Rob Cross wins first darts match since being banned as company director over £450k in unpaid tax
Cross spoke to the media after his victory CROSS THE LINE Rob Cross wins first darts match since being banned as company director over £450k in unpaid tax Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ROB CROSS won his first darts match since his financial woes were made public. The 2018 world champion has been disqualified as a director for five years – until June 2030 – after his company failed to pay more than £450,000 in tax. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Rob Cross has won his first darts match since his financial woes were made public Credit: PA The Insolvency Service found that the Premier League Darts star withdrew more than £300,000 from Rob Cross Darts Limited between March 2020 and November 2023 that should have gone to creditors, including to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The world No.9 also took out more than £400,000 from Rob Cross Darts Limited – which was set up eight years ago to receive his earnings and prize money – in the form of a director's loan account by the time the company went into liquidation. In an attempt to repay part of his debts, Cross has entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA), a legally binding agreement where he has committed to making regular payments to an insolvency practitioner. Monthly contributions to the IVA will vary depending on the income he receives through his performances at darts tournaments during this year and future years. Rob Cross follows Luke Humphries with stunning nine-darter 'Andreas is very dangerous and has played great. I am happy to get over the line and keep pushing. Tomorrow it has to come together. 'To win this would be fantastic. I have had time off and some difficulties. But it would mean a lot to win it this week. 'Tonight could have been tougher with a few boos and whistles, it could have swung the game in his favour. 'We all feel it when the darts are flowing and the crowd gets on your back. I'm very appreciative of that. Darts is tough. 'It has been nice to be here. The weather was better than I expected. I thought it was going to rain. Scottish city to transform its skyline to become UK's 'mini New York'
Glasgow is set to grow taller with plans for new skyscrapers in Charing Cross, Anderston Quay, Trongate and Cowcaddens. Glasgow's skyline could soon rival that of New York as city chiefs unveil bold plans to welcome high-rise development and reshape the urban horizon. Already arranged in a grid pattern reminiscent of the Big Apple, Scotland's largest city now appears ready to grow upwards as confidently as it has grown outwards. A newly published Tall Building Designs Guide from Glasgow City Council pinpoints four strategic areas, Charing Cross, Anderston Quay, Trongate and Cowcaddens, as front-runners for future skyscraper schemes, Express reports. The move marks a decisive break from previous decades, when building heights were curbed well below those seen in comparable European cities. By relaxing those limits, planners hope to bring fresh energy, investment and people into the heart of Glasgow. At present, the city's tallest building is Buchanan Wharf in Tradeston, which rises to 80 metres and also holds the title of Scotland's tallest building. Yet even that landmark is dwarfed by the UK's loftiest structures, such as The Shard in London, soaring to nearly 310 metres, and Deansgate Square South Tower in Manchester at 201 metres. The tallest structure in Glasgow overall remains the Science Centre's Glasgow Tower, a 127-metre needle that can rotate a full 360 degrees, the highest fully revolving tower anywhere in the world. Council leaders say the new guidance reflects a 'significant' shift in strategy, aimed squarely at addressing the city's relatively low centre-city population density, which they argue has long hampered economic momentum. 'Glasgow is unique among Scottish cities in having the scope to build upwards,' officers note in the report. 'Shaped by this Tall Buildings guidance, it is confidently expected the city skyline will change, building towards the kind of city-centre population density that is commonplace in European cities, and the comparable lack of which is an acknowledged barrier to growth in the UK.' The document also presses for more mixed-use projects, encouraging developers to weave retail and leisure venues into ground floors to boost daytime buzz and evening footfall alike. Councillors on the City Administration Committee are due to vote on final approval soon, a decision likely to set the tone for Glasgow's skyline for decades. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for development and land use, framed the guidance as a cornerstone of wider ambitions to expand both population and prosperity. 'Tall buildings will play a significant role in our ambition to grow the city centre population, and encouraging major construction projects will be a boost for the local economy and employment,' he said. 'Having clear parameters of what we will support, and where, will give clarity to residents and assurances to those who wish to invest and develop in our city. "Glasgow is very much open for business, and if we want to see a thriving city, then we need to build it.'

Ikea has launched a huge summer sale with bargains from 50p
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IKEA has slashed prices in its huge summer sale - with some items scanning for as little as 50p. The retailer is offering hundreds of discounts on home essentials for a limited time only both online and in-store. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 A scented sweet pea is scanning for 50p Credit: IKEA 4 IKEA's Artificial potted plant is also available for the same price Credit: IKEA Everything from soft furnishings to larger items such as wardrobes have been discounted, and free click-and-collect is also available. You can find your closest store by using the store locator on the website where you will also find the opening times. We spotted a Fejka artificial hanging potted plant that was reduced from £1 to 50p, a saving of 50% on the original price. Punters can make the same eye-popping saving for a sweet pea scented candle, a set of 15 cable ties and an eye-catching dish cloth. Customers can dig a little deeper into their pockets if they fancy a discounted mobile phone holder scanning for £1. A pack of two bamboo coasters are also selling for a quid, as is a smart black cable organiser bag. BRANCHING OUT It comes after IKEA opened its first hotel in Spain, on a very popular holiday island. Las Dunas de Santa Catalina Boutique House is a new two-star hotel owned by the interiors brand to open on Gran Canaria. Don't expect to see any of the iconic blue and yellow designs, however. I did a haul of the new Oxford Street Ikea whilst on my lunch break & I managed to kit out with bargains under £3 The modern hotel, which has adult-only rooms, is more muted in its interiors. A small outdoor swimming pool is lined with sunloungers and overlooked by the hotel restaurant. And outdoor garden terrace is right by the restaurant as well, which serves breakfast. The only nod to the logo colours are in the bedroom, with some having blue or yellow bedspreads. Rooms range from double and triple rooms to ones that have pool or garden views. SHUT UP SHOP However, it's not all good news for fans of the Swedish conglomerate. The famous Swedish homewares retailer has confirmed the Plan and Order point at the Stockport Merseyway Shopping Centre will cease in just a fortnight's time on June 16. The store in Greater Manchester is a smaller outlet than its usual out-of-town locations and is focused on kitchen, bedroom and living room planning. The aim was to provide somewhere for customers to go to get advice and expertise on home furnishing and somewhere where they could design their ideal fittings and get individual 3D interior plans from the interior designers. According to IKEA, the decision to close the store permanently was made due to 'a result of valuable learnings' where the company recognised their customers wanted a different retail experience, more along the lines of Click and Collect and return services. While the Stockport branch will close for good, other Plan and Order points, such as the ones in Dundee, York and Hull, will be adapted to meet those new demands and also include a small range of home furnishing accessories to buy. 4 Punters can nab a tealight holder for only 50p Credit: IKEA
