Man jailed for raping woman in Swindon alleyway
A man has been jailed for six years after raping a woman in an alleyway. Constantin-Robert Munteanu, 46, of Ferndale Road in Swindon, Wiltshire, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to two counts of rape.Munteanu attacked his victim in an alleyway in Swindon, between Gladstone Street and Ponting Street, shortly before midnight on 12 January. His sentence was reduced from nine years due to an early guilty plea, but he will also be the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
'Dangerous offender'
Temporary Det Con Elizabeth Storrar, of Swindon CID, said: "First and foremost, I'd like to thank and pay tribute to the victim in this case."Acknowledging and reporting what has happened can be very difficult for survivors of sexual offences, but because of her courage, women are now safer on the streets of Swindon."This investigation was a good example of multi-agency work between Swindon Police and outside organisations, which is vital for bringing dangerous offenders like Munteanu to justice."If you have been a victim of a sexual offence, know that there are other agencies and charities who can support you through a police investigation, such as First Light and their Independent Sexual Violence Advisors."

Police probe hit-and-run on Dundee street
Police have launched an investigation after a motorist deliberately tried to run over two men in a Dundee street. The driver of a black Vauxhall Corsa appeared to target the pair on Balmoral Place in the city's Douglas area. The incident took place near the community centre and library just after 3.15pm on Tuesday. Footage – seen by The Courier – shows three men on foot before the car enters the street via Balmoral Avenue. The vehicle then accelerates towards one shirtless man, who rolls over the bumper but remains on his feet. The driver then turns the car towards a second man standing at nearby flats, striking him at speed and propelling him into the air before fleeing towards Balmoral Terrace. Despite the impact, neither man required medical treatment, and neighbours said the pair remained in the area following the incident. One woman said: 'It was scary seeing the footage of what happened. 'The lads who got hit didn't even leave the street, and then the uniformed police arrived. 'There were three or four officers on the street, and CID came back the next day to carry out door-to-door enquiries. 'All they told us was that an incident had happened. 'It's absolutely mental what's going on in Dundee just now.' Police confirmed the hit-and-run is believed to have been targeted. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: 'Police are appealing for witnesses following a hit-and-run in Dundee. 'Around 3.15pm on Tuesday, 10 June, officers were called to Balmoral Place after two men were deliberately struck by a black Vauxhall Corsa. 'They did not require medical treatment. 'The incident is believed to have been targeted and inquiries are ongoing.' Detective Inspector Craig Kelly said: 'We have been carrying out extensive inquiries, including reviewing CCTV. 'At this stage, I am asking the public if they witnessed this incident to please come forward.' 'Similarly, anyone with private CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist is urged to contact us.' Brecon man to be sentenced for social media accounts
A BRECON man will be sentenced next month after admitting several charges in relation to breaching the terms of sexual offences court sentence he received eight years ago. James Ward, 27, was made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court in September 2017, when he was 19. Ward, of Dol Glas, Brecon, was charged with 12 breaches of that order earlier this year. It is alleged that Ward either held social media accounts with apps such as Tinder, Snapchat, Tiktok and YouTube using a different name and then deleted his profiles – both of which he was barred from doing by the SHPO – between September 2, 2022, and August 8, 2023. At Merthyr Crown Court on Friday, June 13, prosecutor Alycia Carpanini said Ward had previously pleaded guilty to four of the charges, entering not guilty pleas to eight others. She said the prosecution was satisfied with the defendant's guilty pleas and formally offered no evidence in relation to the other eight charges. Ross McQuillan-Johnson, Ward's barrister, was tied up in another hearing so Judge Richard Kember asked the defendant if he wanted to proceed or have the matter adjourned, to which Ward said: 'I want to save everyone's time and get on with it.' Judge Kember said Ward will be sentenced on the four offences he has admitted and adjourned the case so that a pre-sentence report can be carried out. He will return to court to be sentenced on July 17. His unconditional bail was extended, but the judge added a condition, to cooperate with the probation service in the preparation of a report.

Army cadet leader who drove to Grantham to rape schoolgirl is jailed
An army cadet leader who raped a 12-year-old girl after driving to the Grantham area to have sex with her has been jailed. David Thorne, of New Crescent in Cherry Willingham, pleaded guilty to eight sexual offences, including five rape charges on a child aged under-13 and three offences of assault by penetration on the same victim. All the offences happened on three dates in December 2023. The 22-year-old, was studying policing at a university in Hull. He previously admitted the sexual contact between himself, and the victim had taken place, but claimed the girl had told him she was 17. However, his claim was dismissed. The court heard Thorne met up with the schoolgirl on a number of occasions, driving from his home to pick her up from the Grantham area. Thorne wore his army cadet uniform during one of his visits to see the victim. Giving evidence in court, the girl insisted she told Thorne her real age and said it was Thorne who claimed to be 17. Judge Simon Hirst told Thorne he had "no hesitation" in accepting the victim's account of events. In an impact statement from the victim, which was read out in court, she said it made her "angry, upset and sad." Detective Constable Victoria Oakes, praised the victim for her bravery and courage. She said, "I am in awe of the victim involved in this case. They have been immense. The bravery and courage they have displayed over the last year has been truly incredible and I hope that this result offers some sense of closure. "Thorne's actions are reprehensible and completely unacceptable in our society. His victim was clearly underage, and he knew that." David Thorne was jailed for 14 years, and also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He will have to serve an extended period of 12 months on licence when he is released from custody. A restraining order will also prevent Thorne having any further contact with his victim.
