Guernsey Airport lighting upgrade closes Port Soif car park
Upgrades to hundreds of lights at Guernsey Airport will result in the temporary closure of a car park.Guernsey Ports said overnight work to the aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) systems would replace and modernise equipment, which provides a visual guide to pilots in low visibility.It said the AGL system refers to lights around the airfield, along the runway centreline and edge, as well as the taxiways and approach lights outside the airport boundary.Guernsey States said Port Soif would be used as an alternative landing site for medical air transfers while the work is carried out, meaning the car park will shut each night between 19:00 and 07:00 BST until 19 June.
It said the current equipment was "reaching the end of its design life"."Due to the age of the current systems, spare parts have become more difficult to source due to obsolescence, and there is a greater risk of failure as the systems continue to age," it said."The planned upgrades to the AGL system will significantly reduce the likelihood of any future disruption, which would have an adverse impact on airport operations."

Knives and ivory stolen in 'targeted burglary' of vacant home
Knives, ivory ornaments and a historic telescope have been stolen from a vacant house in Police said the ten ivory items, several knives, a glass paperweight, two vases, and an iron field telescope had been stolen from the Castel home in a "targeted burglary".The force said it had asked local and UK militaria dealers and auction houses whether the items had been presented to them, but the items had not been asked anyone who had seen the items or been offered them for sale to come forward. Jersey sporting experiences sought to improve plans
People have been encouraged to share key issues they have experienced in the sports sector for a States of Jersey scrutiny part of the hearing into the provision of sports in the island, Minister for Infrastructure Constable Andy Jehan will be questioned about the performance pathways available to top follows plans to redevelop Fort Regent, a leisure centre in St Helier, and the transfer of sports groups and organisations to other facilities across the island, the States chairman Deputy Montfort Tadier said "concerns had been raised" about long-term plans for the venue. "While the government has outlined plans to transfer many of these [clubs] to other facilities across the island, concerns have been raised by some about the suitability of the chosen venues and the long-term plans."Tadier said it was important sports clubs had appropriate infrastructure, support and funding regardless of whether they were at "grassroots level or supporting top athletes".A pop-up event is set to take place in St Helier on Friday so people can share their views. The scrutiny hearing will take place on 12 June 2025.

Offenders did unpaid work for 16,000 hours in Jersey in 2024
