Dassault CEO trashes Pakistan's claims on downing Rafale jets
Dassault Aviation Chairman and CEO Eric Trappier has dismissed as "factually incorrect" Pakistan's claims about having shot down three Rafale fighter jets of the Indian Air Force during Operation Sindoor.
In an interview to French magazine Challenges, Trappier said: "What Pakistan is claiming about downing three Rafales is simply not true."
He made it clear that Dassault, the French company that manufactures the Rafale, has received no official communication from the Indian Air Force indicating any such losses. "What we already know is that what the Pakistanis are saying about destroying three Rafale planes is inaccurate," Trappier said.
"When the complete details are known, the reality may surprise many," he added.
In the interview just ahead of the Paris Air Show, Trappier highlighted the formidable reputation of the Rafale as a premier multirole fighter jet. "If you want a single aircraft capable of air-to-air combat, reconnaissance, ground strikes, nuclear deterrence, and aircraft carrier deployment, Rafale is unmatched," he asserted.
While acknowledging the stealth advantage of the American F-22, he maintained that the Rafale is superior to the F-35 in real-world versatility and performance. "It's far better than anything China currently offers," he contended.
India has already denied that any of its fighter jets were destroyed during Operation Sindoor, which had successfully demolished terror infrastructure with precision bombing deep inside Pakistan territory. This was followed by missile attacks that caused considerable damage to key bases of the Pakistani Air Force.
Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif had earlier claimed that Pakistani forces downed five Indian aircraft, including three Rafales, and captured Indian soldiers during a retaliatory attack following India's airstrikes during Operation Sindoor. However, it has not released any evidence to support these claims.
Defence analysts have dismissed the Pakistani narrative as sheer propaganda, which is in tune with the country's playbook, as has been the experience in the past.
India had launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in which 26 tourists were massacred.

PM Modi has shown India's blood not meant to be shed: Amit Shah in Lucknow
India retaliated with surgical strike, air strike and razed the headquarters of terrorists to the ground whenever Pakistan tried to attack or carry out terror activities in the country during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in the past 11 years, Union home minister Amit Shah said in Lucknow on Sunday. Addressing a public gathering, Shah said the prime minister has sent a strong message to Pakistan that India's blood is not meant to be shed, and whoever does dare (to do so) will be punished for it. He mentioned Operation Sindoor which targeted and destroyed terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir in May after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Shah was in the Uttar Pradesh capital to attend the ceremony to hand over appointment letters to 60,244 newly selected police constables. He handed over appointment letters to 15 candidates during the event and congratulated all those selected. Shah attacked the Congress for not being able to curb terrorist attacks across the country during the UPA-led years before 2014. 'Terrorist attacks used to happen every day under Congress rule – Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Delhi, and don't even mention Kashmir. Pakistan received a strong retaliation when it tried to attack India thrice during PM Modi's rule. After the Uri attack, they faced a surgical strike. After Pulwama, they faced an air strike, and after Pahalgam, the headquarters of terrorists were razed to the ground with Operation Sindoor. PM Modi sent a message to the whole country that India's blood is not meant to be shed and whoever dares to do this will be punished,' Shah said during the programme. He also referred to the promise of eradicating Naxalism by March 31, 2026. Shah spoke about how, in 11 years of the Modi government, the spread of Naxalism has been reduced from over 11 states to just three districts. 'Don't forget my words that the country will be free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026,' he said. Operation Sindoor was a response by India to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in April. The attack killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 with the Indian armed forces carrying out targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Meanwhile, in Chhattisgarh and its border areas, security forces have been carrying out multiple operations in which various Naxal leaders have been killed in the recent months. On May 21, an encounter in the forests of the Boter village resulted in the elimination of 27 Naxals. The two most high-profile cases in the recent months have been the neutralisation of CPI (Maoist) general secretary and politburo member Basavaraju alias Gaganna and also Central Committee member Gautam (alias Sudhakar) and Bhaskar. According to government data, there has been a 53% drop in the incidents of Naxal violence over the last 10 years between 2014 and 2024, compared to the decade before. Between 2004 and 2014, the data mentions, there were 16,463 incidents of Naxal violence. However, from 2014 to 2024, the number dropped to 7,744. As per the officials in the security establishment, the reduction in Naxal violence reflects 'the success of intensified counter-insurgency operations and strategic policies by security forces.' Besides chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the other notable persons present on the occasion were deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, UP BJP president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh, ministers Suresh Khanna, Swatantra Dev Singh, Surya Pratap Shahi, Baby Rani Maurya, Ashish Patel, Om Prakash Rajbhar, chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, DGP Rajeev Krishna and principal secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, among others.

'I don't think that's what allies do': In Greenland, Macron hits out at Trump's takeover threat
Macron has voiced strong opposition to Donald Trump's threats to take over Greenland, during a visit to the Arctic territory's capital. His trip marks the first by a foreign leader since Trump expressed interest in annexing the region. read more French President Emmanuel Macron gestures after a meeting with European leaders on Ukraine and European security at the Elysee Palace in Paris, France. File image/Reuters French President Emmanuel Macron has criticised Donald Trump's threats to take over Greenland during a visit to the capital of the Danish autonomous territory. Macron is the first foreign leader to visit Greenland since Trump publicly expressed interest in annexing it. 'I don't think that's what allies do,' Macron said, highlighting the shift in the United States' approach to its allies since Trump left office. He reaffirmed 'France's and the EU's solidarity' with Greenland on his way to a summit of G7 leaders in Canada. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Macron said, 'It's important that Denmark and the Europeans commit themselves to this territory, where the strategic stakes are very high and whose territorial integrity must be respected.' Former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said the US needs Greenland for national security, given its strategic location between the Atlantic and the Arctic. He has not ruled out the use of force to acquire it. However, polls show that most of Greenland's 57,000 residents want independence from Denmark—but not to become part of the US. Denmark has made it clear that 'Greenland is not for sale' and that only Greenlanders can determine their future. Macron's six-hour visit was described by his office as 'a signal in itself.' It came at the request of both Denmark and Greenland. He began the trip with talks aboard a Danish naval frigate with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen. He was also scheduled to visit a glacier to witness the effects of climate change and to discuss how Greenland could be included in EU development efforts while respecting its sovereignty. A planned visit to a hydroelectric plant was cancelled.
