What is Indian ePassport & is it mandatory for current passport holders to replace theirs with a new chip-based one?
NEW DELHI: The Government of India has introduced the ePassport which is a combined paper and electronic passport featuring an embedded RFID chip and antenna.
The chip securely stores the passport holder's personal and biometric data and is visually identified by a small gold-coloured symbol on the front cover.
With this rollout, India joins over 120 countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Japan, and Australia, in issuing biometric e-passports.
This move aligns India with ICAO international standards and represents a major step forward in enhancing national security and streamlining cross-border travel.
As global travel rebounds and border security becomes ever more critical, the ePassport equips Indian travellers with a safer, smoother experience abroad.
By adopting biometric technology, India underscores its commitment to digital innovation and positions itself at the forefront of modern identity management.

Until then, holders of regular passports do not need to replace them.

Ramaswamy had also put his hat in the ring for the US presidential polls but later withdrew from the race, despite backing from both Musk and Trump. As the two heavyweights locked horns on social media, Ramaswamy posted a photo carrying his two children — Karthik and Arjun — and wrote: "It's why we do it." The post had no connection with the MAGA crisis but was still met with vicious trolling. However, the comment section quickly turned hostile, with many users mocking Ramaswamy — some pointing out that 'Americans wear socks inside shoes,' likely referencing an earlier interview where he appeared barefoot. One user even asked Grok to change the background of the photo to a 'garbage-filled street in India.' "Why don't Americans deport this Indian?" one asked. "Is there a scientific reason as to why I find this photo repulsive?" a third user said. "Send him back to India... In the name of Jesus Christ," another wrote. "Do it in India," a hater said. Some X users pressed Ramaswamy to share his views on the Trump–Elon Musk feud, urging him to take a clear stand. While a few praised him for 'seeing it all much ahead of time,' others were curious about the extent of his falling out with Musk before he was shown the door at DOGE. They are now going ahead to demonstrate the real-world application of the numbers. Before the launch of the SUV, the automaker had revealed a clip of the vehicle climbing the elephant rock to demonstrate the AWD system. Now, it's the demonstration of its acceleration. Tata Motors has released a new video putting the through an acceleration test. The demonstration is done by the tablecloth challenge. The video begins by showing the electric SUV. Later on, it shows a table with various dishes on it, placed on a tablecloth. The EV then gets a launch from a dead stop, with one end of a rope tied to the vehicle and the other end to the tablecloth. With its fast acceleration, the vehicle manages to pull the tablecloth without disturbing the utensils. The feat became possible because of a dual motor setup consisting of a 155 hp front motor and a 234 hp rear motor. The max torque output stands at 504 Nm. Using this power, the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 6.3 seconds. It is to be noted that at the time of performing the task, the electric vehicle was in Boost Mode. Apart from that, it also has Sport, City, and Eco modes. Tata is available with two battery pack options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs. The bigger battery pack gives 627 km of claimed range. The brand claims that using a 120 kW DC fast charger, the EV can offer a range of up to 250 km within 15 minutes of plugging in. It can also go from 20 to 80 per cent in 25 minutes. All of this comes at a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
