Victoria's Secret says it will postpone earnings report after recent security breach
Victoria's Secret is postponing the release of its quarterly earnings following a security breach that disrupted the popular lingerie brand's corporate operations and led it to take down its US shopping site for several days last week. In a Tuesday update, Victoria's Secret said it first detected a 'security incident involving its information technology systems' on May 24 — and immediately turned to response protocols in effects 'to contain and eradicate unauthorized network access,' which included engaging with third-party experts. The Ohio-based retailer added that it temporarily shut down corporate systems and its retail website on May 26 'as a precaution.' The Victoria's Secret website in the US stayed dark for several days after, sparking prolonged frustration among shoppers. It wasn't back online until late Thursday. While not directly confirmed by Victoria's Secret, the incident bore hallmarks of a cyberattack involving ransomware. Analysts note that more and more retailers are facing these kinds of attacks today — and pointed to the reach and length of disruptions impacting Victoria's Secret's operations. Beyond its website, some in-store services at Victoria's Secret namesake and Pink-branded locations were also shut down due to breach. But on Tuesday, the company said most of those functions had since been restored. Victoria's Secret also said Tuesday that it's still working to fully restore access to its corporate systems, which is why it's delaying its first-quarter earnings — noting that the process has 'prevented employees from accessing certain systems and information' needed to finalize and release the financial report. Still, the company shared some preliminary results. For its first quarter of 2025, which ended May 3, Victoria's Secret now expects to report $1.35 billion in net sales and an adjusted operating income of $32 million, exceeding previously-issued guidance. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect sales of about $1.33 billion, on average. Victoria's Secret did not immediately share a new date for the release of its first quarter earnings. Victoria's Secret maintained that last month's breach did not impact its first quarter results, as the period ended before the breach caused disruptions. But the company said it would continue to 'assess the full scope' of the incident, including expenses that might impact future finances. The 'security incident' impacting Victoria's Secret arrives as more and more companies report breaches that disrupt operations and/or expose customer data, particularly among retailers. Several British retailers — Marks & Spencer, Harrods and Co-op — have all shared that they've been targeted by cyberattacks over recent weeks, for example. The cyberattack hitting M&S stopped it from processing online orders and left store shelves empty, with the company estimating that this will cost it 300 million pounds ($400 million). And last month, Adidas announced that it had recently become aware of an 'unauthorized external party' obtaining some consumer data — mostly consisting of contact information — through a third-party customer service provider. Following any cybersecurity incident impacting a consumer-facing brand, experts warn that it's important for shoppers to be alert. Fraudsters might take advantage of the news to promise fake promotions through phishing emails, for example, or use sensitive information that may have been compromised.

HDB Financial Services IPO: Sebi gives nod for HDFC Bank unit's Rs 12,500 crore fundraise
HDFC Bank subsidiary HDB Financial Services Ltd has received regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for its much-anticipated Rs 12,500 crore initial public offering (IPO). The regulator also approved the IPOs of five other companies. The six IPOs together are slated to raise over Rs 20,000 crore. HDB Financial had earlier filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP), aiming to raise Rs 2,500 crore through a fresh issue and Rs 10,000 crore via offer for sale (OFS) by parent company HDFC Bank. This makes it one of the largest IPOs by a non-banking entity in the Indian capital market. HDFC Bank holds 94.36 per cent stake in HDB Financial Services, a non-banking financial company (NBFC). The company proposes to utilise the proceeds from the fresh issue to strengthen its Tier-I capital base. This will support future capital needs, including additional lending, to support business growth. Incorporated in 2007, HDB Financial Services provides secured and unsecured loans and has more than 1,680 branches across India. It closed the June quarter with a net worth of about Rs 13,300 crore. The decision to list HDB Financial Services follows the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s mandate in October 2022, requiring NBFCs in the upper layer to list on the stock exchanges. Sebi nod to 5 more IPOs Apart from HDB Financial, five more companies have received Sebi's go ahead to raise funds through IPOs. These include Vikram Solar, A-One Steels India, Shanti Gold International, Dorf-Ketal Chemicals, and Shreeji Shipping Global Ltd. These six firms, which filed their preliminary IPO papers with the markets regulator between October 2024 and January 25, 2025, obtained their observations during May 27-30, the Sebi update showed. Vikram Solar's IPO is a mix of fresh issue of shares up to Rs 1,500 crore and an OFS of up to 17.45 million shares by promoter and promoter group selling shareholders. Mumbai-based Dorf-Ketal Chemicals India has proposed to raise Rs 5,000 crore via IPO, which will be a combination of fresh issue of shares worth Rs 1,500 crore, and an OFS of Rs 3,500 crore worth shares by Menon Family Holdings, the promoter. It had filed draft red herring prospectus for its IPO on January 23 this year.

SNB, Entally among 4 sites to get KMC EV charging stns
1 2 3 Kolkata: In a bid to curb air pollution by promoting electric vehicles , Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to set up four more EV charging stations. Currently, the KMC electrical department runs three such charging stations. According to the member, mayor-in-council overseeing KMC electrical department, Sandip Bakshi, land has been identified in Beleghata, Ultadanga (off EM Bypass), Entally, and S N Banerjee Road for setting up the EV charging stations. It has already started setting up the charging station near Esplanade. It will have two 30 kW electric charging points only for four-wheelers. The proposed unit is being constructed at the eastern flank of KMC headquarters, at Hogg Street and S N Banerjee Road crossing. It will be operational soon. The lighting department of KMC has been supervising the work, and once operational, these will be handed over to the parking department. A Bangalore-based firm is setting up the EV charging station. It has installed several charging points for the NKDA in the past. "Although it depends on car battery size, a completely drained battery of an e-car can get fully charged here in just 30 minutes due to its fast-charging capacity," said an expert working with the project. KMC has roped in a Kolkata-based firm for setting up 12 EV charging stations across the city. According to the agreement, the civic body will provide space for setting up such charging stations and, in lieu, will earn a part of the revenue to be generated after these EV charging stations start functioning. The civic body is in the process of identifying land near its parking lots that will be handed over to the firm for setting up the charging stations. According to modalities being worked out before inking a pact, while the firm may be allowed to levy Rs 12-15 (maximum) on car owners for one kilowatt unit of charging an EV, KMC will earn Rs 1.2 from the deal. An official said besides looking for land in locations identified for handing over to the firm, the civic body was also in search of plots in prime locations so that motorists find it convenient to charge their vehicles. KMC also recently made it mandatory for realty developers taking up construction of high-rises to keep 50% of car parking space reserved for EV charging points.
