Online seller of fake driver's licenses, PWD IDs nabbed in Valenzuela City — ACG
The Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police arrested an individual in Valenzuela City for selling fake driver's licenses and person with disability (PWD) IDs.
At a press conference on Thursday, ACG chief Police Brigadier General Bernard Yang said an entrapment operation was launched against the suspect last week.
'Last week po, tayo ay nagsagawa ng entrapment operation laban sa isang babae doon sa Valenzuela City kung saan ito ay nagbebenta online ng driver's license, at hindi lang driver's license, kundi yung ID ng PWD,' Yang said.
(Last week, we conducted an entrapment operation against a woman in Valenzuela City who was selling not only driver's licenses but also PWD IDs.)
'Ito ay dahil sa patuloy ang aming pagsasagawa ng cyber-patrolling at nakikita po natin kung ano-ano ang binibenta roon, mga panloloko ng ating kababayan sa ating kapwa kababayan din,' he added.
(This is because we continue to conduct cyber-patrolling and we see what is being sold there, frauds committed by our countrymen to our fellow countrymen.)
Yang said the suspect is facing a complaint for 10 counts of falsification by private individuals and use of falsified documents under Revised Penal Code in relation to Cybercrime Prevention Act.
The bail is set at P36,000 for each count, according to Yang.
Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the 'fixer' system in obtaining driver's licenses has reached the online space.
'Isa sa mga, sasabihin ko na, kabulukan ng sistema, itong nag-evolve na sistema ng mga fixer,' Dizon said.
(One of the, I would say, corruptions of the system, this evolved system of fixers.)
'Yung fixer dati nasa tabi ng LTO, nag-offer ng services ika nga, hihingi ng pampadulas para makalusot sa requirements ng lisensya, rehistro, etc. Pero dahil sa internet, Facebook, naging online na yan,' he added.
(Fixers used to be beside the LTO, offering services, asking for bribes to get around the requirements of the license, registration, etc. But because of the internet, Facebook, that has become online.)

Animal welfare group protests alleged maltreatment in Manila Zoo

2 Customs brokers nabbed for alleged extortion
Authorities arrested two Customs brokers in Ermita, Manila for allegedly engaging in extortion targeting a local freight forwarder. In a statement on Wednesday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said the suspects allegedly attempted to extort the victim by demanding an additional P1.9 million 'greasy money' for various offices that would issue the company's shipment from being on hold. The suspects were arrested Wednesday, a day after the freight forwarder company filed a complaint. 'It was to my understanding that the complainant was given only until June 3 to produce an additional P1.9 million on top of the P500,000 that was already previously paid for Otsuka's shipment. Even though the complaint was only filed on June 2, we needed to act fast in just a day to conduct the entrapment operation because there was a so-called deadline from the suspects,' BOC Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service Director Verne Enciso said. According to the BOC, the company already paid one of the suspects P500,000 for an 'all-inclusive engagement fee' that includes the broker's fee and customs duties and taxes. 'But upon arrival of the shipment, this certain Wyeth allegedly told the complainant that the shipment was on hold and would be subjected to a Warrant of Seizure and Detention unless the complainant, this Otsuka, pays an additional P1.9 million,' Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy said. One of the suspects also said the shipment would be subject to a warrant of seizure and detention if the company failed to pay the additional fee by June 3. The suspects will face charges of robbery with violence or intimidation of persons by way of extortion under the Revised Penal Code. Senate OKs anti-POGO bill on second reading
The Senate approved on second reading a bill banning Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country. Senate Bill 2868 or the Anti-POGO Bill, declared offshore gaming operations in the Philippines as unlawful. 'I look forward na ma adopt na ito ng Senado yung batas po at yung committee report, I really felt na ito ay one-two power punch against POGO,' said Senator Risa Hontiveros, chair of the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality. Among the amendments in the measure are the Bureau of Immigration's mandate to deport foreign nationals directly back to their country. Meanwhile, maximum penalties were imposed on government officials found engaging in POGO-related activities. In 2024, authorities discovered some POGO hubs engaging in human trafficking and physical and sexual abuse. This includes POGO hubs in Bambam, Tarlac and Porac, Pampanga.
