The college basketball season will be here before you know it. Sure, football season comes first, but it won't be long before gym floors are squeaking again and hoops fans get their fix.

One thing that never stops is the recruitment process. Top programs across the country are now focused on the class of 2026. These rising seniors are heading into a pivotal year as they prepare for their final high school season and start making decisions about where they'll play at the next level.
Joe Tipton of On3 Sports shared the latest update on one of the top 2026 recruits, combo guard Austin Goosby. Goosby is drawing attention from several major programs, including Duke.
"2026 Top-30 recruit Austin Goosby has scheduled official visits to Duke, Texas, Baylor, BYU, Miami, SMU, and UCLA, he tells @On3Recruits."
Goosby, a 6-foot-5 four-star guard out of Melissa, Texas, received an offer from Duke head coach Jon Scheyer on June 17. His official visit schedule is packed, starting with SMU on July 28 and UCLA on July 30. In September, he'll head to Texas and Baylor before finishing the month with visits to Miami and BYU. His final stop is scheduled for Duke on Oct. 2.

Duke, led by Scheyer, is coming off a stellar 35-4 season. The Blue Devils went 19-1 in ACC play and reached the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. They finished third in the final Associated Press poll.

The 2025-26 Duke squad will look quite different after the departures of Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Tyrese Proctor, Sion James and Khaman Maluach, Duke's top five scorers from last season.
But with Scheyer's strong recruiting and Goosby's interest in the program, Duke continues to stay in the mix as a premier destination for top high school talent.

49ers McCaffrey Update Boosts Confidence for Impactful Return

49ers McCaffrey Update Boosts Confidence for Impactful Return originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Just one year after enjoying the most memorable season of his career, Christian McCaffrey suffered perhaps his most forgetful. Advertisement The San Francisco 49ers star running back appeared in just four games in the middle of the 2024 season due to Achilles and knee injuries. In 2023, he powered the Niners' to a conference championship as the Offensive Player of the Year with over 2,000 yards from scrimmage. After a long offseason of recovery, many around the 49ers organization believe "CMC" is back to full strength, threatening a return to team contention after last year's 6-11 season with him on the sideline for most of it. 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows of The Athletic has chimed in with the latest update, it being another quote that is sweet music to the ears of Niners Nation. "Christian McCaffrey is healthy again," Barrows reported in his notebook of takeaways from spring workouts. "Following a 2024 season marred by Achilles and knee issues, McCaffrey said his goal this spring was to be available for all of the 49ers' OTA and minicamp sessions." Advertisement Barrows added: "And while he didn't look quite like he did in the spring of 2023 ... he didn't have to sit out any sessions. That was a boost of confidence for the running back, who said he'll be back to training as usual during the summer break, and to a 49ers offense that missed McCaffrey last season, especially in the red zone." To the man himself, this isn't a surprise. He has always stated his mission of being a full participant in minicamp and the upcoming training camp. McCaffrey - an unfortunately frequent visitor of the rehabilitation department throughout his career - acknowledged that he's learned how to recovery and had to "start from scratch" in order to return to optimal health. With an offense that surrounds him with multiple weapons, McCaffrey may not need to return to an MVP-caliber level, but of course, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers will take the best that he has to offer. Advertisement That seems not just possible, but probable, thanks to another optimistic report. 49ers Aiyuk Laughs At Past Trade Rumors Amid ACL Injury

49ers Aiyuk Laughs At Past Trade Rumors Amid ACL Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season during his extensive contract holdout, San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk was the subject of endless trade chatter - however likely or unlikely those actions were actually being put in motion internally. Advertisement The 49ers eventually signed their star pass-catcher to a four-year $120 million contract to hopefully put all parties at ease - those being Aiyuk, the organization, and the fans. Since Aiyuk's unfortunate ACL injury in Week 7 of the 2024 season, however, waves of trade speculation and rumored disputes between the player and team have resurfaced. Now Aiyuk is putting that noise on blast. Or ... at least a portion of the noise. On his personal YouTube channel, Aiyuk responded to comments about the trade rumors that spawned during the season right after his surgery: "They was talking bout trading me while I was off percocets /muscle relaxers and peeing in a cup by my bed! Couldn't walk for 10 weeks ain't nobody trading for me 🤣💀" Advertisement Not only was Aiyuk tied to a long-term (and high-dollar) contract, but he was injured for the rest of the season. It's an easy timeline to follow that explains why he was not traded. That thought process holds today as Aiyuk is still inactive from offseason workouts, with his expected return to the field well beyond the start of the season. While he was poking some humor about no team pursuing him in a trade, this could be another way of him telling fans to knock off the recent speculation, as well. Aiyuk being able to laugh at his situation should be taken as a sign of positivity to not only quieting trade talks, but to giving an optimistic report of his recovery and mental state. Advertisement When healthy, Aiyuk is a fantastic receiver who is plenty capable of being an elite offense's No. 1 option. When he isn't, of course, trade-hungry sharks will subside. If Aiyuk can return near the midway point of the 2025 season, barring health across the rest of the roster, San Francisco will be poised to return to championship contention like they did in 2023. Last season's unfortunate injury fate, to Aiyuk and others, lessened their odds of making the playoffs - let alone another Super Bowl. Any possibility of a trade at that point must be determined by numerous factors. First, how he performs back on the field. The indication is that Aiyuk and his contract will stay in the Bay Area. He is the last major piece working back to full health on this explosive Niners offense that, once he returns, is expected to wreak havoc. Advertisement He is well past the peeing-in-a-cup phase of his rehab ... And if you ask him, he's hoping we are done with the trade rumors, too. Suns add 7-footer Mark Williams, send two first-round picks to Hornets, AP source says

FILE - Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams pulls down a rebound against the Utah Jazz during the first half of an NBA basketball game in Charlotte, N.C., Monday, March 31, 2025. (AP Photo/Nell Redmond, File) PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Suns have acquired center Mark Williams in a trade that sends two first-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets, a person familiar with the move told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the trade hasn't officially been announced. Advertisement The Hornets received this year's No. 29 pick and a 2029 first-round selection. ESPN first reported the deal. Williams was one of two 7-footers the Suns added during the first round of the NBA draft. The Suns are also expected to get Duke center Khaman Maluach, who was selected by the Rockets with the No. 10 overall pick but is part of a trade that will send 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to Houston. Williams averaged 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Hornets last year, providing plenty of production when healthy. He was the No. 15 overall pick out of Duke in the 2022 draft. The Hornets attempted to trade Williams last year to the Los Angeles Lakers, but the deal was later rescinded because the center failed his physical. Advertisement The Lakers had agreed to send rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish along with draft considerations to get the 23-year-old Williams, a third-year pro from Duke and a former first-round draft pick. Los Angeles was looking for a big man at the time to replace Anthony Davis, who was traded to Dallas along with Max Christie for superstar Luka Doncic. Charlotte also was supposed to receive the Lakers' first-round pick in 2031 and a first-round pick swap in 2030. Instead, the Lakers nixed the trade after learning more about Williams, who has a lengthy injury history including back problems that had limited him to 84 of a possible 212 NBA games over his three seasons at that point. The Hornets sent out a statement welcoming Williams back to the team, but it created an awkward relationship. It wasn't immediately clear if Williams has already taken a physical or had his medicals reviewed by Phoenix. ___ AP Sports Writer Steve Reed in Charlotte contributed to this report
