Radha Yadav to replace injured Shuchi in India's squad for England series
Mumbai: All-rounder Radha Yadav will replace injured Shuchi Upadhyay in India's squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of England, starting later this month.
India will play five T20Is and three ODIs against England, who have a new captain and head coach in Nat Sciver-Brunt and Charlotte Edwards respectively.
"The Women's Selection Committee has named Radha Yadav as a replacement for Shuchi Upadhyay in Team India's squads for the England tour," the BCCI said in a statement.
"Shuchi was ruled out of the tour after sustaining a left shin injury, which was diagnosed during the pre-tour camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru," it added.
Shuchi was among the three newcomers along with Sree Charani and Kranti Goud to be named in the T20I side. She made her ODI debut against South Africa in the Women's Tri-Series last month which remains her only match in India colours.
India's squad announcement for the tour was headlined by Shafali Verma who made her comeback into India's T20I team. Though Shafali was only named for the T20I leg of the tour, pacer Sayali Satghare made it to both squads, adding some heft to India's fast bowling stocks, depleted due to Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu's injuries.
Shafali had been out of the national set-up after last year's T20 World Cup in the UAE, where India failed to enter the semi-finals. After strong showings in the domestic 20-over and 50-over matches, Shafali amassed 304 runs from nine innings with a strike rate of 152.76 for Delhi Capitals (DC) in WPL 2025 and finished in fourth place in the run-scorers charts.
That strong showing in this year's WPL has propelled the Neetu David-led selection committee to bring back Shafali into the shortest format scheme of things.
For the ODIs, barring Sayali's addition, the selectors retained the side which won the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, which featured South Africa as the third team. The three ODIs against England provide ample chances for India to fine-tune their combinations ahead of this year's ODI World Cup, to be held on their home soil in September-October.
India's five T20Is against England will be held at Trent Bridge, Bristol County Ground, The Oval, Old Trafford and Edgbaston from June 28 to July 12. The three ODIs between the two teams are slated to take place in Southampton, Lord's and Chester-le-Street from July 16-22.

Sourav Ganguly Slams Shreyas Iyer's Omission From India's Test Squad
Last Updated: Shreyas Iyer, who has 811 runs to his name in 14 Tests played so far, last played a five-day match for Team India in February 2024 against England in Vizag. The Indian men's cricket team will face England in a five-match Test series, which is set to start on June 20 in Leeds. The Ajit Agarkar-led senior India men's selection committee picked an 18-member squad for the first away series of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle last month, but in the team picked under Shubman Gill's leadership, there was no place for Shreyas Iyer. The 30-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai has been in red-hot form these days. He played all 17 matches of IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings and amassed a total of 604 runs. But despite his good form, Iyer was not considered for a place in the red-ball squad. Iyer's absence from the squad was questioned by many fans and former greats of the game, and now former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has also joined the bandwagon. According to the former left-handed batter, Iyer should have been in England simply because of his current form in all formats. 'He (Iyer) has been playing at his best in the last one year, and should have been in this team. The last one year has been fantastic for him. He isn't the player who got left out. He is now scoring under pressure, taking responsibility, and playing the short ball well. Although Test cricket's different, I would have had him in this series to see what he can do," Ganguly told RevSportz. Iyer, who scored a century for India on his Test debut against New Zealand in Kanpur (November 2021), last played a red-ball match for Team India in Visakhapatnam last year. He was dropped from the side due to form. After losing his place in the Test team, Iyer impressed with his batting performances in white-ball cricket. He was India's best batter in the Champions Trophy 2025, which the Rohit Sharma-led side won earlier this year with a 100% win record. Ganguly, who scored a century for India on his Test debut against England at Lord's in 1996, was also asked about India's chances in the series, and he said, 'Yes, sure. We just need two things: batting well and [Jasprit] Bumrah remaining fit. We won in Australia, in Melbourne (2020-21), with a young batting lineup, having no [Virat] Kohli, no Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli is a man of many talents. Predicting the future isn't one of them. Or is it? Fans started to double-check after Kohli's seven-year-old tweet on Aiden Markram resurfaced after the South African batter played one of the best knocks of his career to bring the Proteas inches closer to their maiden World Test Championship title and the first ICC trophy in nearly 30 years. The last time South Africa won an ICC tournament was back in 1998, lifting the inaugural Champions Trophy in Bangladesh. They still need 72 runs to beat Australia but with eight wickets in hand, including that of a rock-solid Markram, batting on 102, it looks ever so likely that South Africa will bring an end to their long wait for an ICC trophy. Kohli's admiration for South African batters is nothing new. Legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers is one of his best friends on and off the field. Of course, it helped that they played together for RCB for more than a decade, forming one of the most beautiful cross-border bonds that cricket has seen but it's no coincidence that Kohli's favourite captain is another South African, Faf du Plessis. During the all-captains meeting before the start of the 2019 ODI World Cup, Kohli was asked to pick one cricketer from any participating team in that World Cup that he would pick to play for his side, and he had no hesitation in naming du Plessis. It was therefore no surprise when RCB bought him in the auction and also named him captain after Kohli decided to step down in 2021. Markram is the latest addition to Kohli's fondness for South African batters. Markram, who made his Test and ODI debut in 2017, drew Kohli's attention a year later. He had already hit three Test centuries, but it was his 84-run knock in the second innings of the Test match at Cape Town against Australia that really caught Kohli's eye. "Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!" wrote Kohli on X (then Twitter). Seven years and three months later, the same tweet went viral when Markram put South Africa on the brink of the WTC title. In pursuit of 282, which currently stands as the second highest successful fourth innings chase in a Test at Lord's, an unbroken third-wicket stand of 143 took the Proteas to the close on 213 for two, requiring a further 69 to be crowned champions. Australia had earlier looked to hold the upper hand after Mitchell Starc's gritty half-century extended their overnight lead, while the seamer later took the two South African wickets to fall. But Markram, who will resume on 102, and Bavuma, dropped on two by Steve Smith, played brilliantly to raise South African hopes of a first ICC trophy since 1998. Markram survived a heart-in-mouth moment on 23, nicking a Cummins delivery between the keeper and first slip. Since then, the South African opener grew in confidence. Makram hit 11 fours in his fluent knock, scoring a strike rate of 102 off 159 balls. He got to his century with a flick off his pads that raced away to the boundary right at the fag end of Day 3. Did Kohli predict something like this for Aiden Markram? He certainly could not have but as they say, class is permanent and Kohli, like most other greats of the game, identified that very early.

Gill, Rahul score fifties in intra-squad practice match against India A ahead of England Test
Beckenham [UK], June 13 (ANI): Indian skipper Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were among the runs while Shardul Thakur delivered a solid performance with the ball on Day 1 of the intra-squad match between the Indian senior side and India A at Beckenham on Friday. The official X handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted some pictures from the match. 'Beckenham. A solid Opening Day in the Intra-Squad game! Half-centuries for KL Rahul & Captain Shubman Gill. Shardul Thakur amongst the wickets,' posted BCCI. KL Rahul had also slammed scores of 116 and 51 during the second unofficial Test against England Lions at Northampton. Gill, who has a poor average of 14.66 in England and has scored just 88 runs in six innings across three matches here with a best score of 28, will take plenty of confidence from his knock. Thakur, who scored knocks of 27 (in first unofficial Test) and 19 and 34 (in the second unofficial Test) against England Lions and also took two wickets against them, also got some valuable game time as he battles a young Nitish Kumar Reddy for the spot of a pace-bowling all-rounder in the team. India's first Test against England at Leeds from June 20 will mark the start of a new era under newly-appointed captain Shubman Gill, as he aims to lead a new-look team to glory following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Tests and Ravichandran Ashwin from international cricket. The series will be held from June to August 2025, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
