She was averaging 6.7 points and 4.9 rebounds, both career lows, over 18 games. Smith was acquired by the Wings in an offseason trade with the Indiana Fever, as Dallas tried to build a better roster around Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale. Unfortunately, the moves did not pan out, and Dallas was quick to get assets back in return. It's also worth noting that Smith was playing alongside her girlfriend, DiJonai Carrington, who also joined the Wings this offseason. They were teammates previously at Baylor, and have had a relationship ever since. Carrington simply posted a broken-heart emoji on X when the news dropped, followed by a separate post with pictures of herself and Smith on and off the court. Smith, though, followed up her post explaining her shock with some positivity as she headed to Las Vegas. "On another note tho [sic] if I could've chose anywhere to go it would've been Vegas so hella excited 4 this new opportunity wit [sic] my goat," Smith wrote on X. While Smith didn't specifically say who she considers her "goat," it's a fair guess to say it's three-time WNBA MVP and two-time league champion A'ja Wilson, who leads the Aces in her eighth season since being taken No. 1 overall out of South Carolina in 2018. Meanwhile, Smith was the No. 2 overall pick by the Fever in 2022, where she made the WNBA All-Rookie first team after averaging 13.5 points and 7.9 rebounds over 30.7 minutes per game. She finished third in WNBA Rookie of the Year voting. For the first time in her career, Smith played less than 20 minutes with Dallas, but perhaps that will change now with Las Vegas. The Aces are currently seventh in the WNBA standings, and fifth in the Western Conference, with an 8-8 record to start the year. Smith's presumed first game with her new squad will be against her former team, as the Fever host the Aces on Thursday night in Indianapolis. (AP Photo/Julio Cortez) NEW YORK (AP) — Paige Bueckers will play in her first WNBA All-Star Game while Nneka Ogwumike has earned her 10th selection, the league announced Monday as it named the players who will join Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier as All-Star starters. Bueckers, who was the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Dallas Wings, will be the 10th rookie to start the game. It's the third straight season it's happened, with Clark getting a start last year and Aliyah Boston in 2013. Bueckers is ranked 11th in the league in scoring (18.4 points) and sixth in assists (5.8) to lead all rookies in both categories. She received the sixth most votes from the fans. Advertisement Ogwumike, who stars for Seattle, is tied for the third-most All-Star appearances with Tamika Catchings and Brittney Griner. She trails only Sue Bird (13) and Diana Taurasi (11). Clark and Collier were named captains of the teams on Sunday for receiving the most fan votes. The pair will draft their teams by choosing among the other starters as well as the 12 reserves chosen by coaches. The reserves will be announced this weekend. New York's Breanna Stewart and Las Vegas' A'ja Wilson each earned a seventh All-Star nod and will be in the starting lineup. Other starters selected Monday by a combination of fan, media and player voting included guards Allisha Gray of Atlanta and Sabrina Ionescu of New York. The frontcourt also will feature Phoenix's Satou Sabally and Boston, Clark's Indiana teammate. The starters were selected from across the WNBA without regard to conference affiliation. Players and a media panel joined fans in selecting the starters. Fans voting accounted for 50%, while the player and media votes each accounted for 25%. Advertisement Boston finished fewer than 1,400 votes behind Minnesota star Collier for second in the fan voting. While Clark finished first in the fan vote, she was ninth in the players' vote and third in the media voting for guards. Kelsey Mitchell of Indiana and Angel Reese of Chicago both just missed making the All-Star starters list, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, at their positions. The game will be played in Indianapolis on July 19. ___ AP WNBA:

FS1's Colin Cowherd Offers Absurd Micah Parsons 'Splash' Take

FS1's Colin Cowherd Offers Absurd Micah Parsons 'Splash' Take originally appeared on Athlon Sports. First it was Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will fire Brian Schottenheimer after one season, then it was Dallas would get humiliated every Sunday, and now FS1's Colin Cowherd is at it again. Advertisement This time, All-Pro Micah Parsons is in his crosshairs. And if we are being truthful here, this take is rather laughable. With Parsons looking at becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in football, Cowherd made it clear that he wouldn't concern himself with paying No. 11. "Once again, I like Micah Parsons, but he is a bit of a splash player, and he was in college," Cowherd said. "He'll make highlight plays, he'll beat really bad corners. Boom or bust was great for Jerry Jones in the oil business, it's not great for pass rushers." Ok, that's enough. Firstly, "beats bad corners," Mr. Cowherd? Micah plays defensive end. When does he beat corners? We assume you mean tackles, so if you are going to insult Micah, at least do it properly. Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons celebrates a sack against the Las Vegas Raiders at AT&T Miron-Imagn Images Secondly, is Micah a "splash" player? Advertisement We have seen all the quarterback pressure and quarterback hurry numbers throughout his career, and the consistent double teams to know that Parsons is anything but a "splash" player. And in college, Micah was an off-ball linebacker for Penn State, not a sack artist... so he really didn't "splash'' that way there. But if that wasn't bad enough, Colin gave his five players he would pay "whatever it takes," and Myles Garrett, Jared Verse, Maxx Crosby, Patrick Surtain II, and Chris Jones make his list. Garrett, Crosby, Surtain II, and Jones, we can understand given their high level of production, even if Micah has more sacks since 2021 than Maxx. But Verse? After one season, Cowherd would pay him over Micah? Advertisement Oh, stop it. Cowherd did say Parsons disappears in the playoffs, a criticism we get, but that doesn't diminish his overall value. Oh, and Colin also used Parsons' sacks against the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Panthers as a way to not pay him, stating he beats up the "little kids." What about the Philadelphia Eagles, Colin? In seven games, Micah has 5.0 sacks, eight quarterback hits, and six tackles for loss. That's passable, right? Seen as one of the best pass-rushers in football since he stepped onto the NFL field back in 2021, Micah is absolutely an edge rusher you pay. So the Cowboys are about to get "humiliated'' weekly. Advertisement And they should fire Schottenheimer. And they shouldn't pay Micah. Stop it, Mr. Cowherd, you're looking a bit silly now.
