This Affordable Product Can Make Your Nails Stronger
If you're new to at-home nail care and nail art, you might not know that one of the best ways to protect your nails is also one of the easiest — and most affordable. Applying cuticle oil, also called nail oil, to your cuticles and nail beds at least once a day can be the difference between strong, healthy nails and brittle, broken ones.
Take it from an expert: 'Cuticle oil is essential for maintaining healthy nails because it provides extra hydration which nourishes the nails and promotes stronger, healthier nail growth,' says Mazz Hanna, CEO of Nailing Hollywood, a California-based agency that represents nail artists. 'Keeping your cuticles hydrated also prevents the surrounding skin and cuticles from splitting or peeling. This is especially beneficial if you tend to pick at your nails, as well-hydrated nails leave little to pick at.'There are plenty of options on the market, so '[w]hen shopping for cuticle oil, prioritize natural, hydrating, and nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil, vitamin E, and essential oils,' Hanna explained. 'Avoid any harsh chemicals, cuticle oil should be mostly made up of natural ingredients ... Lavender is a great addition to cuticle oil because its natural antimicrobial properties help prevent bacterial and fungal infections in nails.'
Even if those ingredients sound fancy, though, that luckily doesn't mean they're expensive. In fact, I've rounded up some of the best cuticle oils you can buy on the Internet, and most of them don't even crack $10.
A popular nail oil with over 23,000 5-star ratings on Amazon
After four weeks of of using this cuticle oil — which is formulated with naturally light oils like jojoba, vitamin E, rice bran, and sweet almond — you'll begin to notice less peeling, splitting, and breakage, according to the brand. Reviewers can't get enough of how strong their nails have become while using this oil, and you might have to see it to believe it, thanks to the reviews with images that show just how well this works.Promising review: "As I got older my nails started to split from the tip to the nail bed. Growing up I never had this problem and I missed having natural long nails. I started coating my nails with the product at night while watching TV. The results were pretty quick. I have not had a split nail since I started using the product. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with an applicator. I used a small cheap paint brush I had at home. There really isn't a scent to the product either, which I like. I will continue to use the product every couple of days now that the nails no longer split." —GigiKDKGet it from Amazon for $9.90+ (available in three sizes).

It also promises a concentrated formula, but isn't overwhelming, according to reviewers who laud the non-oily feel and subtle scent.Promising review: "I kid you not, this right here is a holy grail. I don't take time to write Amazon reviews, but when I saw the results this gave me I just had to. My toe nails and finger nails are more hydrated by using this just one day than they've been in months. My toe nails especially, were super dry, I had pretty much given up on them, and so I tried this product when I got it, and the next day they looked SO healthy, I was blown away. Just WOW. It smells great and has tea tree oil, which has antibacterial properties, so it' not just hydrating, but protects you nail. New Strategy to Manage Childhood Obesity
Obesity is increasingly considered unpreventable, making early and aggressive treatment a priority to minimize comorbidities. Although 30% of adult obesity begins in childhood, the most effective treatments for childhood obesity — medication and surgery — are often delayed in favor of diet and exercise, which are largely ineffective. In this ReCAP, Dr Janey Pratt, director of the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford, California, points to a recent Cochrane database systematic review which showed school-based diet and exercise interventions did not prevent or reduce childhood obesity. She goes on to explain the most recent American Academy of Pediatrics Clinical Practice Guidelines which, for the first time, recommend that treatment, rather than watchful waiting, is indicated for childhood obesity. Dr Pratt explains that FDA-approved obesity medications are an option for children as young as age 12, but surgery often has better long-term results. She outlines the medications available to treat childhood obesity, and then the 10-year outcomes of the Teen-LABS study, which show that half of adolescents who underwent bariatric surgery for obesity maintained significant weight loss. She concludes that a strategy of surgery first, followed by medication if needed, can optimize childhood obesity management and avoid lifelong medication for some patients.

Do you have an ‘office chair butt'? Here's what workers who ‘refuse to fall victim' are doing about it
What's droopy, floppy and sagging around the office? No, it's not your crabby boss — it's your flabby butt. Sitting on one's backside for hours on end, slouched in a seat while staring at a computer screen, is flattening once-rounded heinies. 'I refuse to fall victim,' swore Krystina, a NYC-based content creator, warding off the wicked woes of 'office chair butt.' Advertisement 4 Folks online are worried about contracting the dreaded 'office chair butt' while on their jobs. Andrey Popov – Despite its social media-given nickname, the aforementioned curse is a legitimate plague on patooties — more formally known as atrophy of the gluteal muscle group — caused by chronic sitting, according to the Cleveland Clinic. And yes, it's as bad for your booty as it sounds. Advertisement 'A lack of conditioning in your gluteus maximus and surrounding tissue leads to weakness, making it build up fat tissue and appear flatter or saggy,' explained Michael Milicia, an occupational therapist, in a recent report for the clinic. The doc noted that the actual chair a hireling sits in is not to blame for his or her beleaguered bottom. Instead, the true culprit is their lack of movement while on the clock. 'Sitting too long without breaks isn't particularly good for anything,' Milicia said. Advertisement And his butt advisory is right on the nose. Researchers from Beijing, China, recently reconfirmed the cautionary adage, 'sitting is the new smoking,' finding that employees — namely office workers — are at a high risk of experiencing severe neck pain. 4 Investigators have found that sitting for long periods of time can trigger body aches and neck pains. Kittiphan – Kristianne Egbert, a board-certified professional ergonomist, issued a similar warning to The Post, saying, 'holding any one posture for an extended period — whether sitting or standing — can take a toll on your body.' Advertisement 'Static positions cause muscles to tense, slow blood flow and lead to fatigue,' she added. Still, most 9-to-5ers, especially those who've been called to return the office for long-stretch shifts, are forced to park their hind parts in uncomfortable chairs in cramped cubicles for at least five days per week. 4 Experts warn that constant sitting can cause one's buns to become flabby, saggy, flat and squishy. AS/ – The bootylicious online, however, are working their butts to the bone with mid-day exercises, hoping the avoid the ills of office chair atrophy. 'Me every 30 minutes when I find out what office chair butt is,' Haike, a TikTok user, wrote in the closed-captions of a clip that featured her doing knee-lifts at her desk, running up and down a flight of stairs and doing laps around a conference room in her workplace. Loba, an internet influencer from Chicago, stepped away from her workspace to hit a series of squats after catching a shocking glimpse of her flap-jack fanny. And Nikki, a well-endowed diva, lead her team of fellow employees, comprised of both men and women, in executing several repetitions of lunges, squats, leg-lifts and stair climbs, vowing in her vid, 'No office chair butt for us.' Advertisement 4 Squats, leg exercises and butt clenches are all recommended for counteracting the flattening effects of office chair butt, per Cleveland Clinic. T Mdlungu/ – For a Beyonce-like behind, Milica recommends slaying those exercises and more every day, suggesting folks, 'get up and move every 30 to 90 minutes, as your job allows.' Here are a few derrière-improving workouts to help you avoid looking like you've got pancakes in your work pants. Standing while taking a phone call Placing your filing cabinet or other equipment you use during the day a few feet away from your desk Walking to a colleague's office for a face-to-face talk, rather than sending an email Inviting co-workers for a walking meeting Taking the stairs rather than the elevator Choosing a restroom that's a little farther away Switching to a sit-stand desk Try a walking pad under your desk Butt clenches Marching in place Heel lifts Toe lifts Ankle circles Squeezing a ball (or your fists or other prop) between your legs Trying to hold your knees apart while pushing them together when your hands

Meharry Medical College to expand into Memphis, partners with Mississippi Boulevard church
Meharry Medical College is set to expand into Memphis with a new medical training facility. The historically Black, Nashville-based medical school announced the formation of its 'Office of Memphis Programs' at a ribbon-cutting on June 9. The new program will be housed on the planned 23-acre mixed-use campus of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in the Medical District and will support students during clinical training. 'I see this as a wonderful opportunity to turn the tide on and bring about better health care outcomes in the city of Memphis,' said Rev. Jason Turner of Mississippi Boulevard church. The expansion is part of Meharry's long-term goal of building a second campus in Memphis, said CEO and president James Hildreth. The college often has to send students to hospitals out of state because major hospitals in Nashville have commitments to training students from other schools. 'One of the things that the branch campus in Memphis will do for us is to allow us to have two major training sites and not have to send our students to so many places,' he said. The new facility will feature classrooms, faculty offices and a student lounge. The quality of education will be the same as at the main campus in Nashville, Hildreth said, but it will lay the foundation for a branch campus and keep medical students in Tennessee. Memphis has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the country and struggles with obesity and diabetes, Hildreth said. He said Meharry plans to focus on the burden of chronic diseases in the city. 'Memphis is a place where we can have a huge impact,' Hildreth said. In April, Meharry acquired four medical clinics in Memphis. A Meharry alumnus, Dr. Joseph Walker, founded Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in 1921. He was its first pastor. 'It's serendipitous that their Office of Memphis Programs would be housed in the church that he founded 104 years ago,' Turner said.
