If elected, Carney is promising to respect Indigenous rights.

House unanimously adopts Liberals' promised income tax cut
The House of Commons unanimously voted in favour of the Liberals' promised income tax cut on Thursday. The Liberals promised to bring in a one percentage point reduction in the lowest marginal tax rate — taking it from 15 per cent to 14 per cent — during this spring's election campaign. The government introduced a "ways and means" motion to make the tax changes last week and all MPs voted in favour of the motion on Thursday. A ways and means motion allows the government to start making changes to the tax code before such changes are passed in legislation — but a bill will still need to be passed. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne introduced legislation on Thursday morning that will formally adopt the tax cut into law. Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to implement the tax cut by Canada Day. The Liberals say it will save two-income families up to $840 a year in 2026. Prior to Thursday's vote, Conservatives had signalled that they would be willing to support the tax cut — even though they said it should go further. "We are the party of taxpayers. We will vote for every tax cut always and everywhere. We love taxpayers and we want taxpayers to be better off," Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said last week.

Carney fills out team with 39 parliamentary secretaries
Social Sharing Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the team that will support him and his cabinet as his minority government tries to fulfil its mandate during tumultuous economic times. The list of 39 parliamentary secretaries include a handful of Liberal MPs who once served in cabinet but were dropped after Carney's win on April 28. Parliamentary secretaries are not cabinet ministers, but they assist ministers and secretaries of state. They're often tasked with supporting them in the House, during the legislative process and in making announcements. The job comes with a $20,200 bump on top of their MP pay of $209,800. "Canada's new parliamentary secretary team will deliver on the government's mandate for change, working collaboratively with all parties in Parliament to build the strongest economy in the G7, advance a new security and economic partnership with the United States and help Canadians get ahead," said Carney in a statement. Nova Scotia premier pitching ambitious ‘Wind West' offshore wind energy project
HALIFAX - In response to Prime Minister Mark Carney's bid to make Canada an 'energy superpower,' Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston is floating the idea of dramatically ramping up the province's nascent offshore wind energy industry. In an online video released earlier this week, Houston says he's hoping Carney's Liberal government will supply the federal money needed for a new megaproject the premier has dubbed 'Wind West.'
