Man Utd linked with fairytale transfer as they scout Cristiano Ronaldo Jr's Portugal debut amid shock Tottenham interest

The Sun13-05-2025

A MANCHESTER UNITED scout saw Cristiano Ronaldo Jr make his Portugal Under-15 debut as a raft of top clubs sent representatives to the match.
The 14-year-old son of the legendary former Red Devils No7 was cheered onto the pitch when he came off the bench in a 4-1 win over Japan's Under-15s on Tuesday.

Wearing the same number his father wore with distinction during two spells at Old Trafford, Ronaldo Jr gave a few brief glimpses of his talent during a second-half run-out at the Vlatko Markovic tournament in Croatia.
Ruben Amorim 's staff will add the scout's report to their file on the youngster, who could earn a start in one of Portugal's remaining matches against Greece or England.
United will already know plenty from the 14 months Ronaldo Jr spent at their academy.
He played alongside Wayne Rooney's son, Kai, in the youth set-up when his father returned for an ill-fated second stint under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag.
The Europa League finalists were among several high-profile clubs to send scouts to the match.
United's Bilbao opponents Tottenham were in attendance with up to 10 Bundesliga clubs also rumoured to be represented in the crowd.
Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti report that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Red Bull Salzburg, Inter Milan, Juventus and Atalanta sent spies to cover the game.
The Portuguese players caught the eye with their superior technique and tactical appreciation, running out easy winners over the Japanese kids.
Braga forward Rafael Cabral was the star of the match and stole Cristiano Jr's thunder by bagging a hat-trick before he stepped out onto the pitch.
The 14-year-old honed his ball skills by playing futsal from an early age while his mobility allows him to operate just as effectively from the wings as he does from the middle.
He is Braga's top scorer in the youth league with 13 goals this season and leads a seven-strong contingent from the club in Portugal's squad, which contains no players from the traditional powers of Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

Thomas Tuchel unhappy with lack of quality in England win against Andorra

Harry Kane finally gave the 6,950 travelling fans something to cheer about when he broke the deadlock early in the second half, turning in lively Noni Madueke's cross, but the expected goals onslaught did not follow. 'I am not happy with the performance, of course,' German coach Tuchel said on ITV1. 'But we lost completely the momentum and couldn't get it back through the whole of the first half. 'We got a little bit of it back in the first 15 minutes of the second half and then ended up in a period which was by far not good enough – lack of urgency, lack of quality and lack of energy.' England play a friendly against Senegal in Nottingham on Tuesday night and Tuchel is expecting a much-improved display. 'We can just admit it that it's not what we expect from us and we need to do better,' the England boss added. 'We need a bit of time to look at it in detail and address it clearly and directly to be better on Tuesday.' Tuchel was also not happy with how England finished the match. 'We have to play until the 93rd minute. I didn't like the lack of urgency in the end,' he said. 'It did not match the occasion at all, it is still a qualifier away from home, I didn't like it at all. This time last year, Lily was sat up here cheering me on and she was there with me tonight when it got tough, when it got hard."From round eight, I thought, 'I've got to dig deep, I've got to keep pushing, I've got to do it for her'.
