Free transit in Ottawa for 1st weekend in May
OC Transpo and Para Transpo service will be free the first weekend in May to thank customers and encourage use after both the Trillium Line relaunch and a massive service overhaul set to take place earlier that week.
The free rides May 3 and 4 were announced by Ottawa's transit general manager in a Friday morning memo.
The announcement comes after the launch of the expanded north-south rail lines earlier this year and ahead of the April 27 rollout of the "New Ways to Bus" initiative, which is designed to realign service with Lines 2 and 4 and will change nearly every route.
The changes will also reduce service by about 3.5 per cent compared to levels at the start of last spring, when the campaign launched amid budget constraints.
The city's transit committee heard plans about an unspecified free transit weekend last week.

No Redblacks shuttle bus from Ottawa City Hall to TD Place this season
Redblacks fans are being warned there will be no shuttle bus from Ottawa City Hall to TD Place this season due to anticipated closures on part of Queen Elizabeth Driveway. The Ottawa Redblacks host their first pre-season game tonight at 7 p.m. The first home game is set for June 13. In a note to fans, the Redblacks say there will be no more 'Park and Shuttle' service from Ottawa City Hall to TD Place on game days. Fans have been able to park at City Hall and then use a shuttle bus to get to games at TD Place. 'The City Hall Park & Shuttle service will no longer be available for Redblacks gamedays due to anticipated Queen Elizabeth Driveway closures,' the Redblacks said. Fans can park for free at Canada Post or park at Carleton University lots (P5, P7, P18) for $6 and there will be a shuttle bus to games. Your game day Redblacks ticket includes a free ride on OC Transpo starting three hours before and 90 minutes after the game.

Heron Road to be closed at Bank Street this summer: Here's what you need to know
The Bank Street renewal project is one of several construction projects underway in Ottawa this summer. (Dave Charbonneau/CTV News Ottawa) A busy road will be closed to traffic in Ottawa's Alta Vista neighbourhood for three months this summer, forcing motorists to detour around the area. Starting Sunday at 8 a.m., Heron Road will be closed east of the Bank Street intersection to Alta Vista Drive. The closure is expected to continue until Aug. 31 as part of the Bank Street Renewal Project. The City of Ottawa says the detour will direct motorists to use Walkley Road and Heron Road, east of Alta Vista as the alternate route. 'To expedite the underground infrastructure replacements at the intersection of Bank Street and Heron Road, Heron Road will close between Bank Street and Alta Vista Drive beginning on June 1, 2025, until late summer,' the city says. Bank Street will also be reduced to one lane in each direction from Riverside Drive to Collins Avenue. The construction work this summer includes the installation of new storm and sanitary sewers along Bank Street. Line 2 delayed at South Keys Station, 1 platform operating
Trillium Line 2 is experiencing a switch issue at South Keys Station that is causing delays for travellers, the head of city's transit services said in a statement. The switch issue has taken one of two platforms out of service, forcing travellers to change trains at South Keys, Renée Amilcar, the General Manager of the transit services department, said in a memo to the mayor. "It is anticipated this will continue for the rest of the service day," The memo said. "This is a known issue with this switch that TransitNext was unable to resolve during the overnight hours yesterday." The memo warned customers to expect longer travel times on line 2, and that TransitNext "will continue the repairs tonight after service concludes." Line 2 is operating at its routine stations, and Line 1 and 4 are operating normally, the memo said.
