Dangerous Android Apps Can Steal Your Data, Delete Them Right Away

Android apps are easy to target for the hackers and Google finds it hard to trace and filter them out from the Play Store.
Android apps with dangerous intent often manage to bypass Google's strict security checks and once again you have a slew of apps targeting users looking to steal their money and data. More than 20 apps with malicious content have come through Google's check to get listed on the Play Store and users are being warned about their risks and told to delete them right away.
Cryptocurrency apps have mushroomed in the last few years and many people get enticed with their supposed quick money policies. The bad actors are using their malicious apps disguised as wallet apps for the digital currency that people need to be careful about. These details have been shared by Cyble Research and Intelligence Labs (CRIL) that has discovered the malicious apps on the Play Store.
The security firm claims that if any user has installed these dangerous apps, they could be prompted to enter the confidential 12-digit recovery key for the wallet, which allows the hackers to fully control their digital wallets and even transfer the money into their accounts without raising an alarm.

These apps are listed on the Play Store and if you have installed any of these, we highly advise you to delete/uninstall them right away. Also, make sure you don't sign up to hand over important passwords and passkeys to access these accounts.
You should also set up two-factor security so that people cannot isolate the account access. Google always suggests its users to install these apps from genuine sources like the Play Store and not click on links for apps from unknown senders.
Incidents of data theft with crypto wallets have increased in recent times, and the CRIL security warning is a clear sign of how hackers are modifying their targets and mode of attacks.
AI is another big tool that hackers are deploying to build sophisticated attacks but most people just need to be smart and careful about how and where they source these apps for their devices.

The tech giant is releasing updated Application Programming Interfaces so that developers can begin adapting their apps ahead of the release of the new design later this year. The company said that it is also making new additions of Apple Intelligence to its operating system, including Live Translation. Image Playground is also getting a new feature boost with the incorporation of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Apple will also let users learn more about what's on their iPhone screens with the help of Visual Intelligence. Users can search about images on their iPhones across Google, Etsy, and other supported apps. Google says there's a new phone scam by a dangerous hacker group called UNC6040 . These hackers don't hack your phone directly, they trick you into giving access by pretending to be someone trustworthy. This scam started months ago and is still happening, so you have to be careful now, as per reports. It doesn't matter if you have an Android or iPhone, both are at risk. The attack is called vishing, and it's getting worse because people don't take it seriously. UNC6040 calls employees pretending to be IT support, and asks them to install fake Salesforce apps like a fake 'Data Loader', as stated by the report by Forbes Once the fake app is installed, they get into the system and steal sensitive data, then spread into other connected cloud services. They are targeting companies in industries like hospitality, retail, and education in the U.S. and Europe. These attackers are in it for money, and sometimes another group helps make money from stolen data months after the attack, as per Google Threat Intelligence Group . Google found signs that UNC6040 might be linked to a cybercrime group called The Com. The Com is a group of hackers who hang out on Telegram and Discord, sharing tips and bragging about their crimes. They use the same tricks, like pretending to be IT, stealing login info like Okta credentials, and mainly target English-speaking users at global companies. But Google says they're not sure if UNC6040 and The Com are directly working together, they could just be using the same methods. Live Events FBI joins the warning The FBI has also warned about a separate but similar phone scam happening since April 2025. Scammers send texts and AI-generated voice messages, pretending to be important U.S. officials to steal personal data and online accounts. The method includes smishing, vishing, and spear phishing that move the victim to another platform where malware or fake sites are sent. FBI accounts like FBI Cleveland and FBI Nashville, and New York State Police, posted this warning on X and other sites. Google's safety tips to stop attacks 1.
