Members of various Brahmin associations stage protest against Janivara incidents
Members of various Brahmin associations took out a protest against the forcible removal of Janivara or sacred thread of candidates appearing for the CET in the State recently.
They sought criminal action against officials who were responsible for these incidents and threatened a State-wide protest against the Congress government.
BJP MLA Abhay Patil joined the protest and expressed solidarity with the community.
The protestors gathered at the Kittur Channamma Circle and shouted slogans against the Congress government. They held placards in Kannada and Marathi that said Save Janivara, Save Brahmins.
Some removed their shirt to display the sacred thread, while others held an extra set of the thread in their hands.
The protestors condemned the policies adopted by the Karnataka Examination Authority. Some raised slogans against the Congress government in the State and termed it an anti-Hindu government. They walked to the Deputy Commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum seeking action against Karnataka Examination Authority officers.
Mr. Abhay Patil said that Janivara is sacred for Brahmins and some other communities too.
'Wearing it is part of their essential religious practices and its forcible removal amounts to insulting the individual and the community. It seems that the officers who forced candidates to remove it were prejudiced against it. This is an atrocity against the community,' he said. An insult to Brahmins amounts to an insult to the larger Hindu society, he added.
Another leader Rekha Desai said that vested interests who could not tolerate the academic development of Brahmins are behind this.
Akhil Karnataka Brahmin Mahasabha district representative Akshaya Kulkarni, district Brahmin Samaj Trust vice-president Bharat Deshpande, leaders R.S. Muthalik, Dinesh Deshpande, Sanjeev Kulkarni and others were present.

We've pushed back 330 illegal foreigners, none of them has returned: Assam CM
Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Iterating the BJP-led Assam government's stern stand on Bangladeshi citizens entering or living in India illegally, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed the Assembly that the government has pushed back almost 330 such unauthorised foreigners, and none of them has returned. 'It is not possible for them to return, and we are firm on this. And this pushback will be intensified, it will be expedited. The way illegal immigrants have entered the state from Bangladesh and Pakistan, we have to be more proactive to keep the state safe," said Sarma. The Chief Minister was replying to a demand by opposition members, including Congress' Debabrata Saikia and AIUDF's Ashraful Hussain to discuss on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC). While raising the issue, Saikia said that while the government has claimed to have pushed back illegal foreigners, some of them again entered Assam, making the government's stand vague on the issue. The Chief Minister further informed the House that the state government has also decided to reinforce the Illegal (Expulsion from Assam) Act 1950. "Under the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950, the District Commissioner, if he is reasonably convinced that a certain individual is a foreigner, can remove that individual without referring a case to the Tribunal," he said. The Chief Minister said the government has taken inspiration from former Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha, who had pushed back illegal immigrants. 'We are taking inspiration from the good works of the Congress,' he said while referring to Chaliha, who was a Congress Chief Minister. "There are two ways to identify illegal immigrants in Assam — one is the Tribunal and the other is the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950. There the word 'push back'is not there, but 'remove' is there," he added Expressing his concern over the issue, the Chief Minister further said that the government has found out almost 2600 Facebook accounts, which were operated from Islamabad, Riyadh and Saudi Arab. "They don't even welcome Rahul Gandhi, but welcome one particular individual from Assam. And I have documents, within the next ten to 12 days I'll provide some information about such accounts to the press,' he said. 'These accounts post only on two occasion, either on Palestine or on Assam, nothing else. I am not saying that the Muslims of Assam are not indigenous. Indigenous is a secular definition. ... Shongtong-Karcham gets 2026 deadline, HP bets big on hydro
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has set a firm Nov 2026 deadline for the completion of the long-delayed Shongtong-Karcham hydroelectric project, saying the 450-MW plant will generate Rs 1,000 crore in annual revenue and strengthen the state's green energy ambitions. Sukhu on Monday inspected the under-construction site in Kinnaur district — visiting both the power house at Karcham and the barrage site at Powari — where he met engineers and workers. He said that even though the project had dragged on for 13 years, the state's current Congress govt had fast-tracked its progress and was committed to commissioning it on schedule. "This project symbolises our focus on tapping river resources to drive economic growth," Sukhu said, adding that the state was moving actively to regain control over stalled or externally-managed hydroelectric initiatives. He claimed that the govt was assessing the total expenditure incurred on other major hydropower projects — including Dhaulasidh, Luhri, and Sunni — with plans to resume and regulate their construction under state-led terms. "Unlike the previous BJP govt, which compromised state interests, we are prioritising Himachal Pradesh's control over its energy assets," Sukhu said. Teachers' associations want rollback of 3-lang policy
Pune: Over 20 associations and groups working in the education sector have written to the state govt asking it to scrap the recently introduced compulsory third language in Stds I to V and revert to the two-language policy adopted until now. Schools are set reopen for the new academic year on June 16. The controversy started when govt issued an order on April 16 stating that Hindi will be compulsory as the third language. When it ran into opposition, school education minister Dada Bhuse, on April 22, announced that Hindi was not compulsory, it could be any other language. However, teachers' associations and education experts have told govt to scrap the three-language policy until Std V and issue a fresh GR to this effect. Mahendra Ganpule, spokesperson for Maharashtra School Principals' Federation, said, "Until now, in local body-run schools, Marathi was the first language and English the second or vice versa. Hindi was added in Std VI. We want that system to continue."
