"Recently, I've developed a renewed respect for some of our philosophical foundations, and I don't limit this to any particular religion. It's a term that Nitin (Gadkari) ji used: maulik soch – the power of original thought,' said former diplomat and Rajya Sabha MP
Pavan K Varma
at the launch of his latest book,
Echoes of Eternity
: A Journey Through Indian Thought from the Rigveda to the Present .
Reflecting on his writing journey, tracing it back to his first book – a biography of Mirza Ghalib, Varma said, 'I make no special claim of authority in writing this book. My first work was a biography of Mirza Ghalib, which began as a personal quest to better understand someone I regard as one of the greatest poets of all time. From there, my writing expanded to a broad spectrum of subjects, including Krishna, the Indian middle class, and being Indian.' He was joined at the event by
Nitin Gadkari
, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, and Shashi Tharoor for a discussion on the book.

Gadkari praised the book for encapsulating the spirit of Indian civilisation and commended Varma for distilling the wisdom of centuries into a thoughtful narrative. 'There's no trace of self-assertion in his tone ki ' Main ye keh raha hoon' , instead, he has analysed various ideologies, from the Rigveda to modern thinkers, and presented a deeply refined synthesis of ideas,' Gadkari remarked.
Tharoor reflected on his shared intellectual journey with Varma through the vast landscape of Indian philosophy. 'We both recognise that there is much to value in our civilisational legacy — embracing differences, celebrating diversity, and acknowledging the many paths to truth. Unfortunately, some who lay claim to this legacy have chosen to overlook that plurality,' said Tharoor.

LOP's desperation over Congress losses on display: BJP

NEW DELHI: Top BJP functionaries including party president J P Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday reacted vehemently to Congress member Rahul Gandhi's latest claim questioning the Maharashtra assembly polls, saying that the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha was reflecting his desperation after his party's losses and the looming one in Bihar assembly polls. "Rahul Gandhi's latest article is a blueprint for manufacturing fake narratives, owing to his sadness and desperation of losing election after election," said Nadda in response to Gandhi's article which appeared in a national daily on Saturday. Citing factors that "doomed" Congress in recent polls, Nadda said Congress gets defeated election after election due to his (Rahul Gandhi's) antics. "Instead of introspecting, he cooks up bizarre conspiracies and cries rigging. Ignores all facts and data. Defames institutions with zero proof and hopes for headlines over facts," the BJP president said in a post on X. Nadda said despite being exposed time and again, Rahul shamelessly keeps peddling lies. "And, he is doing this because a defeat in Bihar is certain," he said adding that democracy doesn't need drama but truth. Pradhan said Rahul Gandhi's post on Maharashtra elections is nothing more than a predictable script-lose elections, discredit institutions, fabricate conspiracies, and portray himself as a victim of an imaginary system. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 신차장기렌트 첫달 렌트료 전액지원해드립니다. 신차장기렌트센터 더 알아보기 Undo "But India's democracy is far stronger than the insecurities of a dynast who refuses to accept repeated electoral verdicts," Pradhan, a prominent OBC face of BJP, said. He said it there's any rigging Rahul should be worried about, it's the kind his own party mastered for decades-from Emergency to misusing Article 356 over 90 times to dismiss opposition govts. "Let's not forget, this is the same Rahul Gandhi who falsely claimed in Cambridge that Indian democracy is 'dead', yet participates in elections, campaigns freely, and blames EVMs only when he loses," the senior BJP functionary said.

BJP names Kanad for RS seat, AGP likely to announce nominee soon

1 2 3 Guwahati: The BJP on Saturday named Kanad Purkayastha, son of former Union minister and BJP Assam co-founder Kabindra Purkayastha, as their Rajya Sabha candidate. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced certainty about NDA winning both Rajya Sabha seats, which become vacant this month when current members Birendra Prasad Baishya (AGP) and Mission Ranjan Das (BJP) complete their terms on June 14. Of Assam's seven Rajya Sabha seats, BJP currently holds four, while AGP, UPPL, and an Independent member occupy one each. Nominations close on June 9, with scrutiny scheduled for June 10. Polling will be held on June 19, followed by vote counting that evening. BJP's alliance partner, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), is set to announce their candidate shortly. Despite multiple contenders from both senior and junior ranks, long-standing member Birendra Prasad Baishya remains the likely choice, according to party insiders. Himanta highlighted Barak Valley's significance in BJP's Assam growth, predicting 10-11 BJP victories from the region's 14 seats in the 2026 assembly election. "Kanad Purkayastha has been nominated by BJP for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election. Perhaps AGP will also announce the name of its candidate. We are hopeful of winning both the seats from Assam," Sarma said. Upon reaching Guwahati, Kanad expressed his desire to support the chief minister's vision for Assam's development. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Orlando: How Much Does It Cost To Install Windows In 2025? Former Damdami Taksal spokesperson questions narrative on June 6 Ardas and Jathedar appointment

Amritsar: A war of words has erupted within Sikh religious circles after the Akal Takht's officiating Jathedar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, was accused of bypassing a long-standing tradition by not delivering the customary June 6 'sandesh' — a formal message to the Sikh community on the anniversary of Operation Bluestar , a 1984 military operation to smoke out holed up terrorists from the Golden Temple. Former Damdami Taksal spokesperson Sarchand Singh has pushed back against attempts by the Akal Takht secretariat and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to suggest that Giani Gargaj's 'sandesh' was embedded within his 'Ardas' (prayer), arguing that this kind of claims reflect a basic misunderstanding of Sikh religious practice. "An Ardas is a humble supplication to the Guru; a 'sandesh' is a directive message to the 'quom' (community)," Sarchand Singh said. "There was nothing new or directive in this year's Ardas compared to previous commemorations. To equate the two is misleading." The criticism follows mounting scrutiny over Giani Gargaj's role and legitimacy. Sarchand Singh expressed dismay that Gargaj — who was declared 'tankhaiya' (guilty of religious misconduct) by the Panj Pyare at Takht Patna Sahib — was given a 'Siropa' (robe of honour) reportedly at the Akal Takht, despite Sikh tradition dictating that a 'tankhaiya' must first complete prescribed penance and receive formal absolution before being honoured at any Takht. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? The controversy also reignites long-standing debates over the SGPC's authority to appoint Jathedars. While acknowledging that the SGPC holds administrative power over Takht appointments, Taksal's former spokesperson asserted that this kind of decisions lacked spiritual legitimacy unless endorsed by broader Sikh institutions. He said: "The identity of the Panth cannot be upheld if Sikh sects, Nihang groups, and Sabha societies are excluded from the process. Jathedars are being appointed like SGPC employees, diminishing the stature and sanctity of these positions. The dispute highlights deeper fissures within Sikh religious governance, raising fresh questions about accountability, tradition, and the role of representative consent in decisions affecting the global Sikh community.
