John Terry's Chelsea 'frustration' speaks volumes - and will worry Enzo Maresca

EXCLUSIVE: John Terry won the Premier League five times during his Chelsea career but believes the Blues are still a way from winning another title
John Terry has admitted Chelsea are 'a few years away' from competing for the Premier League title.
Chelsea legend Terry has also warned that his former club can only gain experience and attract the biggest players through winning major trophies. The Blues finished the season on a high after lifting the Europa Conference League trophy, getting a Champions League place and now also jet off to the Club World Cup in the United States.
Terry won trophies galore during his glittering career at Stamford Bridge during Roman Abramovich's reign when the likes of Didier Drogba and Eden Hazard turned them into champions. Former England captain Terry says he now feels frustrated that Chelsea's young squad are not closer to challenging the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for the biggest prizes.
Terry said: 'I get frustrated because I want Chelsea to be winning the biggest trophies. Are we close? I think we are still a few years away from competing for the Premier League again.
"We need to catch Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool to even have a chance of doing that.
'I think we need experience. I think it's through winning. If we're competing for a top striker, a top keeper, I know where I'd be going.
'Fans need to understand that to sign top players and improve your group then you have to attract the best players then you have to win and compete for the biggest trophies.
'That's the Champions League, the Premier League and we're not doing that at the minute. We probably have to say: 'we'll take the second best striker, the third best striker, whatever that looks like.' That's where we are.

'That's probably why we've gone down the younger route at the minute and we haven't got players of the calibre of Didier, Hazard and these guys wanting to come to Chelsea because we are the best and we are guaranteed to win a trophy.'
Terry says his first title remains the highlight of his glittering career. Terry led Chelsea to the Premier League crown in 2005 under Jose Mourinho which was their first championship in 50 years.
Terry said: 'I think the first one, the title in 04/05, the first Premier League, the first one at Stamford Bridge but also the first title in a very long time and we took that back to the Bridge.'

Man City ready to accept defeat weeks after transfer listing Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish's Manchester City future remains unclear as he and the club look for a resolution with loan and permanent exits on the table for the £100million man Manchester City are prepared to loan out Jack Grealish if no permanent home can be found for the out-of-favour playmaker. The ex-Aston Villa star is tipped to seek pastures new this summer after falling down the pecking order. Grealish cost City £100million back in 2021 and they had been looking to recoup around half of that fee. The 29-year-old has not been included in the squad that headed to the United States for the Club World Cup, furthering underlining his decline. ‌ Those at the Etihad have been looking to land £50m to part ways with Grealish, who is earning £300,000-a-week. However if no buyers come forward then those on the blue half of Manchester will consider a loan, reports the Guardian, where they may have to foot some of his salary. ‌ There has been reported interest from Premier League clubs and those abroad. Newcastle were linked as a possible destination whilst Antonio Conte is keen on taking Grealish to Napoli, who have just claimed the Italian title. Grealish only scored three times last year with the majority of his appearances coming off the bench. He's only scored 17 times across his four seasons in Manchester with the club set for wholesale changes. Guardiola gave a passionate response after leaving out Grealish for the Fulham game on the final day. He said he was the person who "fought for him to come here and the person who fought for him to stay here this season and the next season". The Catalan however acknowledged that Grealish, who has two years remaining on his contract, will not be happy about his lack of minutes. He said: 'It's not [only] Jack. There is not one player in my locker room, and I think all the locker rooms around the world, that is happy [when they] do not play. "When the team is winning and winning they have to figure out how everything happens – but they are not happy. They are here to play and, when they don't play, they are not satisfied. That is the normal position in all the clubs.' City have invested more than £100m already this summer as they undergo something of a rebuild - which may further hamper Grealish's game time. They've landed Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, Wolves left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri and the winger Rayan Cherki from Lyon.
