India matches in Dubai: Businessman gives free Champions Trophy tickets to hundreds of workers
As cricket fever sweeps across the UAE, Dubai-based businessman Anis Sajan, vice-chairman of Danube Group, has given away tickets for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches to blue-collar workers.
The workers of Danube Group will be able to watch all India matches taking place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium including the most sought-after game against Pakistan.
The UAE is home to over 3.7 million Indian and nearly 1.7 million Pakistani nationals and most South Asians are extremely passionate about cricket. With thousands of fans queuing online on the day of the sale, tickets through the International Cricket Council (ICC) were sold out within minutes on two occasions.
Securing a seat at these high-stakes matches has been challenging for many fans, especially blue-collar workers.
Danube employees will receive 60 tickets per match for four key games, allowing dedicated cricket fans the opportunity to experience some of the tournament's most exciting matchups.
The distribution was strategically planned to align with some of the most anticipated matches, including Bangladesh versus India on February 20, India versus Pakistan on February 23, India versus New Zealand on March 2, and the semi-final on March 4.
The selection process was conducted through a lucky draw, ensuring equal opportunity for all interested workers. Since cricket holds a special place in the hearts of workers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India, these nationalities were prioritised while maintaining diverse representation. Workers were invited to submit their names, and a random draw determined the final selection.
The company said this initiative was part of the firm's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme and to reward hardworking individuals.
'Many of our blue-collar workers are devoted cricket fans, but the high ticket prices and overwhelming demand make attending a live match a distant dream for them. They work tirelessly to support our company, and this initiative is my way of giving back. Watching their cricketing idols live in action will be an unforgettable experience. My goal is simple: to bring joy and show appreciation for their dedication,' said Anis Sajan, fondly known as 'Mr Cricket UAE.'
As part of the CSR initiative, the company has arranged food and coupons to purchase snacks and water from the stadium. After the match, food packets will again be provided for their journey home.
