Mets' David Peterson tosses first career shutout in 5-0 win over Nationals

On June 11, 2025, David Peterson was fabulous at Citi Field tonight as the Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-0. He threw a complete game shutout, his first ever, and the Mets are now 5 in a row.
Big hits from his teammates and his pitching made this a great night for Mets fans.

David Peterson, Mets pitcher, is just 29 years old, and had an amazing performance throwing a six-hit shutout against the Nationals. He struck out 6 batters and didn't walk anybody needing 106 pitches to complete all 9 innings against the Nationals. He started strong retiring the first 7 batters. He got out in the seventh, striking out two batters and getting the last batter out on a groundball out.
In the eighth, a great throw by Tyrone Taylor kept the shutout alive. Peterson only needed nine pitches in the ninth to wrap up the win. This was the first Mets shutout by a lefty since 2019. His ERA is now 2.49, one of the best in the league. Peterson said he always dreamed of a game like this, thanking his manager for letting him finish and the fans for cheering loudly.

Brandon Nimmo hit two home runs, one in the fifth inning off Jake Irvin and another in the seventh off Jackson Rutledge, making the score 5-0.
Juan Soto also hit a two-run homer in the third, his 13th this year. Pete Alonso started the scoring with an RBI double in the first. Nimmo's been hot lately, hitting .310 with four homers in his last 15 games. He loves the warm weather at Citi Field, which helps him hit better. Soto's power has been key too, with five homers in 11 games.
The Nationals couldn't keep up, losing their fourth straight game. The Mets, now 44-24, have the best record in baseball. They'll try to sweep the series on Thursday with Kodai Senga pitching. This game showed how strong the Mets are with great pitching and hitting working together.
