Bayern hope new Musiala injury not serious after last 16 reached

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany and Jamal Musiala stand together after the FIFA Club World Cup Group C soccer match between Bayern Munich and Boca Juniors at the Hard Rock Stadium. Sven Hoppe/dpa Bayern Munich are once again fretting over star playmaker Jamal Musiala, who limped off in the 2-1 Club World Cup win over Boca Juniors on Friday. Bayern's progression to the last 16 was marred by the Germany international, who had only just returned from a hamstring problem, going off with an apparent calf injury. Advertisement The 22-year-old came on as a second-half substitute but only lasted 25 minutes. "I definitely want to speak to the doctors first," coach Vincent Kompany told reporters. "We're flying to Orlando first and then we will know more." Kompany said he spoke briefly with Musiala after the match. "I hope it's nothing serious," the coach said, adding that he was "reasonably relaxed, although I don't know what the doctors will say." After the final whistle, Musiala still joined his team-mates in celebrating with the Bayern fans in the stands. Musiala had been sidelined for two months ahead of the Club World Cup. Advertisement Following his spectacular three-goal comeback as a substitute in the 10-0 win against Auckland City, he was supposed to gain more match practice against Boca Juniors to be ready for the starting line-up in the knockout phase. This plan now looks in jeopardy. Bayern face second-placed Benfica in the final group stage match in Charlotte on Tuesday to determine the Group C winner.

Italian sources, including Tuttosport and Gazzetta, claim that Stefan de Vrij will get the nod in central defence, replacing Francesco Acerbi, while Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni are confirmed in a three-man defence. Federico Dimarco and Carlos Augusto battle for a starting spot on the left flank and the same is true of Nicola Zalewski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the middle of the park. Advertisement If Zalewski starts, then the Inter line-up will likely be a 3-4-2-1 formation with the Poland international joining Pio Esposito behind the lone striker Lautaro Martinez. Inter vs Urawa Red Diamonds – where to watch on TV The best way to live stream the Club World Cup is with DAZN, which is offering a free service this summer, which can also be upgraded to a premium service. DAZN's free offer means ads during games, and no replays or extended highlights, but it's still a pretty tempting deal that will surely get Blues fans and others signing up quickly. Inter vs Urawa Red Diamonds – probable line-ups Inter (3-4-2-1): Sommer, Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Luis Henrique, Barella, Asllani, Dimarco (Carlos Augusto); Zalewski (Mkhitaryan), Pio Esposito; Lautaro. Brazil expresses interest in hosting 2029 Club World Cup

Brazil has expressed its interest in hosting the 2029 men's Club World Cup. A statement from the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) said that its newly-elected president, Sami Xaud, held a meeting with his FIFA counterpart, Gianni Infantino, on Friday where the idea was discussed. The ongoing Club World Cup is taking place in the United States and The Athletic reported in December that FIFA was considering hosting the tournament in the same location in four years. Advertisement Meanwhile, James Johnson, Football Australia's chief executive, told the Sydney Morning Herald in June 2023 that his country would consider bidding for the 2029 hosting rights. Reports from Africa have also quoted the Moroccan FA (FRMF) chief Fouzi Lekjaa as saying his nation, alongside Spain and Portugal, would want to host the tournament a year before they act as co-hosts for the men's World Cup. 'It all started with an introductory conversation,' Xaud said, via the CBF website. 'I spoke about my goals as head of the CBF and said that we want to be closer to FIFA. I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs and, finally, I made the country available to host the next World Cup. 'President Gianni Infantino was very happy and said that it was totally possible. Now we're going to work to make it happen. It's going to be a great goal.' The meeting, the CBF said, took place at the FIFA Executive Football Summit 2025 in Miami. Xaud, meanwhile, was elected as CBF president in May, replacing Ednaldo Rodrigues who was removed from the position after a court ruling in Brazil. Brazil has four of South America's six clubs competing at the 2025 Club World Cup, in Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo qualifying as the respective winners of the Copa Libertadores from 2021 to 2025. The Brazilian Serie A runs from March to December but has paused for a month due to the Club World Cup. (Photo of Flamengo celebrating at the Club World Cup,)
