Fans who had tuned into NBC Sports' coverage of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 3, grew concerned for host Mike Tirico when he suddenly left the broadcast.
NBC Sports correspondent Ahmed Fareed took over for Tirico, alongside Carmelo Anthony, sharing only that Tirico started to feel under the weather.
Now, Tirico is sharing exactly what happened with the 'Today' show, saying he was embarrassed by the attention the situation had caused.
Tirico said he has lived with a severe peanut allergy for most of his life.
He suffered a severe allergic reaction at the derby after unknowingly eating something that 'activated' his allergy.
'I left my EPIPen in Craig's dressing room when I was there a couple of weeks ago,' Tirico, referring to host Craig Melvin, said. 'I've had a nut allergy my whole life. And I'm usually very, very careful.'
'Whatever I ended up eating during the day, usually you do that snack grazing that a lot of us in TV do, so you're not eating a big meal before you go on the air,' Tirico, who had recently co-hosted the 'Today' show, explained. 'I ate something that had a nut in it, and I have a nut allergy, causing your throat and your nose and all that stuff to kind of clog up and swell. It affects your breathing a little bit.'
As a result, Tirico 'wasn't feeling well, couldn't go on with the show, took an EpiPen shot, got treated by EMTs, felt better as about 8, 9 o'clock came on, but it takes a while for it to get out of your system. And thank goodness Ahmed Fareed, who's great, was there and filled in more than able-y.'
Tirico then shared a message to others who suffer from severe food allergies, which includes his son.
'Ask, inquire, be curious and be courteous.'

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte is getting a divorce in Florida, and we have details

Divorces are rarely pretty, but Ryan Lochte's is shaping up to be a doozy. Two months after the Olympic swimmer's wife, Kayla Rae Reid, filed for divorce in their home state of Florida, the exes' personal problems are coming to light. Last week, the parents of three, married since 2018, announced their split (separately) on Instagram. 'Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection,' wrote Reid, 33. 'I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life.' According to Alachua County court records obtained by the Miami Herald, the former Playboy model filed for a dissolution of marriage in Gainesville, Fla., where they reside, back in March. Among the challenges the realtor may have been alluding to are serious financial problems. Us Weekly reveals the estranged pair have racked up more than $270,000 in debt. This includes money owed to the Internal Revenue Service (for the years 2021 and 2022) as well to medical professionals. In addition, a lien of $2,231.76 was filed on their house by their homeowners association over special assessments, late fees, costs of collection and more the outlet reports. 'I've come to understand that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make,' continued Reid. 'For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself.' As for Lochte, 40, his Instagram post said he was 'committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect' in their new chapter. The 40-year-old UF alum also alluded to challenges, saying it was a 'difficult decision' to go their separate ways. 'Although [it] hasn't been easy, I believe it's the right step toward peace and well-being for both.'

Dakota Johnson Shocks With Blunt Response To 'Today' Show Question

Dakota Johnson knows exactly what she wants in a relationship. Johnson made an appearance on the 'Today' show on Monday, to promote her new movie, 'Materialists,' where she plays a matchmaker. During the interview with her co-star Chris Evans, the two were asked about a dating non-negotiable they would give a real-life matchmaker. Evans, who is married, said 'They must love dogs ― gotta love dogs.' 'If you're not a dog person, what are we doing?' he asked. Johnson was much more blunt in her take. 'Like, not an asshole?' the actor said as the rest of the studio laughed and 'Today' show host Craig Melvin looked slightly shocked and nodded his head. 'That's concise!' Evans quipped. 'There it is. Nail on the head.' 'Nail on the head,' Melvin said. 'And we're actually going to probably have to clean that up for the West Coast feed. That's OK.' People in the comments of an Instagram post sharing the clip loved Johnson's refreshing take, and praised her for her blunt response. 'Dakota and her spontaneous honesty,' one commenter wrote, as another added, 'I watched this live. Dakota, always be you. Perfect answer!' Someone else in the comments confirmed that Johnson's response was indeed cleaned up for the West Coast feed. 'Bahahahahaha!!! It got bleeped out here,' one person wrote. Johnson may soon be using this non-negotiable to vet potential suitors, as multiple outlets reported that the actor split from longtime partner Chris Martin last week. 'It feels final this time,' a source told People magazine. The two have been on and off since 2017.
