Cancer survivor wins the lottery for a remarkable fourth time
A Canadian man has claimed a lottery jackpot for the fourth time in his life. David Serkin's latest victory came on May 3 when he claimed $1 million in a May 3 drawing of the Lotto 6-49 Gold Ball draw in Alberta, according to a press release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. This follows on from the $1 million he won in November 2024 and the $500,000 he won in August of the same year. Both victories were in the Lotto 6-49 drawing. That brings his total winnings to $2.5 million in less than a year. His first win was a $250,000 jackpot in 2013. 'I know the odds are astronomical. I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.' The odds of winning the jackpot are roughly 1 in 33 million, the WCLC said. Serkin, a resident of Lethbridge, around 130 miles south of Calgary, said that he has been purchasing lottery tickets for over 40 years. 'You check your ticket, and if you win, you're happy. If you don't, you can always try again,' he said. He told the WCLC's website that he is a cancer survivor and is retired. 'I am just so grateful for all of it,' Serkin said. The Lethbridge man described his recent win, saying that he was out for coffee with his sons when he checked his tickets. When he realized he had won, 'They asked to see it and said, 'Not again!' Serkin said that the last time he won, he took his wife, who he says is still in disbelief over his lucky streak, on a trip to Maui. This time, the couple is headed to Newfoundland for a vacation. After his win in November, Serkin said that he was using some of his winnings to help out his friends.

Ahead, we put three summer dresses from Reformation to the test. Read on to see how we styled them, as well as to read our honest reviews. $318 at Reformation What I like about it: Picture this. It's summer 1997. I am doing a rousing performance of "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" by Shania Twain on my parents' back deck. I'm wearing my "Shania outfit" — a denim shift dress combined with cowboy boots and a hat from the thrift store. Life is good. This simple dress delivers far more than nostalgia. It's simple enough to be a staple, and the subtle eyelet detail at the bottom hem adds just enough interest without doing too much. And with removable straps, it doubles as a strapless number — versatile, right? It's like a 2-for-1, and I'm so here for it. How I'll style it: I'm a huge fan of frocks that can be dressed up or down, and this one does both effortlessly. I imagine slipping it on with a sleek clutch and delicate kitten heels for a more polished look. On the other hand, it would be cute paired with some Mary Jane flats and a small shoulder bag when I'm in the mood for a relaxed-yet-stylish vibe. Room for improvement: I love that this dress gives the option to go strapless, but personally, I'd prefer thicker straps over the removable ones. Also, if you're on the shorter side, I'd make sure the length works for you, as it might be a little long. Overall rating: 4/5 — Melina Brum, Shopping Editor $398 at Reformation What I like about it: If you're in the market for a va-va-voom dress, Reformation's Balia Linen Dress is it. On a recent night out, I shared the above photo in a group chat, and the girls couldn't get enough of the linen midi dress. The comments (from some very supportive friends) included: "Omg. That is stunning," "This dress is insane on you," and "Please, can I borrow it?" Reformation's Balia Linen Dress gives waist. It gives bust. It snatches and it conceals. I've already worn it on cheeky nights out and now that the weather has warmed up, my colleagues are sure to see me wear it to the office. I'm obsessed and would get it in every colour if I could. How I'll style it: I am a ballet flat girl more often than not (catch me walking everywhere), so realistically, that's what I will be styling the Balia Linen Dress with (the heels you see above came off about two seconds after this photo was taken). If you are stronger than I am, the linen midi would look so chic with a pair of strappy-heeled sandals, but I think a shoe like these Suzanne Ballet Flats fit the bill nicely. Room for improvement: My only gripe with Reformation dresses, the Balia Linen Dress included, is that so few of them have adjustable straps. MasterChef fans left stunned after 'unwatchable' moment: 'Hideous'
MasterChef Australia is one of the most beloved shows in the country thanks to its wholesome vibes, which greatly differs from much of the rest of the Australian reality TV landscape. However, it seems as though its overseas counterparts are not similar at all. One MasterChef viewer took to Reddit to start a conversation over the difference between the Australian version and the Canadian version of the show. They wrote, "I [haven't] watched any episode of Masterchef Canada. A random video just came to my feed. The judges [seem much too rough] with the contestants." In the video, one judge yells at a contestant, "Is this a joke? This is MasterChef Canada, and you give me this?" The same judge asks another person what their dish is called, and they respond, "I call these 'I really wanna stay fish cakes,' man." And the judge responds, "These look like 'I'll watch the show from my couch fish cakes,'" leaving the contestant with a stunned look on their face. Elsewhere, the judges called out "disastrous dishes", leading one contestant to say, "My heart just cramps up, my heart sinks, I don't know what to think." MasterChef Australia contestants shared their shock at the clip, with one person writing, "That is why I only watch Australia. Nice judges and nice contestants. No shouting and no chest thumping." "Other than [Australian version], most of the Masterchef judges are strict I would say," another said. A third agreed, saying, "Yeah, most of the other versions overdramatise the judging, and encourage the judges to be total d**ks." The person then shared examples: "MasterChef US: 'Holy s**t, this is horrible, and your dead mother would be ashamed at the way you've butchered her recipe.' Tosses plate across the room. "MasterChef AU: 'Well, you're asparagus is pretty on point, and I liked the use of saffron, but you've got to be more careful about your seasoning and you're cooking times, this definitely wasn't your best.' Gives crying contestant a hug." They added, "It's why I only watch the Australian version anymore." "The US version is just as hideous if not worse," someone else said. "Honestly unwatchable. Again, the Australians have made this programme the best version possible." "Yeah, I'm in Canada and I love that Mr. Husband generously gives us the Australian feed because it's so wholesome," another added. "The Canadian version is so mean. The judges are mean and they push the contestants to fight against each other. There's a lot of bullying." "The judges on Masterchef AU are genuinely some of the kindest," one person said. "Even when a dish doesn't turn out well, they still manage to give feedback in such a polite and empathetic way. And it's not just the current set of judges, even in the earlier seasons, they always maintained that warmth and encouragement. From this clip, the judges come across so blunt and rude. I get that the presentation might be lacking in some dishes, but the way the criticism is delivered its just feels unnecessarily harsh. And honestly, it makes the whole viewing experience feel tense rather than enjoyable. I don't think I will ever enjoy watching this Masterchef Canada, it just takes the joy out of it." "If you think of it in terms of how Gordon Ramsay went from Hell's Kitchen directly to Masterchef, you can kinda see how they carried over the same formula of drama being more important than anything else. North American Masterchef is the audience laughing AT the contestants, that's the whole point. They treat it like some kind of zoo and it has zero substance and is horrible to watch." Others said they would want to watch the Canadian version "at all" and that the Canadian version is simply copying the American version which "drums up the nastiness and drama".
