Two men arrested for alleged drug transaction in Liberty County
LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – An alleged drug transaction in the parking lot of a Bristol gas station resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Both had serious felony charges, including trafficking in oxycodone.
At approximately 12:50 p.m., Sheriff Arnold pulled into the Marathon Gas Station in Bristol and parked beside a Ford F-150. He witnessed the driver, later identified as Matthew Johnston Langdale, who exited the store and signaled to the driver of a gold Chevrolet truck.
The second individual was later identified as Jeffrey Atkins. Authorities said he exited his vehicle carrying a large orange prescription pill bottle and entered Langdale's truck.
From a nearby vantage point, Arnold said he observed and recorded the transaction. Atkins was seen counting money while Langdale handled what appeared to be a pill bottle.
Atkins then exited the truck holding both cash and the pill bottle, authorities wrote.
Arnold stated he acted swiftly, preventing both individuals from fleeing, and immediately requested backup.
A search of Langdale's vehicle by an investigator uncovered a white pill bottle containing a significant quantity of pills, consistent with oxycodone.
The weight of the seized narcotics exceeded 25 grams.
Both suspects were taken into custody.
Atkins is facing charges of trafficking in oxycodone and sale of a controlled substance (hydrocodone).
Langdale is facing charges of trafficking in oxycodone over 25 grams and possession of a controlled substance.
