Constantine set to coach Pak again
The Pakistan Football Federation has decided to reappoint Stephen Constantine as the head coach of the national team for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
While an official announcement is yet to be made, the decision comes as Pakistan gears up for the third round of the qualifiers, marking a crucial phase in the country's footballing journey.
However, according to reports, Constantine has been asked for coaching role only for the AFC Asian Cup qualifier match against Syria. A decision for long term appointment will be made at a later stage.
"He is coming only for this qualifier (vs Syria). We don't have enough time for any change so we asked Stephen to come back for this match," a PFF official said.
Constantine previously managed the Pakistan team from 2023 to 2024. During his first stint with Pakistan team, the Shaheens managed to win the FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Cambodia and for the first time ever in history, qualified for the second round of qualifiers – though couldn't' proceed beyond that, but team showed remarkable improvement during his tenure.
Stephen Constantine is a familiar name in Asian football, having managed several national teams across the continent, including India and Nepal.
He is best known for his two successful tenures with the Indian national team, where he significantly improved India's FIFA ranking and developed young talent.
The PFF, according to sources, has also confirmed Pakistan's participation in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, a major step forward following the lifting of FIFA's suspension,
Pakistan's first match in the qualifiers is scheduled for March 25, 2024, against Syria.
The match, Syria's home game, will be held in Saudi Arabia. According to sources, Constantine is set to take charge of the team for this crucial fixture.
Earlier, The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) lifted the ban on the PFF after the local body made desired constitutional amendments.
As per details, the top football governing body revoked the suspension after the PFF approved its proposed constitutional amendments in an Extraordinary Congress last week. Member of the PFF Normalisation Committee (NC) Shahid Khokhar confirming the development thanked FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for their constant support towards Pakistan.

India will host the women's 50-overs World this year but Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka under an arrangement made by the International Cricket Council. India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy this year and played all their matches, including the March 9 final, in Dubai. Bilateral cricket has been suspended since 2013 between the Asian neighbours, who play each other only in multi-team events. India head coach Gautam Gambhir is against playing Pakistan even in neutral venues but will follow whatever the BCCI decided, he said last month.

England coach Tuchel expects players to suffer in World Cup heat
LONDON: England coach Thomas Tuchel will attend FIFA's Club World Cup starting this month to observe how players cope with the expected hot and humid weather conditions. Next year's World Cup, taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, could be one of the hottest in the tournament's history. 'It is important to see matches now in America, and in Miami at three in the afternoon,' Tuchel said as he prepared his team for their World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona. 'I will see that. How it looks, and we need to understand how to cool the players down, to drink. What our options are.' England are top of qualifying Group K and almost certain to qualify for next year's tournament where they will be among the favourites for the title. But Tuchel says the conditions will be harsh. 'Let's see because it is after the season, so it will be very similar. The actual experience is for the players, but I have done pre-season there in Orlando and I will be very surprised if we do not suffer,' he said. 'Suffering is one of the headlines for this World Cup.' England are preparing for the Andorra game in the Spanish city of Girona and are using heat tents to test the players reaction and recovery to training in heat and humidity. Sixteen stadiums will be used at next year's World Cup with predictions of potentially extreme temperatures. In Dallas, one of the host cities, in an average year more than 80% of June and July days exceed 28 degrees Celsius. A study led by Brunel University found that, according to analysis of 20 years of weather data, 14 of the 16 host stadiums would top 28 degrees Celsius on a daily basis in June and July with four likely to hit 32 degrees in a hotter than summer. FIFPRO, the world players union, recommends that if there is Wet Bulb Globe Temperature of between 28-32 degree, cooling breaks should take place around the 30th and 75th minutes. It says that if there is a WBGT of more than 32 degrees, training and matches should be rescheduled.

ACC postpones 2025 Women's Emerging Asia Cup
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has indefinitely postponed the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2025, which was set to begin on June 6 in Sri Lanka. The decision was taken following a request from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva, who cited adverse weather conditions and a growing outbreak of the chikungunya virus as key concerns. In a press release issued on Sunday, the ACC stated that the tournament was being delayed following consultations held in response to Silva's letter addressed to ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.
