Wiltshire swim school raises money for children's charity
A children's swim school has raised money for sick children to help finish treatment in a "home-from-home" facility.
Puddle Ducks Bristol and Bath recently celebrated a fundraising accomplishment for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity.
The swimming school for babies, pre-schoolers, and children across Bath, Wiltshire, Somerset, and South Gloucestershire has been an ongoing supporter of the campaign for the past 10 years.

This year, the school raised £575, bringing their total contribution over the past decade to more than £7,000.
The Bristol Children's Hospital cares for 140,000 patients annually across the South West and South Wales including babies, children, and young adults with highly complex medical needs.
The hospital's staff provides round-the-clock care supported by funds from The Grand Appeal.
The charity provides a wide array of services, including family accommodation, medical research, equipment, and all sorts of therapies such as play, art, and music.
It also invests in art enhancements and new facilities, such as the Patient Hotel, which has just received planning permission to be built.
The latter is a brand-new, innovative project that allows ailing children to complete their treatment at a homely setting rather than a hospital ward, while staying with their families.
Those who wish to contribute to Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal can make their donations online at www.justgiving.com/page/puddleducks.
Commenting on this year's fundraiser, Sarah Austin, owner of Puddle Ducks Bristol and Bath, said: "This year we donated Easter eggs and crafts for children spending time in hospital over the Easter holidays.
"Puddle the Duck also visited the wards, putting a smile on the children's faces.
"It's truly an honour to be involved in such a wonderful campaign."
As well as the usual fundraising activities, Austin's swimming school went the extra mile to make the hospital's young patients' Easter a bit more special.

They donated Easter eggs and crafts, and Puddle the Duck paid a visit to the wards for some fun and cheer.
The generosity shown by the swim school over the past decade has underscored the impact local organisations can have on health services and communities.
Their contribution aids the Bristol Children's Hospital in enhancing the lives of critically ill children and their families, providing services and supportive environments like the forthcoming Patient Hotel.

And everyone is talking about going south, going south, and it's like, what about over here?" Cannon said she has to drive at least 30 minutes to get to a pool. "That's gas money. If we want to go somewhere three times a week – that's 30, 40 minutes there, and back. That's a long way," she said. "That's a long way to go." New vaccine offers hope in fight against disease that threatens half of world's population: 'Ensuring a sufficient vaccine supply is critical'
India's high burden of dengue cases may soon see some relief thanks to a new vaccine from Japanese company Takeda, The Times of India reported. Dengue fever is transmitted through mosquito bites that cause flu-like symptoms such as a high fever, rash, vomiting, and joint, bone, or muscle pain, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Those symptoms can also become more severe during reinfection. Thankfully, the QDENGA® dengue vaccine will be available in India by 2026. However, it's not the first-ever dengue fever vaccine to reach the market. The vaccine Dengvaxia® was approved in 2019 by the FDA but is no longer available in the United States, even in endemic areas like Puerto Rico. That same vaccine wasn't useful for those without a past dengue infection, either. In contrast, Qdenga will have better availability to prevent outbreaks. "Our vaccine has been approved in 40 countries, and we anticipate the vaccine will be licensed in India in 2026," Derek Wallace, Takeda's global vaccine business unit president, told The Times of India. "Given that dengue threatens half the world's population, ensuring a sufficient vaccine supply is critical," Wallace said. This vaccine isn't the only way to fight this disease, as a warming climate — an issue directly caused by human behavior — has already fostered an environment for the disease to thrive. According to the World Health Organization, rising atmospheric heat and humidity have increased outbreak numbers in recent years. Mosquitos are increasingly spreading the disease as the overheating planet makes it easier for them to survive and reproduce more. Massive storms and flooding can produce lots of standing water where one mosquito can lay as many as 50 to 200 eggs at one time. Poor sanitation, such as "garbage lasagnas," can give off heat or maintain standing water, providing breeding grounds for them to thrive. The Stanford Report discusses the link between mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria and trash in Kenya. However, reducing landfill material and heat-trapping carbon exhaust is within human reach to solve through recycling, home/vehicle electrification, and solar conversion. Working toward a cooler and cleaner planet also helps maintain safe vaccine storage. Disasters can shut down facilities that keep vaccines cool and make access hard for those in remote areas. Therefore, communities, stakeholders, and vaccine producers working together are essential to world health. Do you worry about the quality of the air inside your home?
