Report: Projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg will only work out with Mavericks
Player of the Year Cooper Flagg will reportedly only work out with the Dallas Mavericks before the 2025 NBA draft, according to Shams Charania and Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Flagg is set to visit the Mavericks in Dallas on June 17 for a private workout and to meet with team personnel. The organization has indicated publicly and privately that it intends to select Flagg and has no plans to target any other prospect with the No. 1 pick on June 25.
The Mavericks have the first pick in the draft for only the second time in franchise history. After previously trading franchise cornerstone Luka Dončić, the Mavericks are expected to find their next once-in-a-generation player in Flagg.
Flagg led Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be named a consensus first-team All-American.
Jason Kidd said last month that he believes the Mavericks are a great situation for Flagg, with their mixture of established veterans and up-and-coming players. He believes Flagg will be able to step in and make an immediate contribution.
Flagg has drawn comparisons to former Duke legend and Hall of Famer Grant Hill because of his size, athleticism and ability to affect games in various ways. Former coach Mike Krzyzewski even called him the best freshman to ever play with the Blue Devils.

Spurs Showing Interest in Mavericks Coach
Spurs Showing Interest in Mavericks Coach originally appeared on Athlon Sports. DALLAS - The New York Knicks have expressed their interest in hiring Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd to fill their void at the position after the firing of Tom Thibodeau. Advertisement It is unclear as to whether the Mavericks will grant permission for Kidd to be interviewed at this time. However, the San Antonio Spurs have also expressed interest in a member of the Mavericks coaching team to join the staff of new head coach Mitch Johnson. A national media outlet recently reported that they have interest in Sean Sweeney to fill the top assistant role under Johnson. Sweeney has long been considered as the catalyst for the defensive improvements that the Mavericks showed during their run to the Western Conference Finals in 2021 and the NBA Finals in 2024. Sweeney has come a long way from coordinating film review for the Brooklyn Nets to now being considered as the top assistant for an up-and-coming team. He also spent three season as an assistant with the Detroit Pistons, and prior to that, he spent four years as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks. Advertisement Sweeney spent his collegiate career primarily as a starting guard for the University of St. Thomas (Saint Paul). New head coach Mitch Johnson, filling the big chair now that Gregg Popovich is moving permanently to the front office, will be looking to add trusted advisors to his staff as he takes on his first stint as a head coach. in the NBA. Sweeney has served Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd for several years, and could flourish in this role, should the Spurs decide to close a deal with him in this offseason. Report: Nets may trade Cam Johnson and 19th pick to get Lottery pick
The Brooklyn Nets came away from the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery hoping to get the first overall pick that would allow them to take Duke forward Cooper Flagg to begin their rebuild with a hot start. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, they came away from the Lottery with the eighth overall pick, but it looks like they are trying to take the Draft into their own hands. Per NetsDaily on Wednesday via X, the Nets "may want to move up from #19 to the lottery, offering CamJ and #19 to Raptors or Rockets for either Raps 9th or Rockets 10th plus a bad contract." Since the Lottery passed, there has been consistent reporting alluding to the possibility of Brooklyn trying to shake things up by either using their best pick to move up or by getting another Lottery pick. Advertisement "That would give Nets two picks in top 10 (presupposing neither team would need picks for Giannis trade.)," NetsDaily's post continued. Nets forward Cam Johnson has been consistently brought up in trade rumors ever since last offseason when the Nets began their rebuild by trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks in exchange for draft picks, but it seems like these reports about Brooklyn and the Draft are increasing in frequency. Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported in May that "there is a sentiment around the league the Nets could look to land a second lottery pick by consolidating and packaging some combination of Johnson, those picks at the end of the first round and/or future draft capital." This report followed one by NBA insider Jake Fischer in which the belief among rival teams is that the Nets are going to attempt to trade up in the Draft. When it comes to the term "bad contract," it will be interesting to see what that means for either the Toronto Raptors, who have the ninth overall pick, or the Houston Rockets, who have the 10th overall pick. Johnson, who is slated to make $20.5 million for the 2025-26 season, could potentially get Brooklyn someone like center Jakob Poeltl or forward RJ Barrett from the Raptors or players like forwards Jabari Smith Jr. or Dillon Brooks from the Rockets. A 20-game win streak? Billerica boys' lacrosse built for a trip to Division 2 semifinals
Billerica's set defense was nearly impenetrable with Caden Canney, Daniel Kinsella, and senior captain AJ Parrella holding down the back line in front of junior goalie Nolan Heffernan (8 saves). Walpole (17-4) came in averaging over 13 goals per game, but could never get rolling, with five of its six goals coming unassisted. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up 'We knew defensively, we had to minimize their guys and did a really good job on that end,' said Parrella, 'It was just a really good team win.' Advertisement When Walpole started to chip away at a 6-2 halftime deficit in the third quarter, Gearin provided the response. The electric middie, who missed the majority of the season with a broken tibia, scored three times in the frame and provided the first four goals for his squad in the second half to keep the Wolves at bay. Gearin also provided an early spark with three assists in the first quarter. Advertisement '[Gearin has] been itching to go,' said Nickerson. 'He had some pent up energy and tonight was a big release for him. We knew it would be a good matchup for him against their defense, but I didn't think it would be this good. He was awesome tonight.' Division 1 Lincoln-Sudbury 14, Concord-Carlisle 5 — With a decisive third-quarter surge, the third-seeded Lincoln-Sudbury boys' lacrosse team pulled away from No. 6 Concord-Carlisle quarterfinal. Junior Brady Malo paced Lincoln-Sudbury (15-4) with three goals, and seniors Rex Friedholm, Nolan Martindale, and Will Fosnot added two apiece. 'Our seniors really stepped up today,' Lincoln-Sudbury coach Brian Vona said. Lincoln-Sudbury built a 3-2 edge through one quarter and 6-3 halftime advantage after a slick behind-the-back pass from Friedholm to Malo in the final seconds. The Harvard-bound Friedholm dictated the action throughout the night, and senior Dante Venuto was sharp at the face-off X. Senior Jason Swaim (3 goals) helped the Patriots (17-4) stay within striking distance, then Fosnot spearheaded a 6-2 third quarter for Lincoln-Sudbury to make it 12-5. The Patriots made some noise in the fourth, but the outcome had already been sealed. After quarterfinal exits each of the past two seasons, the Warriors are back in familiar territory. They'll face No. 2 St. John's Prep in the semifinals Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burlington High. 'I've never been to a Final Four game,' Friedholm said. 'A lot of these guys have never been. We were dying, we were dying. We were just clawing, scratching, everything we needed to do.' Division 2 State Advertisement Westwood 9, Longmeadow 8 — Senior Troy Fredrickson fired in the winner with 2:15 remaining (and assisted on another) to propel the 10th-seeded Wolverines (16-4) to the first semifinal appearance in program history. 'Today is one of the best days of my life,' an ecstatic coach Todd Zahurak said after the win. While there's not a singular star on the roster, 'we have a bunch of 'A' players that nobody really knows about,' said Zahurak. Junior attackman Sam Cochran had a trio of goals and classmate Jaden Pollack had 12 saves as the Wolverines completed a nearly 200-mile trip to upset No. 2 Longmeadow (17-4). Zahurak credited his defense, including junior Ryan Williams and senior Kyle Harvey for keeping a solid Longmeadow attack off the board. 'This group just really believes in each other, and they play for each other,' said Zahurak. Corresponents Lenny Rowe and Chloe Wojtanik contributed. Nate Weitzer can be reached at
