Cameco Reports Expected Increase in Its Share of Westinghouse 2025 Adjusted EBITDA
Article content All amounts in Canadian dollars unless specified otherwise Article content SASKATOON, Saskatchewan — Cameco (TSX: CCO; NYSE: CCJ) reports an expected increase of approximately $170 million (US) in our 49% equity share of Westinghouse Electric Company's (Westinghouse) 2025 second quarter and annual adjusted EBITDA. The expected increase is tied to Westinghouse's participation in the construction project for two nuclear reactors at the Dukovany power plant in the Czech Republic. This expected increase will be taken into consideration in determining the 2025 distribution payable by Westinghouse to Cameco. Article content In addition to the increase in adjusted EBITDA in 2025, we expect significant financial benefits for Westinghouse, as a subcontractor, over the term of the Dukovany construction project and related to the provision of the fuel fabrication services required for both reactors for a specified period. The outlook for Westinghouse's compound annual growth rate for adjusted EBITDA remains 6% to 10% over the next five years, excluding the impact of the expected $170 million (US) increase in its 2025 adjusted EBITDA. Article content Cameco owns a 49% interest in Westinghouse and its partner, Brookfield Renewable Partners, owns the remaining 51%. Article content Caution about forward-looking information Article content This news release includes statements and information about our expectations for the future, which we refer to as forward-looking information. Forward-looking information is based on our current views, which can change significantly, and actual results and events may be significantly different from what we currently expect. Examples of forward-looking information in this news release include our expectations regarding: Westinghouse's participation in the Dukovany power plant construction project; an increase in Westinghouse's adjusted EBITDA; Westinghouse taking this increase into consideration in determining the 2025 distribution payable to Cameco; the financial benefits for Westinghouse, as subcontractor, over the term of the Dukovany construction project and the expected future growth in Westinghouse's compound annual growth rate for adjusted EBITDA. Material risks that could lead to different results include the risk that Westinghouse is not able to participate in the Dukovany construction project on a basis that achieves the currently expected benefits to Westinghouse for any reason, or that Cameco may not derive the expected increases in its share of Westinghouse's adjusted EBITDA, or that Westinghouse does not achieve the expected future annual growth in adjusted EBITDA. In presenting the forward-looking information, we have made material assumptions which may prove incorrect about Westinghouse's participation in the Dukovany construction project and related potential benefits to Westinghouse, and continuing growth in Westinghouse's compound annual growth rate for adjusted EBITDA. Article content Non-IFRS Measures Article content Adjusted EBITDA is a measure that does not have a standardized meaning or a consistent basis of calculation under International Financial Reporting Standards (a non-IFRS measure). Westinghouse's adjusted EBITDA is defined as its net income, adjusted for the impact of certain expenses, costs, charges or benefits incurred in such period which are either not indicative of underlying business performance or that impact the ability to assess the operating performance of its business. For more information regarding our use of this non-IFRS measure see our most recent annual and quarterly Management's Discussion and Analysis. Article content Profile Article content Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to power a secure energy future. Our competitive position is based on our controlling ownership of the world's largest high-grade reserves and low-cost operations, as well as significant investments across the nuclear fuel cycle, including ownership interests in Westinghouse Electric Company and Global Laser Enrichment. Utilities around the world rely on Cameco to provide global nuclear fuel solutions for the generation of safe, reliable, carbon-free nuclear power. Randall Denley: Ontario is finally forcing out DEI from schools and universities
Article content What it should not include is extra points for applicants who belong to special designated groups. Any publicly funded institution should treat people equally, not equitably. The two words sound similar but they are miles apart in current meaning. Equity admissions give extra weight to individuals from groups that have previously been under-represented. It might be a noble idea, but it's still a form of discrimination. Article content The core flaw of the DEI world view is the idea that people are primarily defined by their membership in a group. Further, certain groups can only succeed if the bar is lowered for them. That can be insulting and inherently racist, and yet its proponents think they're battling racism. Article content The changes for school boards are far more extensive than those for colleges and universities. The legislation gives the government sweeping power to keep the boards tightly focused on student success and sound financial management. In effect, the education minister is now the trustee in chief for boards across the province. Article content As Education Minister Paul Calandra put it, 'We are making it clear that school boards must put students first — not politics, not bureaucracy — and that we will act decisively when they fall short of that responsibility.' Article content Ontario Public Service Employees Union president JP Hornick said, 'Bill 33 is a power grab, and a dangerous one.' But the provincial government already had power over school boards. What it is doing now is offering enhanced oversight and more control, if necessary. Article content It's certainly required. While most school boards are meeting the government's expectations, some are failing spectacularly. Article content Trustees in the Thames Valley District School Board, which covers the area around London, Ont., thought it just fine to spend almost $40,000 on an offsite retreat, while those in a Brantford-area Catholic board spent nearly $190,000 on a trip for four trustees to Italy to buy art. The $190,000 includes $63,000 in legal fees to manage the fallout. Other boards are facing large deficits. They blame provincial underfunding, but their job is to manage within the money the province gives them. Article content The Ford government wants trustees who focus on student learning and fiscal responsibility. It will be no accident if that profound change deters future social-justice warriors looking to launch a political career.

Finding overlooked quality U.S. stocks with strong momentum
With the S&P 500 trading within 4 per cent of its all-time high at the time of this writing, investor attention is focused on stocks showing strong momentum. Our screen aims to uncover outperforming U.S.-listed companies that combine robust price performance with solid fundamentals using Trading Central's proprietary Quality and Momentum factor rating approach. By including midcap names with liquidity filters, we're seeking quality stocks that may be overlooked by traditional analysts, yet are well-positioned in today's resilient equity market. Using Trading Central's Strategy Builder, we screened for U.S.-listed stocks with a market capitalization between US$500-million and US$5-billion, focusing our search on small- and midcap companies which are big enough to be stable and liquid, but small enough to still offer significant growth potential and possibly be overlooked by the broader market. To target liquid and tradable securities, we included only stocks with listed options and set a minimum share price of US$10, helping to avoid highly speculative or illiquid names. To identify stocks that have seen increased investor interest, we required the 10-day average trading volume to be at least equal to the 90-day average, signalling recent momentum in trading activity. We focused on companies demonstrating both strong price momentum and solid fundamentals by setting minimum Trading Central Momentum and Quality Factor Ratings of 60 out of 100, respectively. The quality-factor group measures the total financial strength of the company in regard to profitability, the robustness of its balance sheet and earnings quality. The momentum factor refers to the tendency of winning stocks to continue performing well in the near term. Finally, to ensure our screen included stocks maintaining positive trends, we required that each stock be no more than 15 per cent below its 52-week high, identifying companies trading near their recent peaks and exhibiting sustained strength. For informational purposes, we have also included year-to-date, and one-year return. Trading Central is a global leader in financial market research and investment analytics for retail online brokers and institutions. Its product suite provides actionable trading ideas based on technical and fundamental research covering stocks, exchange-traded funds, indexes, forex, options and commodities. Strategy Builder, our stock screener, is available through leading retail brokers in Canada and worldwide. Topping our list is Heritage Insurance Holdings Inc., a property and casualty insurer that has delivered a remarkable 185-per-cent return over the past year, the highest on our list. With a price-to-earnings ratio of just 9.21 and a momentum factor rating of 93, Florida-based Heritage stands out for both value and price momentum. Despite its modest market cap of US$720-million, the company's strong TC Quality Factor rating of 63 and sustained price rally make it a compelling choice for investors seeking under-the-radar growth. One Gas Inc., a regulated natural gas utility serving more than 2.3 million customers across Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, has the highest market cap on our list at $4.41-billion. The Oklahoma-based company's stock has a TC Quality and Momentum factor rating of 63 and 87 respectively, which is strong. The stock has been outperforming the broad market like all the stocks in this screen, with a 25.6-per-cent return year-to-date. Vancouver's MAG Silver Corp., a leading precious metals producer, caught our attention because of its recent increase in trading volume. The stock's 10-day/90-day volume ratio of 1.51, the highest in our list, suggests it is currently attracting more attention from investors. The stock recently posted a new 52-week high. Trading Central Strategy Builder provides a back-testing capability to evaluate how well an investing strategy would have worked in the past. Using a five-year historical period with quarterly rebalancing, the screen described had an impressive 25-per-cent annualized return compared to 14 per cent for the S&P 500 Index. The investment ideas presented here are for information only. They do not constitute advice or a recommendation by Trading Central in respect of the investment in financial instruments. Investors should conduct further research before investing. Gary Christie is head of North American research at Trading Central in Ottawa.
